The clan nephew Sun Junxi experienced headache, distension in the chest and back, vomiting immediately after food passed through the diaphragm, incessant coughing, turbid sputum resembling pus, and dry, hard stools. Upon palpating the pulse, only the right Cun (Cun position of the radial artery) was surging and large. He was administered Er Chen Tang (Two-Aged Decoction) with added Zhu Ru (Bamboo Shavings), Hua Shi (Talcum), Shi Gao (Gypsum Fibrosum), Jiu Lian (Liquorice-processed Coptis Rhizome), and Mai Dong (Ophiopogon Tuber). After taking four doses continuously, combined with Yi Yuan Wan (Benefit Prime Pill) taken at night, both the cough and vomiting ceased. However, the sputum remained turbid like pus with a fishy odor, indicating an impending development of Fei Yong (Lung Abscess). The prescription was changed to Mu Dan Pi (Moutan Cortex), Men Dong (Ophiopogon Tuber), Shan Zhi Zi (Gardenia Fruit), Gan Cao (Liquorice Root), Bei Mu (Fritillaria Bulb), Zhi Ke (Aurantium Fructus), Sang Bai Pi (Morus Root Bark), Zi Wan (Aster Root), Zhi Mu (Anemarrhena Rhizome), Dang Gui (Angelica Sinensis), Sheng Di Huang (Rehmannia Root), and Jie Geng (Platycodon Root). After four doses, he was completely cured.
The wife of my nephew Sun Erjia had suffered three miscarriages during three pregnancies. Her six pulses were slippery and rapid. This indicated Qi deficiency and Blood heat. Due to the internal heat, the fetal qi descended frequently; due to the frequent loss of blood, she was terrified, lying down all day and daring not to rise slightly. If she rose even a little, heavy bleeding occurred. She was given Sheng Di Huang (Rehmannia Root), Bai Shao Yao (White Peony Root), Bai Zhu (Atractylodes Macrocephala Rhizome), Di Yu (Sanguisorba Root), Sang Ji Sheng (Taxillus Caulis), Xu Duan (Dipsacus Root), Gan Cao (Liquorice Root), Sheng Ma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma), Chun Gen Bai Pi (Toona Root Bark), Huang Bo (Phellodendron Bark), and Tiao Qin (Scutellaria Root). After administration, the bleeding stopped for three days, leaving only continuous leukorrhea. Five days later, due to urgent matters, she rose and exerted herself slightly, causing heavy bleeding again. I stated: "The slipping of blood has persisted for a long time, like water flowing in an old channel; if it is not astringed, it cannot stop." Furthermore, I considered that the Xue Hai (Sea of Blood) was very hot, which was also caused by Liver Wind. Fang Feng Zi Qin Wan (Wind-Dispersing and Heat-Clearing Pill) was precisely suitable for this condition, so I prepared it for her. Additionally, I prepared another pill formula: Bai Shao Yao (White Peony Root) 6 liang, Ce Bai Ye (Biota Tops) and Tiao Qin (Scutellaria Root) 3 liang each, Fang Feng (Saposhnikovia Root) and Chun Gen Bai Pi (Toona Root Bark) 2 liang each, made into honey pills. From then on, the bleeding stopped, the fetus was secured, and she delivered a healthy son at full term. Thereafter, she gave birth to three more children without any risk of Tai Lou (Threatened Miscarriage). Later, whenever threatened miscarriage occurred, this method was applied sequentially, always yielding good results. I attach this for colleagues' reference for future use.
The wife of the nephew of Honglu Si (Court of State Ceremonial) official Wei Yuan experienced itching in the throat, coughing up bloody sputum, and surging-large pulses at both Cun and Guan positions, accompanied by internal heat and ulceration. She was prescribed Shan Zhi Zi (Gardenia Fruit), Xiao Ji (Cirsium Carthmoides Herb), Sheng Di Huang (Rehmannia Root), Mu Dan Pi (Moutan Cortex), Hua Shi (Talcum), Qing Pi (Citrus Reticulata Green Peel), Men Dong (Ophiopogon Tuber), Gan Cao (Liquorice Root), Huang Lian (Coptis Rhizome), and Gua Lou (Trichosanthes Fruit), decocted in water and drunk. The bleeding stopped and the cough was eliminated. Later, mental exertion triggered coughing and a metallic taste in the throat, entirely due to excessive heat in the Upper Jiao (Upper Burner). She regularly took five or three doses of Pi Pa Ye (Loquat Leaf), Shan Zhi Zi (Gardenia Fruit), Sheng Di Huang (Rehmannia Root), Bai Shao Yao (White Peony Root), Gan Cao (Liquorice Root), Mu Dan Pi (Moutan Cortex), Di Long (Pheretima), Tian Hua Fen (Trichosanthes Root), Hua Shi (Talcum), and Zi Wan (Aster Root), achieving stability within two months.
