论曰∶呕吐而利者,名霍乱也。原疾之由,皆由肠胃虚冷,饮食过度,触冒风冷,使阴
阳不和,清浊相干,致令挥霍变乱也。或先心痛而吐者;或先腹痛而利者;或吐利俱作者;

[Composition]
Renshen (Ginseng Radix), Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma) (each 5 liang), Houpo (Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex, processed by stir-frying), Xixin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma) (each 4 liang), Shengjiang (Zingiberis Recens Rhizoma) (8 liang, powdered), Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium) (3 liang), Guixin (Cinnamomi Ramulus) (2 liang).
[Preparation and Administration]
Grind the above herbs into a fine powder. Mix with refined honey to form pills the size of paulownia seeds. Administer orally with water, starting with 10 pills and gradually increasing to 20 pills. It may also be taken alternately with Banxia Wan (Pinellia Pill). Avoid consuming peaches, plums, sparrow meat, raw green onions, and raw vegetables. Wu Sheng holds the same view.
[Pathogenesis Discussion]
It is stated: Vomiting accompanied by diarrhea is termed Huoluan (Cholera-like disease). The origin of this disease lies in deficiency-cold of the intestines and stomach, excessive food intake, or exposure to wind-cold, causing disharmony between Yin and Yang and interference between clear and turbid qi, resulting in sudden turmoil. Some present with heart pain followed by vomiting; some with abdominal pain followed by diarrhea; some with simultaneous vomiting and diarrhea; some with headache, high fever, and floating-hong pulse; some with sudden collapse of Yang qi, cold extremities, and faint or imperceptible pulse. Treatment should distinguish between Yin and Yang, examine deficiency and excess, differentiate heat and cold, and observe the pulse. Heat patterns are treated with cooling agents; cold patterns are treated with warming agents, aiming for balance. "Baiwen" states: For Huoluan with vomiting and diarrhea, if heat predominates with thirst, use Wuling San (Five-Ingredient Powder with Poria); if cold predominates without desire for water, use Lizhong Wan (Regulate the Middle Pill). After vomiting and diarrhea cease, if sweating and cold limbs persist, limb rigidity does not resolve, and the pulse is faint and nearly absent, use Tongmai Sini Jia Zhuhidan Tang (Decoction to Restore the Pulse with Porcine Bile). For summerheat-induced Huoluan presenting with severe irritability and thirst, cold extremities, cold sweat, and calf cramps, use Xiangru San (Elsholtzia Powder) decocted strongly and taken cold for immediate effect. Generally, Huoluan with floating-hong pulses is easy to treat. Those with faint-slow pulses, especially with shortness of breath, are difficult to treat.
[Jiajian Lizhong Wan Formula]
Mainly for Huoluan, as a temporary emergency formula. It can also treat men. (From "Qianjin Yifang")
Renshen (Ginseng Radix), Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma), Ganjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) (each 1 liang).
[Preparation and Administration]
Grind the above herbs into a fine powder. Form pills using refined honey. Each liang of powder makes five pills. Take one pill with warm water, ten times daily.
If vomiting is profuse and diarrhea is scant, take three Zhi Shi (Immature Bitter Orange Fructus), stir-fry until hot, remove the pith, cut into four pieces. Decoct in 3 sheng of water until reduced to 1 sheng, and administer with one pill.
If vomiting is scant and diarrhea is profuse, add 1 liang of Ganjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma).
If vomiting and diarrhea occur with dry heaving, take 0.5 liang of Banxia (Pinelliae Tuber), soak and wash to remove slipperiness, decoct in 2 sheng of water until reduced to 1 sheng, and administer with one pill.
If body pain is unbearable, decoct three Jujubae Fructus (Jujube Fruit) in 3 sheng of water until reduced to 1 sheng, and administer with one pill.
If severe vomiting and diarrhea lead to muscle cramps, wash the abdomen and kidney area with Jiuzhi (Allii Fistulosi Juice) from the chest down to the ankle, massaging along the meridian direction without reversing, which will stop the symptoms.
If the body is cold with slight sweating and abdominal coldness, take one Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata), process by roasting and removing the skin, cut into four pieces, decoct in 2 sheng of water until reduced to 1 sheng, and administer with one pill.
If vomiting and diarrhea have completely ceased but the pulse is absent and the body is extremely cold, various tonic decoctions may be administered.
