Wind-dizziness in women is caused by deficiency of the constitution leading to wind-pathogen invasion, where wind enters the brain. The essence of all zang-fu organs flows upward into the eyes; their qi and blood, along with the meridians, ascend and connect to the brain. The meridians lead to the eye-system (the connection between the eyeball and the brain); if the eye-system becomes tense, it causes dizziness. If the dizziness persists and the wind-pathogen is severe, it may transform into Dian-ji (epilepsy or manic psychosis).
To treat head-wind dizziness due to deficiency, accompanied by incessant salivation. This medicine regulates the ascending and descending of Yin and Yang, supplements and connects the True Qi, and does not merely stop dizziness.
Heiqian (Black Lead), Shuiyin (Mercury), Liuhuang (Sulfur, ground), Zhusha (Cinnabar, each 1 liang, ground)
Take one Jian ware bowl, melt Heiqian over fire until liquid, then add Shuiyin, stir with a willow stick until solidified/stopped, remove from heat and let rest for a while, then add the other two ingredients and stir until solidified.
After cooling, remove and grind into powder. Form pills using soft glutinous rice paste, sized like mung beans. Take 30 pills per dose, swallowed with Jujube Decoction, on an empty stomach or before meals, twice daily.
To treat Tou-yun (dizziness) caused by Gan-Jue (Liver Jue syndrome), clearing the head and eyes. (From *Ben Shi Fang*)
Gouteng (Uncariae Ramulus cum Uncis), Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium), Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma), Maimendong (Ophiopogonis Radix, heart removed), Fuling (Poria), Fushen (Poria with Hostwood), Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma, radix removed), Ganjuhua (Chrysanthemi Flos), Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix, each half liang), Gancao (Licorice Root, 1 fen), Shigao (Gypsum Fibrosum, 1 liang)
Cut the herbs into small pieces. Take 4 qian per dose. Add 1.5 sheng of water and 7 slices of Shengjiang (Fresh Ginger), decoct until reduced to 0.8 sheng, strain, and take hot. (*Su Wen* states: Headache and Dian-ji are characterized by deficiency below and excess above, involving the Foot-Shaoyin Kidney Meridian and Foot-Taiyang Bladder Meridian; severely affecting the Kidney. Xunmeng Zhaoyou [visual obscuration and swaying dizziness], blindness, and deafness are characterized by excess below and deficiency above, involving the Foot-Shaoyang Gallbladder Meridian and Foot-Jueyin Liver Meridian; severely affecting the Liver. Deficiency below refers to Kidney deficiency, thus Kidney deficiency causes headache; deficiency above refers to Liver deficiency, thus Liver deficiency causes dizziness. 'Xunmeng' feels as if something covers the head, swaying unsteadily, with blurred vision and deafness, all signs of vertigo. Therefore, dizziness from Gan-Jue differs from headache from Shen-Jue.)
*Dou Men Fang* treats women suffering from Blood-Wind attacking the brain, causing dizziness, chest oppression, syncope, sudden collapse, and unconsciousness.
Take Hecao Cao (a medicinal herb), select its tender heart, dry it in the shade without quantity restriction, grind into powder. Take one large qian-bi (spoonful) with ordinary wine, at any time.
