Use the leaves of castor bean (Ricinus communis) that have nine angles, which are considered superior. Calcined alum (Calculated Alum) is sifted into powder, spread on a paper strip, and inserted into the vagina for support.
Powder Application Method
First, wash with a decoction of bamboo root (Phyllostachys heterocycla var. pubescens). Then, apply dry powder of Chinese gall (Galla Chinensis) and alum (Alumen) directly to the affected area; immediate efficacy is expected.
Topical Application Method
First, soften the area by washing with warm saline solution. Then, fumigate with smoke from burning Trogopterus Dung (Lingzhi), followed by applying mashed castor bean seeds (Semen Ricini) into the vagina. If the medicine enters internally, wash it out immediately.
[Coldness of the Yin]
[General Theory] Coldness of the woman's yin is caused by labor-induced injury to the uterus (Zi Zang), allowing wind-cold pathogens to invade.
[Xue Ji] The aforementioned symptoms belong to damp-heat within the Liver Meridian, compounded by external invasion of wind-cold. If there is difficult or painful urination, or distending pain in the lower abdomen, use Long Dan Xie Gan Tang (Gentian Decoction to Drain the Liver). If there is internal heat, alternating chills and fever, or irregular menstruation, use Jia Wei Xiao Yao San (Modified Free and Easy Wanderer Powder). If there are chills and fever, physical fatigue, poor appetite, and lack of desire to eat, use Jia Wei Si Jun Zi Tang (Modified Four Gentlemen Decoction). If there is fever due to depression and anger, insomnia, and reluctance to eat, use Jia Wei Gui Pi Tang (Modified Restore the Spleen Decoction).
A woman suffered from coldness in the vagina, yellow and difficult urination, internal heat, alternating chills and fever, bitter taste in the mouth, and flank distension. This was due to damp-heat in the Liver Meridian. She was treated with Long Dan Tang (Gentian Decoction) to drain and eliminate damp-heat, followed by Jia Wei Xiao Yao San (Modified Free and Easy Wanderer Powder) to regulate and tonify Qi and Blood, resulting in recovery. Another woman with similar symptoms additionally presented with alternating chills and fever, vomiting, and swelling and pain in both thighs. She was first given one dose of Xiao Chai Hu Tang (Minor Bupleurum Decoction) with Gardenia (Shan Zhi), which instantly stopped the chills, fever, and vomiting. Subsequently, one dose of Long Dan Xie Gan Tang (Gentian Decoction to Drain the Liver) eliminated the swelling and pain instantly. A third woman suffered from coldness in the vagina, clear urine, coldness in the abdomen, poor appetite, and loose stools. This indicated deficiency-cold of the Lower Yuan. She was treated with Ba Wei Wan (Eight-Ingredient Pill) for over a month; her diet gradually improved, stools became formed, and after another month, all symptoms resolved.
Wujiapi Infused Wine Formula
(From *Sheng Hui Fang*) Treats hysterocele masses and coldness of the yin in women.
Wujiapi (Cortex Acanthopanacis), Shu Dihuang (Prepared Rehmanniae Radix), Danshen (Salviae Miltiorrhizae Radix et Rhizoma), Duzhong (Cortex Eucommiae, removed coarse bark, stir-fried until slightly yellow), Chuangzi (Semen Cnidii), Jiang (Dried Ginger, each 3 liang); Digupi (Cortex Lycii Radicis, 2 liang); Tianmendong (Radix Asparagi, 1 liang); Zhongru (Stalactitum, 4 liang).
Finely chop the above ingredients, place them in a raw silk bag, and soak in 1 dou 5 sheng of wine for two nights. Warm and drink one large cup per dose, taken on an empty stomach and before evening meals. An alternative formula uses Gouqi Zi (Fructus Lycii) instead of Digupi.
Formula for Treating Coldness of the Yin in Women (From *Da Quan Liang Fang*)
Yuanzhi (Radix Polygalae), Jiang (Dried Ginger, used raw), Lianhua (Lotus Flower, each half liang); Chuangzi (Semen Cnidii), Wweizi (Fructus Schisandrae, each 1 liang).
Pulverize the above ingredients. For each application, mix with rabbit feces to smear the vulva, wrap one qian of the powder in cotton, and insert it into the vagina. Heat indicates efficacy.
Another Formula
Chuangzi (Semen Cnidii, 3 fen), Wuzhuyu (Fructus Evodiae), Tingli (Semen Lepidii/Descurainiae, each half liang); Meishi (Concha Ostreae, one piece).
Pulverize the above ingredients. Wrap in cotton to the size of a jujube, insert into the vagina, until warmth is felt in the abdomen.
Another Formula
Chuangzi (Semen Cnidii, 1 liang), Wuzhuyu (Fructus Evodiae, 1.5 liang, used raw).
Pulverize the above ingredients. Mix with refined honey to form pills the size of a sour jujube. Wrap in cotton and insert into the vagina, until foul matter is discharged. (Another version adds Moschus/Shexiang.)
Warm-Middle Sit Medicine
Use pulverized Semen Cnidii (Chuangzi) mixed with a small amount of Bai Fen (White Powder, likely lead carbonate or rice starch) to form pills the size of a jujube. Wrap in cotton and insert into the vagina; natural warmth will ensue, indicating efficacy.
Ba Wei Wan (Eight-Ingredient Pill) Treats blood deficiency failing to nourish the zang-fu organs, withered and dry fluids, and wind-cold invading the uterus, leading to coldness of the yin. (See General Diseases, Deficiency Labor section for the formula.)
My Commentary: This pill indeed has miraculous effects for deficiencies of the Liver, Spleen, and Kidney.
Formulas for the antepartum and postpartum periods are provided in their respective sections.
[Bleeding and Pain upon Intercourse] [Xue Ji] A woman experienced bleeding and pain during every intercourse. This was due to Liver Fire disturbing the Spleen, causing failure to control the blood. She was cured using Bu Zhong Yi Qi Tang (Tonify the Middle and Augment the Qi Decoction) and Ji Sheng Gui Pi Tang (Sage’s Preserve Restore the Spleen Decoction). If excessive bleeding occurs with other symptoms, simply use the aforementioned medicines to regulate and tonify the Liver and Spleen.
*Qian Jin Fang* Formula for treating women who bleed upon intercourse.
Guixin (Cinnamomi Cortex), Fulonggan (Plasma Ferri, each 2 fen). Pulverize. Take one fang cun bi (square-inch spoonful) with wine to stop bleeding.
Another Formula
Huanglian (Rhizoma Coptidis, 6 fen), Niuxi (Radix Achyranthis Bidentatae), Gancao (Radix Glycyrrhizae, each 4 fen).
Finely chop the above three herbs. Boil in 4 sheng of water to reduce to 2 sheng. Use the decoction to wash the affected area, 3-4 times daily, until healed.
*Bu Yi*: Wrap cooked Ai Ye (Folium Artemisiae Argyi) tightly into a ball, then wrap in silk and insert into the vagina.
[Injury from Foreign Objects during Intercourse]
[Xue Ji] Treating a woman who bled and had pain during intercourse, accompanied by fever, thirst, and nausea. The use of cold-natured medicines exacerbated these symptoms, causing frequent vomiting, poor appetite, and emaciation. I stated: The syndrome belongs to Liver Fire, further injured by the medicinal drugs damaging the Spleen. First, use Liu Jun Zi Tang (Six Gentlemen Decoction) with Shan Zhi (Fructus Gardeniae) and Chai Hu (Radix Bupleuri). Once the Spleen and Stomach function recovered, all symptoms resolved. Then, use Jia Wei Xiao Yao San (Modified Free and Easy Wanderer Powder) to restore physical constitution and Qi.
A woman suffered from vulvar swelling, prolapse, stifling pain, discharge, chest and abdominal discomfort, frequent urination, internal heat, afternoon tidal fever, bitter taste, and tinnitus. This was a Liver-Spleen Fire syndrome. She was treated with Xiao Chai Hu Tang (Minor Bupleurum Decoction) plus Che Qian Zi (Semen Plantaginis), Dan Cao (Radix Scutellariae), Fu Ling (Poria), Bai Zhu (Rhizoma Atractylodis Macrocephalae), and Sheng Ma (Rhizoma Cimicifugae). After two doses, she improved slightly. Then, Jia Wei Xiao Yao San (Modified Free and Easy Wanderer Powder) with Sheng Ma (Rhizoma Cimicifugae) was used for several doses, leading to gradual recovery. Finally, Jia Wei Gui Pi Tang (Modified Restore the Spleen Decoction) with Sheng Ma (Rhizoma Cimicifugae) and Chai Hu (Radix Bupleuri), along with Bu Zhong Yi Qi Tang (Tonify the Middle and Augment the Qi Decoction) with Shan Zhi (Fructus Gardeniae), were used for several doses, resulting in instant recovery. Maintenance with Jia Wei Xiao Yao San (Modified Free and Easy Wanderer Powder) and Jia Wei Gui Pi Tang (Modified Restore the Spleen Decoction) led to complete cure.
A woman suffered from hot pain from the aforementioned syndrome. The use of cold-natured detoxifying medicines caused loss of appetite, frequent nausea, and heavy sensation/prolapse in the lower abdomen. I reasoned this was further damage to the Spleen and Stomach with sinking of Yuan Qi. First, use Bu Zhong Yi Qi Tang (Tonify the Middle and Augment the Qi Decoction) with Pao Jiang (Prepared Ginger) for two doses, resolving the heaviness instantly. Then, add Fu Ling (Poria) and Ban Xia (Rhizoma Pinelliae) for over twenty doses to achieve cure. Finally, Gui Pi Tang (Restore the Spleen Decoction) with slight additions of Chai Hu (Radix Bupleuri) and Sheng Ma (Rhizoma Cimicifugae), combined with Liu Wei Di Huang Wan (Six-Ingredient Pill with Rehmannia), restored health.
*Ji Yan Fang* Formula for treating women whose yang dao is violated or injured by foreign objects during intercourse, causing continuous dripping blood.
Apply Fu Di Mo (Kettle Bottom Soot) and broken gourd pieces to the wound and insert into the vagina.
Another formula for treating young girls injured during intercourse, with continuous bleeding.
Burn hair and green cloth powder, and apply as a topical powder.
Another Formula: Apply blood from a cut chicken comb.
*Bu Yi*: Sprinkle Chi Shi Zhi (Halloysitum Rubrum) powder. Another formula suggests using Wu Bei Zi (Galla Chinensis) powder, which is also effective.
[Headache Injured by Husband]
[Xue Ji] Treatment should primarily focus on Bu Zhong Yi Qi Tang (Tonify the Middle and Augment the Qi Decoction) and Liu Wei Di Huang Wan (Six-Ingredient Pill with Rehmannia) to nourish the source of transformation.
*Ji Yan Fang* Formula for treating women injured by intercourse, presenting with heavy limbs and headache upon breathing.
Sheng Di Huang (Radix Rehmanniae Recens, 8 liang), Shaoyao (Radix Paeoniae Alba/Lactiflorae, 5 liang), Xiang Chi (Fermented Soybean, 1 sheng), Cong Bai (Scallion White, 1 jin), Sheng Jiang (Fresh Ginger, 4 liang), Gancao (Radix Glycyrrhizae, 2 liang).
Boil the above six herbs in 7 sheng of water to obtain 2.5 sheng. Divide into three doses. Do not re-boil. Avoid sexual intercourse.
*Qian Jin Yi* Sangbaipi Tang (Mulberry Bark Decoction) for treating various women injured by intercourse, suffering from severe headache, nausea, and oppression.
Sangbaipi (Cortex Mori Radicis, half liang), Jiang (Dried Ginger, 1 unit), Guixin (Cinnamomi Cortex, 5 cun), Da Zao (Fructus Jujubae, 20 pieces).
Chop the above four herbs. Boil in 1 dou of wine for three or four boils. Strain and take warm in divided doses. Dress appropriately to avoid sweating.
*Bu Yi*: Ju Fang Lai Fu Dan (Bureau Prescription Reviving Pill) treats injuries from intercourse between women and men, causing heavy limbs, headache, and dizziness. Swallow 50 pills with rice water.
