Guest asked: "All diseases enter through the mouth," so how can food and drink instead cure diseases? Generally, herbal medicines and minerals possess biased Qi of the Five Elements, similar to how humans contract illnesses. Because the Zang-Fu organs have excesses or deficiencies, the Qi and Blood also become imbalanced. Therefore, drugs with biased properties are used to treat the Qi and Blood imbalances caused by the excesses/deficiencies of the Zang-Fu organs, restoring them to normality. However, once the disease is cured, one should stop; overuse will cause the medicine itself to induce illness. Thus, diet is what sustains human life. If one indulges in gluttony and cravings, it leads to the saying that "all diseases enter through the mouth." This is the same principle. Moreover, grains obtain the upright Qi of the Five Elements, yet even they have such considerations. Drinks nourish Yang Qi, and foods nourish Yin Qi, as elaborated in the *Huangdi Neijing* (Yellow Emperor's Inner Canon). Grains serve as the primary nourishment, fruits assist, harmonizing Qi and Blood to ensure longevity. Why do modern people neglect this and fail to study it? They only know that medicine can cure diseases, not realizing that within daily diet and lifestyle, self-reflection and moderation can eliminate illness and prolong life. The ancient prescriptions for dietary therapy indeed hold profound significance; those who value health preservation should take note.
