The wife of my nephew, Lady Cheng, experienced throat pain in the afternoon. Recently, she had excessive phlegm and syncope (fainting), occurring two to three times a day, accompanied by headache and facial redness. She had never given birth. The left pulse was wiry and large; the right Cun and Guan positions were slippery, large, and forceful. A decoction of Jingjie (Schizonepetae Herba), Bohe (Menthae Haplocalycis Herba), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma), Jiegeng (Platycodonis Radix), Xuanshen (Scrophulariae Radix), Jiangcan (Bombyx Batryticatus), Chaihu (Bupleuri Radix), Zhike (Aurantii Fructus Immaturus), Zhuru (Bambusae Caulis in Taeniam), and Beimu (Fritillariae Thunbergii Bulbus) was prepared with water for drinking. After taking two doses consecutively, she slept that night. However, she still had back distension, palpitations (Zhenzhong), unclear phlegm, and facial heat. A formula of Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix), Zhike, Gancao, Sangbaipi (Morus Cortex), Digupi (Lycii Cortex), Tianhuafen (Trichosanthis Radix), Xuanshen, Qianhu (Peucedani Radix), Banxiaqu (Pinelliae Fermentatum), Juhong (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium Rubrum), and Shanzhiren (Gardeniae Semen) was used for conditioning, leading to stability.
Brother Wang, the elder brother of Mr. Wang, suffered from an epidemic febrile disease. Due to excessive sweating therapy, heat remained in the chest, causing incessant irritability, nausea, vomiting, and discomfort. Sweating did not cease, and he felt thirsty. Upon palpation, only the two Guan pulses were surging and large. This indicated that Yangming heat persisted. The primary treatment should be Baihu Shengmai Tang (White Tiger Decoction plus Pulse-Generating Powder). Ingredients: Shigao (Gypsum Fibrosum) 5 qian, Zhimu (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma) 3 qian, Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma), Baishao Yao (Paeoniae Radix Alba), Gancao, and Shihu (Dendrobii Caulis) each 1 qian, Maimendong (Ophiopogonis Radix) 2 qian, and Wuweizi (Schisandrae Chinensis Fructus) 15 grains. It was rapidly decocted and drunk, after which the fever subsided. Subsequently, Yi Yuan Wan (Benefit Prime Pill) was administered, and the vomiting ceased.
He Mingwu suffered from an epidemic disease relapsed due to dietary indiscretion. He had constipation, nausea, vomiting, internal heat, confusion, loss of consciousness, occasional muttering in sleep, and picking at clothes and bedrails. This indicated heat in the Xinbao Luo Jing (Pericardium Collateral Meridian). A prescription of Zhuru, Maidong (Ophiopogonis Radix), Zhimu, and Shanzhi (Gardeniae Fructus) each 1 qian, Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium), Banxiaqu, Suanzaoren (Ziziphi Spinosae Semen), and Zhishi (Aurantii Fructus Immaturus) each 8 fen, and Gancao 3 fen was administered. By midnight, his mental state cleared slightly, but residual heat remained. A second prescription of Shigao 3 qian, Zhimu 2 qian, Zhuru, Maidong, and raw Suanzaoren each 1 qian, Tianhuafen and Chenpi each 7 fen, Zhishi, Maiya (Hordei Fructus Germinatus), and Banxiaqu each 6 fen was decocted in water and taken. In the afternoon, bowel movements occurred, fever subsided, and all symptoms resolved.
My clan nephew, Sun Yuansu, suffered from Spring-Warmth disease with headache and fever. The left pulse was wiry and large, and the right pulse was surging and large. He recovered after taking two doses of Xiao Chaihu Tang combined with Baihu Tang. Later, due to dietary relapse, macules (banzhen) appeared. They were purple in color, accompanied by coma, loss of consciousness, heavy body unable to move, unawareness of water and fire, closed eyes with snoring sleep, resembling a drunken person. The face was red and hot; the tongue coating was yellow on the outside and black inside, with prickles. Three days later, upon palpation, all six pulse positions were floating and surging. Sanhuang Shigao Tang (Three-Yellow Gypsum Decoction) with added Zhishi and Biejia (Trionycis Carapax) was administered. Slight sweating ensued, and true stool was passed. The next day, he could open his eyes and speak. A bowl of porridge was given, followed by conditioning with Xiao Chaihu Tang added with Shanzhi, Zhishi, Biejia, and Baishao Yao, leading to recovery.
