After delivery, the mother should not lie in bed immediately. She should be supported by two people while standing, and someone should gently massage from below the epigastrium down to the umbilical and abdominal region fifteen to sixteen times. Even if she falls asleep afterwards, this massage should be performed periodically to prevent blood stasis (stagnation of blood flow).
The abdomen should be kept warm with a small garment heated by ironing or warming; even in midsummer, a single blanket is insufficient. If the abdomen becomes cold, blood clots will fail to discharge and pain will occur.
Immediately after the infant is born and placed on the ground, administer two doses of Shenghua Tang (Postpartum Transformation Decoction), decocted three times.
If the infant has been delivered but the placenta remains retained, care must be taken to cover and protect the mother's perineal area. In winter, place fire beneath the bedding and keep the abdomen warm with hot garments, which is crucial. Additionally, administer more Shenghua Tang (Postpartum Transformation Decoction), Yimu Wan (Motherwort Pills), or Xi Taiyi Wan (Placenta Expelling Pills).
If the mother is extremely deficient, heat bricks, stones, or heavy weights (such as steelyard sinkers) to prevent Xueyun (blood syncope/dizziness caused by postpartum hemorrhage).
Once the infant is delivered, immediately administer one dose of Shenghua Tang (Postpartum Transformation Decoction). If the stomach is very hungry, consume one cup of white rice porridge, but do not overeat. After an hour, administer another dose of Shenghua Tang (Postpartum Transformation Decoction). If no food has been consumed, quickly administer two doses of Shenghua Tang (Postpartum Transformation Decoction), decocted three times. Combine the first and second decoctions into one volume for administration; consuming food at this time is highly beneficial.
Within 120 days postpartum, avoid excessive physical labor.
For the first seven days, absolutely do not wash the perineal area. After seven days, one may get out of bed and wash using warm water sitz baths. Only after one full month (postpartum confinement period) may one comb hair and take a bath.
At the end of winter and beginning of spring, when the weather is cold and stagnant, carefully close all windows. Place fire sources to maintain warmth and steam circulation. The lower body must remain covered with cotton clothing to prevent Taihan Xuemie (uterine coldness and blood coagulation), which could lead to difficult labor or retention of the fetal membrane (placenta).
Around the seventh day, tightly cover the vulva to prevent wind pathogens from entering.
Jiakuang Jikun Dazao Wan Formula (Modified Pill for Nourishing the Uterus and Enhancing Conception)
When taken by women, this formula benefits Qi and Blood, warms the uterus, and is a miraculous prescription for promoting conception.
Ziheche (Human Placenta): One unit. It must be from the first pregnancy of a healthy woman. Wash thoroughly to remove all blood. Place it in a clay pot separated by four or five bamboo strips, resting on a rush mat base to catch any fluids. Steam it with Baijiu (white liquor), ensuring the placenta does not directly touch the alcohol.

For weak spleen and stomach with chronic diarrhea, add Baizhu (Atractylodes Macrocephala Rhizome) [1 liang] and Lianrou (Lotus Seed Flesh) [2 liang, heart removed]. For low blood volume, palpitations, fearfulness, and insomnia, add Zaoren (Sour Jujube Seed) [1 liang, stir-fried] and Longyan Rou (Longan Aril) [2 liang].
Grind all ingredients into a fine powder. Mash the Ziheche (Human Placenta) and mix with the powder to form pills. Take 60–70 pills on an empty stomach.
