Pediatric patients may occasionally suffer burns from scalding water or fire, resulting in sores. In mild cases, the skin initially rises and blisters, breaking open to exude yellow fluid, forming a sore. In severe cases, the skin ruptures and muscle tissue is damaged, forming a sore. It is absolutely imperative not to apply cold substances, mud, honey, or similar materials to the affected area, as this may prevent heat from dissipating, causing it to stagnate and lead to ulceration, thereby deeply damaging the meridians and collaterals. Extreme caution should be exercised. The following prescriptions are listed below:
Hemp Seed Ointment (Mazi Gao)
For treating scalds and burns. Proven efficacy.
Cannabis Fructus (Damaizi, 大麻子) - 1 he
Platycladi Cortex (Baimu Baipi, 柏木白皮) - 1 liang
Angelicae Dahuricae Radix (Xiangbaizhi, 香白芷) - 1 liang
Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma (Gancao, 甘草) - 1 liang
Rehmanniae Radix Recens (Shengdihuang, 生地黄) - 1 liang
Grind the above ingredients into coarse powder. Add 8 liang of lard (Zhu Zhi, 猪脂), and simmer together with the herbs until the mixture turns yellow. Filter out the dregs using cotton cloth, and store the resulting ointment in a porcelain vessel. Apply a small amount to the sore each time.
Another prescription: Use rice washing sediment (Ximian Jiao, 洗面脚), dry it in the sun, stir-fry until charred black, and grind into fine powder. Mix with good sesame oil (Shanyou, 麻油) and apply. This also helps resolve heat toxicity. Burn HT leaves to ash, grind into fine powder, mix with oil, and apply. This stops pain and prevents scarring. Proven efficacy. Apply juice from boiled soybeans; healing is rapid and scar-free. Apply mud mixed with vinegar. For instance, a slave girl of Sun Guangxian held a child who accidentally fell onto charcoal fire and was burned. Mud mixed with vinegar was applied, resulting in no scarring. Dry Platycladi Semen (Baizi Fang, 柏子房) and hang in a ventilated place. When needed, grind into powder, mix with good oil, and sweep onto the wound with a chicken feather. The sensation is like applying ice, and pain ceases immediately. Grind clam shells (Ge Li Ke, 蛤蜊壳) into fine powder, mix with oil, and apply. The sensation is like ice, and no scarring occurs. Stir-fry wheat flour (Xiaomai Mian, 小麦面) until charred black, grind into powder, mix with raw sesame oil, and apply by sweeping with a chicken feather. This is highly effective. Also, use weathered calcined gypsum (Fenghua Duanshi, 风化锻石) in any quantity, stir-fry in a crucible until yellow, remove fire toxicity by placing on the ground, grind into fine powder, and mix with raw sesame oil for application. This treats all cases where injury is severe, pain persists, and bone, tendon, skin, and flesh are destroyed.
Another prescription: Catch a large live rat. First, boil one jin of sesame oil in a crucible until hot. Then kill the rat. After cooling, plunge the rat into the oil and fry until the hair and bones disintegrate. Filter out the dregs and discard them. Add half a liang of Frankincense (Ruxiang, 乳香) powder and half a liang of Myrrh (Moyao, 没药) powder, stirring well. Simmer over charcoal fire until an ointment forms. Store in a porcelain vessel, seal tightly, and bury in a pit approximately one chi deep for three months before retrieval.
Apply immediately upon encountering scalds or burns for instant effect. This also treats metal weapon injuries (Jinchuang, 金疮).
