Acute Convulsive Disease (Ji Jing Feng)
Liu XX, male, three years old, from Kunming City. 1958.
The patient was hospitalized in a certain hospital. Due to fever persisting for four days without subsiding, sudden convulsions occurred early this morning. I was invited to consult. Symptoms included cyanotic complexion, coma, locked jaw, and rattling phlegm sound in the throat. Urinary incontinence and constipation. The pulse was surging, rapid, and forceful; the tongue tip was red with yellow and dry coating; the fingerprint was cyanotic, penetrating through the joints to the nail bed. This indicates hyperactivity of Liver Yang, obstruction by Phlegm-Heat, stagnation not transforming, and critical wind-movement symptoms. Urgently prescribe the following:
Uncariae Ramulus cum Uncis (Gouteng) 4.5g, Vinegar-calcined Cloud Mother Stone (Yunmu Shi) 6g, Mulberry Twig (Sangzhi) 12g, Vinegar-processed Pinellia Rhizome (Fabanxia) 6g, Ginger-processed Silkworm (Jiangcan) 3g, Chu Mint (Chubohhe) 4.5g, Charred Hawthorn Fruit (Jiaoshanzha) 6g, Radix Glycyrrhizae Preparata (Gancao Shao) 2.4g, Bamboo Shavings (Zhuru) 4.5g.
Stir-fried Rice Sprout (Gu Ya) and Malt (Mai Ya) 6g each. Two tubes of Snake Gallbladder and Tangerina Peel (Shedan Chenpi), half a pill of Niuhuang Qingxin Wan (Calculus Bovis Heart-Calming Pill). Mix and take these two medicines alternately.
Second visit: After taking the above prescription, fever subsided significantly, consciousness cleared, convulsions stopped, and phlegm sounds gradually diminished. Able to open mouth to call out and drink water. Bowels unblocked, discharging mucus and retained food. Pulse is wiry and slippery, tongue coating pale yellow. Irritability. The wind pathogen is gradually calming, but residual heat in Liver and Lung remains. Prescription:
Uncariae Ramulus cum Uncis (Gouteng) 4.5g, Vinegar-calcined Cloud Mother Stone (Yunmu Shi) 6g, Mulberry Twig (Sangzhi) 12g, Stir-fried White Peony Root (Baishao) 6g, Apricot Kernel (Xingren) 6g, Stir-fried Green Citrus Peel (Qingpi) 3g, Stir-fried Aurantium Fruit (Zhiqiao) 4.5g, Mulberry Leaf (Sangye) 6g, Reed Rhizome (Lugen) 9g.
Radix Glycyrrhizae Preparata (Gancao) 3g, Bamboo Shavings (Zhuru) 4.5g, Roasted Chicken Gizzard Lining (Jijin) 3g, One tube of Snake Gallbladder and Tangerina Peel (Shedan Chenpi) taken alternately.
Third visit: After finishing the above prescription, consciousness is clear, appetite returns, urination and defecation are normal. Pulse is wiry and moderate, coating thin with moisture, fingerprint receded to the Wind Joint. Wind has calmed, disease recedes. Continue with Spleen-strengthening and Liver-nourishing methods, clearing and regulating mutually advancing. Prescription:
Pinellia Rhizome (Banxia) 6g, Citrus Reticulata Pearl (Jieluo) 4.5g, Poria (Fuling) 9g, Stir-fried Hangzhou Peony Root (Hangshao) 6g, Mulberry Leaf (Sangye) 4.5g, Stir-fried Faba Bean (Bian Dou) 9g (decocted separately), Stir-fried Coix Seed (Yiren) 9g, Raw Radix Glycyrrhizae Preparata (Gancao) 3g, Bamboo Shavings (Zhuru) 4.5g, Five Jujubes (Dazao) 5 pieces, Hua Hong 3g.
Also instructed to alternate taking Erxian Jianpi Wan (Children's Spleen-Strengthening Pill) and Qinggan Fei'er Wan (Liver-Clearing Child-Nourishing Pill) to conclude treatment.
[Commentary] Pediatric convulsive disease is mostly caused by heat-toxicity scorching Yin, wild movement of wind-fire, stagnation of phlegm-heat, attacking the Pericardium upwards, causing spasms. The formula uses methods to calm Liver and extinguish wind, resolve phlegm and diffuse Lung, while adjusting Spleen and Stomach. The combination is flexible.
Spleen Gan Disease (Pi Gan)
Na XX, male, three years old, residing in Kunming City. 1943.
First visit: At birth, due to mother's illness, breastfeeding was insufficient, leading to congenital deficiency. After fever, repeated use of cold and purgative herbs resulted in fever subsiding but abdominal distension, borborygmus, and continuous diarrhea of undigested food. Subsequently, anorexia and reduced food intake developed, with a strong craving for fruits and sour foods. The illness lasted over half a year. Symptoms include withered hair and sallow complexion, emaciation, white lips, ulcerated eyelids, frequent crying and irritability, thirst with spontaneous sweating. Loose stools, turbid and short urine. Pulse is wiry, rapid, fine, and slippery; tongue body red, coating yellow with little moisture. The syndrome belongs to Spleen Gan, caused by prolonged illness damaging fluids, Qi, and Blood, Spleen failing to transport and transform, Liver hyperactivity, Stomach stagnation with parasites, accumulating into Gan. Method should be regulating middle and boosting Qi, consolidating Spleen and nourishing Liver, harmonizing Stomach and clearing heat, resolving parasites and eliminating accumulation. Prescription:
Codonopsis Radix (Modangshen) 9g, Earth-stir-fried Atractylodes Macrocephala Rhizome (Baizhu) 9g, Poria (Fuling) 9g, Stir-fried Coptis Rhizome (Huanglian) 3g, Stir-fried White Peony Root (Baishao) 6g, Quisqualis Fructus (Shijunzi) 6g, Guang Aloe (Luhui) 1.5g, Areca Seed (Binglang) 3g, Roasted Mume Fructus (Wumei) 2 pieces, Charred Hawthorn Fruit (Jiaocha Tan) 6g, Raw Radix Glycyrrhizae Preparata (Gancao) 3g. Decoct with two bowls of fresh rice-washing water as solvent.
Second visit: After taking seven or eight doses of the above prescription, complexion slightly moistened. Spontaneous sweating, abdominal distension, borborygmus, and loose stools all decreased, stomach appetite gradually opened. Still frequent crying and irritability, occasional nail-biting and teeth-grinding. Eyelid ulceration, dry eyes, dry nose, and white lips persist. Accumulation is gradually reducing, but Gan is not eliminated. Stick to original prescription with modifications.
Codonopsis Radix (Modangshen) 9g, Stir-fried Atractylodes Macrocephala Rhizome (Baizhu) 9g, Poria (Fuling) 9g, Stir-fried Hangzhou Peony Root (Hangshao) 6g, Amomum Fructus (Sharen) 6g, Citrus Reticulata Pericarpium (Chenpi) 6g, Stemona Radix (Baibu) 6g, Charred Hawthorn Fruit (Jiaocha Tan) 6g, Areca Seed (Binglang) 6g, Honey-fried Radix Glycyrrhizae Preparata (Gancao) 3g, Stir-fried Coix Seed (Yiren) 9g, Stir-fried Old Rice (Chenmi) 9g, Seven Jujubes (Dazao) 7 pieces, Charred Mume Fructus (Wumei Tan) 3 pieces.
Third visit: After taking more than ten doses of the above prescription, child's hair color turned lustrous, eyes bright, skin and muscles gradually filled out, crying/anger and dry cravings gradually eliminated, food intake increased, no longer strongly craving fruits. Pulse is fine and rapid, tongue coating thin. Gan accumulation gradually dissipating, Qi and Blood still deficient. Continue with tonification. Prescription:
Codonopsis Radix (Tiaoshen) 9g, Angelica Sinensis Radix (Danggui) 9g, Stir-fried Hangzhou Peony Root (Hangshao) 9g, Atractylodes Macrocephala Rhizome (Baizhu) 9g, Prepared Rehmannia Root (Shudi) 9g, Chinese Yam (Huai Shan Yao) 9g, Roasted Mume Fructus (Wumei) 9g, Amomum Fructus (Sharen) 6g, Stir-fried Old Rice (Chenmi) 12g, Seven Jujubes (Dazao) 7 pieces.
Fourth visit: After another ten-plus doses of the above prescription, Gan accumulation dissipated, skin and muscles plump. Pulse slow and forceful, tongue coating red and moist. Prepare the following formula into pills for regular consumption. After several months, the disease completely healed.
Codonopsis Radix (Tiaoshen) 60g, Whole Angelica Sinensis Radix (Danggui) 60g, Bleached Atractylodes Macrocephala Rhizome (Baizhu) 60g, Honey-fried Astragalus Membranaceus Root (Huangqi) 60g, Amomum Fructus (Sharen) 120g, Lotus Seeds (Lian Zi) 30g, Prepared Rehmannia Root (Shudi) 30g, Goji Berry (Gouqi) 15g, Chinese Yam (Huai Shan Yao) 60g, White Poria (Fuling) 30g, Stir-fried Coix Seed (Yiren) 30g, Honey-fried Radix Glycyrrhizae Preparata (Gancao) 9g, Small Red Jujubes (Xiaohong Zao) 20 pieces.
[Commentary] The first formula uses Si Jun Zi Tang (Four Gentlemen Decoction) plus Coptis Rhizome (Huanglian), Quisqualis Fructus (Shijunzi), Mume Fructus (Wumei), Areca Seed (Binglang), Charred Hawthorn Fruit (Jiaoshanzha), Aloe (Luhui), etc., simultaneously eliminating accumulation and treating Gan. Second visit reduces elimination and emphasizes tonification. Third and fourth visits: Gan accumulation dissipated, Qi and Blood not yet restored, purely using tonification. Converting medicine into pills for regular consumption is a good method for aftercare.
Whooping Cough (Bai Ri Ke)
Li XX, male, four years old, residing in Kunming City. Winter 1936.
First visit: Initially, the child had cough without phlegm, runny clear nose, no fever. Took wind-dispersing and cough-stopping agents, symptoms fluctuated. After more than a month, cough intensified, paroxysmal, each bout lasting dozens to hundreds of times. During coughing, throat sounded like a water fowl, neck retracted, fists clenched, shape resembling "egret". Accompanied by vomiting, blood in phlegm, slight epistaxis. Facial edema, red eyes. Constipation, short yellow urine. Pulse fine, wiry, and slippery; tongue pale with yellow coating. Syndrome due to wind pathogen lurking in Liver and Lung, Qi rebellion and Stomach stagnation, resulting in whooping cough, anciently called "spasmodic cough" or "egret cough" or "stuttering cough". Method should be diffusing Lung and calming Liver, descending rebellion and harmonizing Stomach. Proposed formula:
Ephedra Herba (Mahuang) 3g, Vinegar-processed Pinellia Rhizome (Fabanxia) 9g, Citrus Reticulata Pericarpium (Chenpi) 4.5g, Apricot Kernel (Xingren) 6g, Inula Flower (Xuanfuhua) 4.5g, Magnetite (Daizheshi) 6g, Bamboo Shavings (Zhuru) 3g, Imperata Rhizome (Baigen) 12g, Clean Sorghum Grain (Sumi) 9g, Roasted Chicken Gizzard Lining (Neijin) 1 piece. Take three doses.
Second visit: Pulse and tongue as before, vomiting during coughing reduced. Epistaxis and bloody phlegm not stopped, severe cough causes facial purple swelling. Disease severity still heavy, stick to original intent. Prescription:
Honey-fried Ephedra Herba (Mahuang) 3g, Magnetite (Daizheshi) 6g, Pinellia Rhizome (Banxia) 6g, Apricot Kernel (Xingren) 6g, Perilla Stem (Sugeng) 6g, Stir-fried Hangzhou Peony Root (Hangshao) 6g, White Poria (Fuling) 9g, Clean Bamboo Shavings (Zhuru) 6g, Imperata Rhizome (Baigen) 12g, Raw Radix Glycyrrhizae Preparata (Gancao) 3g.
Additionally, use herb "Yang Er Duo Duo Jian" (Millettia Speciosa buds) 60g honey-fried. Use most to decoct soup as water substitute to simmer medicine, remaining part simmer separately as beverage to drink frequently.
Third visit: After three consecutive doses of the above prescription, cough alleviated, epistaxis, bloody phlegm, and vomiting all stopped. Food intake increased, facial edema and red eyes gradually subsided. Pulse fine and slippery, tongue moist with juice, coating thin. Disease trend easing, Qi weak and Yin deficient, Liver, Spleen, and Lung meridians insufficient. Continue with moistening and Spleen-strengthening. Prescription:
Glehnia Radix (Shashen) 6g, Ophiopogon Tuber (Mendong) 6g, Poria (Fuling) 9g, Fritillaria Bulb (Beimu) 4.5g (decocted separately), Honey-fried Aster Root (Ziyuan) 6g, Honey-fried Adenophora Root (Donghua) 6g, Raw Coix Seed (Yiren) 9g, Stir-fried Hangzhou Peony Root (Hangshao) 6g, Lotus Seed (Lian Zi) 9g, Raw Radix Glycyrrhizae Preparata (Gancao) 3g, Clean Loquat Leaf (Paye) 2 leaves, Millettia Speciosa buds (Yang Er Duo Duo Jian) 30g (usage same as before).
Fourth visit: After three doses of the above prescription, cough stopped, all symptoms disappeared. Pulse harmonious, tongue moist. Food intake increased. Again propose nourishment. Prescription:
Codonopsis Radix (Tiaoshen) 9g, Stir-fried Chinese Yam (Huai Yao) 9g, White Poria (Fuling) 9g, Lilium Bulb (Baihe) 6g, Raw Coix Seed (Yiren) 9g, Lotus Seed (Lian Zi) 9g, Small Red Jujubes (Xiaohong Zao) 7 pieces, Ophiopogon Tuber (Mendong) 6g.
Note: Yang Er Duo Duo Jian refers to the bud leaves of Millettia Speciosa. Dian Nan Ben Cao records: "Treats Liver meridian cough, effective for chronic cough." Fresh ones are especially good.
[Commentary] Focuses on diffusing and benefiting Lung Qi, flexibly combined with descending rebellion and calming Liver, harmonizing Stomach and resolving phlegm, clearing heat and stopping bleeding, strengthening Spleen and nourishing Yin. Using honey-fried Millettia Speciosa buds with sour, bitter, sweet, and moist properties, entering Liver to dispel wind, moistening Lung and stopping cough, with significant efficacy.
Thrush (Ru E)
Chen XX, male, four years old, residing in Kunming City. February 1948.
First visit: Child had fever and aversion to cold, cough with condensed phlegm, dry throat and sore throat. Took wind-dispersing, Guizhi Tang (Cinnamon Twig Decoction), Shuangjie Tang/Wan (Double-Resolving Decoction/Pill) and Western medicines, symptoms did not subside, burning heat intensified, frequently calling out throat pain, unable to swallow food. Short red urine, difficult defecation. Condition acute and severe. Pulse wiry, surging, floating, rapid; tongue dry yellow without moisture. Observing throat, both sides swollen and red like silkworm moths, this is "Thrush". Also accompanied by cough, sticky phlegm obstructing throat, rattling sound, rapid breathing, hoarseness. Caused by accumulated heat in Lung and Stomach, turbid phlegm obstructing upwards, floating fire in Liver and Gallbladder, plus exterior pathogen invasion.
Urgently needle the Jing-River points of Hand Taiyin and Yangming meridians. Then induce vomiting with chicken feather, immediately vomiting large amount of sticky turbid phlegm. Then grind Camphor (Ercha), Borneol (Bingpian), Musk (Shexiang), Borax (Pengsha), Indigo Naturalis (Qingdai), Mint (Bohe) in equal parts into powder and blow into throat. Internal medicine prescription below:
Scrophularia Radix (Yuanshen) 9g, Rehmannia Root (Shengdi) 9g, Ophiopogon Tuber (Mendong) 9g, Moutan Cortex (Danpi) 4.5g, Chu Mint (Chubohhe) 4.5g, Fritillaria Bulb (Beimu) 6g, Isatis Leaf (Daqingye) 3g, Stir-fried Aurantium Fruit (Zhiqiao) 6g, Platycodon Root (Jiegeng) 3g, Bamboo Shavings (Zhuru) 6g, Mulberry Leaf (Sangye) 6g, Roasted Chicken Gizzard Lining (Jijin) 6g.
Mix and take 3 pills of Liushen Wan (Six-God Pill) with each dose.
Second visit: Through the above treatment, child's "Thrush" and swelling disappeared, chills and fever completely retreated, food intake increased, urination and defecation smooth. But little phlegm, slight cough, mental fatigue. Disease receding, Yin deficient, Lung dry, Spleen weak. Continue with the following prescription for regulation and recovery. Prescription:

[Commentary] This condition is quite acute, but the methods hit the mark. First visit diagnosed the disease, second visit achieved cure.
Wind-Heat-Dampness-Toxin Rash (Feng Re Shi Du Fa Zhen)
Ouyang XX, male, four years old.
First visit. The child is my grandson, named Xiao Hong. Usually Spleen deficient with heavy dampness, likes eating fish, shrimp, sweets. Spring 1963, age four, whole body rash appeared, new ones like rice grains, white color slightly itchy. Later turned red, itching and pain intensified. Contracted wind pathogen again, fever, cough, dry stool, short yellow urine. No appetite, prefers cold drinks. Subsequently rash particles multiplied, size like soybeans, itching day and night, uncontrollable. Pulse floating and wiry, tongue red, little coating. This belongs to wind-heat夹杂着 dampness invading skin externally, manifesting as eczema. Treatment: Dispel wind and remove dampness, cool and clear toxins. Formula based on Bian Que San Dou Yin (Bian Que Three Beans Decoction) with modifications:
Red Rice Bean (Hong Fan Dou) 9g (decocted separately), Green Mung Bean (Lv Xiaodou) 9g (decocted separately), Black Soybean (Hei Xiaodou) 9g (decocted separately), Stir-fried Schizonepeta Spike (Jingjie) 3g,绣防风 (Fangfeng) 6g, Wu Bai Zhi (Baizhi) 6g, Winter Mulberry Leaf (Sangye) 9g, Charred Hawthorn Fruit (Jiaoshanzha) 6g, Chicken Gizzard Lining (Neijin) 1 piece (stir-fried), Reed Root (Lugen) 9g, Honeysuckle Flower (Jinyinhua) 6g, Forsythia Fruit (Lianqiao) 6g.
After taking two doses of the above prescription, burning heat subsided, short yellow urine, blister rash did not reappear, itching and pain slightly reduced. Pulse wiry, rapid, forceful, tongue body red. Wind-heat-dampness-toxin not yet clean. Original prescription with modifications, take again. Prescription:
Red Rice Bean (Hong Fan Dou) 9g (decocted separately), Green Mung Bean (Lv Xiaodou) 9g (decocted separately), Black Soybean (Hei Xiaodou) 9g (decocted separately), Honeysuckle Flower (Jinyinhua) 6g, Forsythia Fruit (Lianqiao) 6g, Red Peony Root (Chishao) 6g, Wu Bai Zhi (Baizhi) 6g, Stir-fried Scutellaria Root (Huangqin) 3g, Cicada Slough (Chantui) 3g, Kochia Fruit (Kuzi) 3g, Viola Yedoensis Herb (Zididing) 3g, Raw Radix Glycyrrhizae Preparata (Gancao) 3g.
After taking three doses of the above prescription, blisters gradually dried, itching gradually stopped. Tongue turned pale red, pulse fine and slightly wiry. Continue with Spleen-strengthening and dampness-removing, wind-dispelling and blood-cooling toxin-clearing agents for regulation. Prescription:
Rehmannia Root (Shengdi) 9g, Moutan Cortex (Danpi) 3g, Stir-fried Chinese Yam (Huai Yao) 9g, White Poria (Fuling) 9g, Honeysuckle Flower (Jinyinhua) 4.5g, Forsythia Fruit (Lianqiao) 4.5g, Raw Coix Seed (Yiren) 9g, Red Rice Bean (Hong Fan Dou) 9g (decocted separately), Green Mung Bean (Lv Xiaodou) 9g (decocted separately), Red Peony Root (Chishao) 6g, Old Luffa Fruit (Laosigua) 6g, Raw Radix Glycyrrhizae Preparata (Gancao) 3g.
[Commentary] Damp-heat accumulates, during spring generation mechanism, plus contracting wind pathogen, resulting in this disease. Many children in Kunming contract it, commonly known as "Kunming Rash". Treating this syndrome often uses Bian Que San Dou Yin as main formula, and according to the child's physical strength, applies methods such as clearing and dispersing, diffusing and transforming, toxin-clearing, Spleen-strengthening, blood-cooling, collateral-clearing, and Yin-nourishing. Clinical efficacy is quite good.
Miscellaneous Diseases
Epigastric Carbuncle (Wei Wan Yong)
Liu XX, male, thirty-five years old, residing in Weijia Alley, Kunming City. Autumn 1937. Patient invited me to consult. According to him: Illness of fluid retention has lasted over a year, repeatedly treated with Chinese and Western medicines without effect, emaciated as bones. Pulse wiry, slippery, and rapid; tongue coating thin yellow slightly greasy. Opening clothes to view, lower chest protrudes like drum leather, pressing without pain. Low fever, shortness of breath, occasional dry retching. Short red urine, bowel movement once every few days. I pondered repeatedly: Could it be due to untreated Shaoyang-Taiyang complex constraint (Jie Xiong) from Cold Damage, lingering for a long time, forming this condition? Otherwise, how could it look like this? Thus rashly prescribed Shizao Tang (Ten Date Decoction). Immediately returned to ask my father, Mr. Yin Xuan. Father said: "Although this belongs to Shizao Tang syndrome, due to long duration, righteous Qi must be deficient. Fear the body cannot tolerate the medicine, causing other complications. Follow Zhongjing's method, instruct the family to convert Yuanhua (Kerria Flower) etc. into powder. Taking with date soup is appropriate." I urgently went back to the patient's home, informed the family to change to this method. Prescription:
Kerria Flower (Yuanhua) 9g, Kansui Root (Gansui) 9g, Euphorbia Root (Daji) 9g. Grind the above three ingredients into fine powder. Decoct ten large jujubes in water to send down the medicine. Each time 4.5g, three times daily.
Next day, I went for follow-up. Patient stated that after taking medicine, sounds of movement under chest, but no vomiting or diarrhea. Viewing, lower chest protrusion even worse, shape like inverted bowl, red and swollen, bright and lustrous, also without pain. While checking pulse, suddenly heard a "whoosh" sound from patient's lower chest. Swollen area broke a small hole, pus flowed out, filling a bowl instantly, still no pain felt. Pulse turned fine, subtle, and gentle. I feared evil expelled but righteous Qi declined, leading to collapse. Urgently ordered Ginseng Decoction to be forced down, and proposed the following prescription:
Raw Astragalus Membranaceus Root (Huangqi) 15g, Angelica Sinensis Radix (Danggui) 9g, Stir-fried Hangzhou Peony Root (Hangshao) 9g, Wu Bai Zhi (Baizhi) 9g, Ligusticum Chuanxiong Rhizome (Chuanxiong) 6g, Chinese Yam (Huai Shan Yao) 12g, Fritillaria Thunbergii Bulb (Beimu) 9g (decocted separately), Citrus Reticulata Pericarpium (Chenpi) 6g, Raw Radix Glycyrrhizae Preparata (Gancao) 3g.
Raw Notoginseng Powder (Sanqi Fen) mix 0.9g each time.
After taking three doses of the above prescription, pus discharge stopped, wound healed. Occasionally slight pain, pulse turned moderate, tongue pale with thin coating. Evil pathogen externally expelled, Qi and Blood greatly deficient, Spleen weak, Heart Spirit insufficient, collaterals lacking nourishment. Hence feeling mental fatigue, shortness of breath, spontaneous sweating, palpitations, poor night sleep. Little food intake, intestinal dryness, bowel movement once every few days, yellow urine. Again propose the following prescription:
Raw Astragalus Membranaceus Root (Huangqi) 15g, Whole Angelica Sinensis Radix (Danggui) 15g, Stir-fried Hangzhou Peony Root (Hangshao) 9g, Shangdang Codonopsis Radix (Dangshen) 15g, Stir-fried Ziziphus Seed (Suanzaoren) 15g (decocted separately), Stir-fried Atractylodes Macrocephala Rhizome (Baizhu) 12g, Honey-fried Polygala Root (Yuanzhi) 6g, Costus Root (Muxiang) 3g, Poria with Wood (Fushenmu) 15g, Amomum Fructus (Sharen) 6g (decocted separately), Raw Radix Glycyrrhizae Preparata (Gancao) 3g, Longan Aril (Longyan Rou) 10 pieces, Mulberry Parasite (Sangjisheng) 12g, Hemp Seed (Huomaren) 12g (decocted separately).
After regulating with more than ten doses of the above prescription, various symptoms lightened. Instructed to subsequently take Guipi Wan (Restore the Spleen Pill), Shiquan Dabu Wan (Ten Complete Tonifying Pill), Bazhen Wan (Eight Treasure Pill) to consolidate.
[Commentary] Regarding carbuncles, Nei Jing has early records and discussions. Ling Shu - Yong Ju Pian: "Carbuncle: its skin is thin and glossy, this is its sign." Su Wen - Bing Neng Pian: "...if rebellious and excessive, heat gathers at the stomach opening and does not move, thus the epigastrium becomes a carbuncle." And so on.
In this case, the patient, due to untreated Cold Damage complex constraint syndrome, pathogen凝聚 for a long time, transformed into heat and pus, forming this condition. Initially used Shizao Tang to attack and drain, forcing pus and evil to externally expel. Subsequently, supporting interior and draining pus, harmonizing Qi and Blood. Finally, nourishing Heart and calming Spirit, regulating and supplementing Qi and Blood to conclude. When pus erupted and righteous Qi was deficient, feeding Ginseng Decoction was a good strategy for adaptation.
