Treats apoplexy (stroke), where the patient is unconscious, with deviation of the mouth and eyes, hemiplegia, phlegm-rattling in the throat, and obstruction by phlegm-qi rising upward. Regardless of whether it is caused by external contraction of wind-cold or internal injury from emotional excesses (anger and joy), or if the six pulses are deep and hidden, or feel floating and vigorous under the fingers, this formula is suitable for use. It also treats phlegm syncope, fluid syncope, and dizziness due to qi deficiency, all with miraculous effects.
Raw Arisaema Rhizome (Sheng Nanting, 1 liang) Raw Aconitum Lateralis Radix Preparata (Sheng Wutou, peeled and tipped removed) Raw Aconitum Carmandii Radix Preparata (Sheng Fuzi, each 0.5 liang, peeled) Costus Root (Muxiang, 1 fen)
Crush the above herbs into coarse powder. Take 0.5 liang per dose. Add two large bowls of water and ten slices of fresh ginger, decoct until one-sixth remains, strain, and take warm. If the patient has locked jaws and is unconscious, use a small amount of Asarum Europaeum Radix et Rhizoma (Beixixin) and Gleditsiae Sinensis Fructus Spina (Zaojiao) ground into fine powder. Alternatively, use only Pinelliae Rhizoma Preparatum (Banxia) ground into fine powder, insert a small amount into the nose via a reed tube; wait for sneezing, when the patient regains slight consciousness, then administer the medicine. For robust individuals, use only 5 qian of Arisaema Rhizome (Nanting) and 1 qian of Costus Root (Muxiang), add fourteen slices of fresh ginger, decoct and divide into two doses to drink; this is named Xingxiang Yin (Star and Wood Fragrance Decoction).
Treats accumulation of phlegm-fluids in the chest, causing blockage at Zhongwan (CV12), vomiting of phlegm-saliva, dizziness, epigastric discomfort and irritability, palpitations, and hiccups; as well as invasion by phlegm-qi staying in the joints, causing twitching of hands and feet, deviation of the mouth and eyes, hemiplegia, immediate vomiting after eating, headache and fever, resembling Taiyang disease (cold damage).

Treats left-side paralysis and right-side immobility, and chronic wind-dampness unresponsive to other medicines. Regular use regulates qi, promotes appetite, and relaxes the middle jiao. (Discussed in detail in *Su Shen Liang Fang*).

Lady Miao, aged sixty-five or sixty-six, suddenly suffered apoplexy, became unconscious, had no sweat but had phlegm. Her family had already prepared funeral arrangements, and most physicians deemed her incurable. I was summoned to examine her; the six pulses were floating and slow, and the spleen pulse overflowed beyond the Guan position, indicating a true wind pulse. First, I administered six doses of Renshen Suye Yin (Ginseng and Perilla Decoction) to first regulate qi and descend phlegm, followed by Muxiang Zhusan (Costus Decoction Powder), and she recovered. She enjoyed another ten years of life.
