The *Ju Fang* (Prescriptions of the Imperial Medical Bureau) treats women who frequently experience generalized pruritus, or urticaria with redness and swelling, accompanied by heat in the five centers (palms, soles, and chest), and blood wind attacking and lodging. It prescribes Ren Shen Jing Cai San (Ginseng and Schizonepeta Powder), Xiao Feng San (Wind-Expelling Powder), Si Wu Tang (Four Substances Decoction) added with Jing Jie (Schizonepeta), decocted for administration. Alternatively, Ren Shen Dang Gui San (Ginseng and Angelica Powder) may be used; or Xiao Yao San (Free and Easy Wanderer Powder) taken concurrently with Dao Chi Wan (Guide Out Redness Pill). If there is no relief, Zao Jiao Wan (Tamarisk Seed Pill) is administered after meals (those with Qi deficiency and the elderly should not take it for a long time). If symptoms do not subside after taking Zao Jiao Wan, this indicates severe stagnation and heat. One should first take Qing Mu Xiang Wan (Aucklandia Pill) for two to three doses to open the Qi mechanism; subsequently taking the previous remedies will yield efficacy.
Women are constitutionally deficient, allowing Wind pathogenic factors to lodge in the skin. When combined with Cold-Wind interaction, Feng Sao Yu Zhen (wind-induced itching and urticaria) arises. If the rash is red, it results from Cool-Dampness injuring the muscles/skin, where extreme heat within condenses to form red rashes. The condition worsens in hot weather and improves upon exposure to cold. If the rash is white, it results from Wind pathogenic factors injuring the interior of the skin/muscles; internal heat combats with Wind, thus forming white rashes. The condition worsens on cloudy/rainy/cold days and when exposed to wind, but improves in sunny/warm weather and when wearing warm clothing. The pulse should be Floating and Surging (Hong); Floating indicates Wind, Surging indicates Qi. When Wind and Qi combat each other, Yu Zhen (urticaria) forms, causing bodily itching. Whenever sweating occurs, one must not lie exposed outdoors or bathe. The *Su Wen* states: "Sweating followed by exposure to dampness generates acne and prickly heat." This causes chills, fever, and the generation of wind-rash.
The preface of *Lei Gong Pao Zhi* (Lei Gong's Processing of Medicinal Materials) states: For generalized rash-wind, mix raw Ce Bai Ye (Biota Tops) with wine.
