The so-called "Ji" (accumulation) belongs to Yin Qi, generated by the Five Viscera; the so-called "Ju" (aggregation) belongs to Yang Qi, formed by the Six Bowel Organs. Both result from irregular diet and imbalance of cold and heat, leading to the accumulation of Qi in the Five Viscera and aggregation of Qi in the Six Bowel Organs. In "Ji", the pain remains fixed in its location; in "Ju", the pain has no constant location. The reason is that "Ji" consists of Yin Qi, which is heavy and sinking, hence the pain does not leave its original site. "Ju" consists of Yang Qi, which is light and floating, hence the pain has no fixed place. After childbirth, blood and Qi injure the Viscera, making them weak. They are attacked by Wind-Cold pathogenic factors, which contend with the Viscera and knot together with blood and Qi, thus forming accumulations and masses.
