The *Yangsheng Fang Daoyin Fa* (Prescriptions for Nourishing Life and Guiding-Invigorating Methods) states: Move left then right, lie on your side with eyes closed, hold the breath twelve times to treat various types of fluid retention that fail to dissipate. If there is fluid pathology on the right, hold the breath on the left to expel and dissipate it.
It also states: When practicing Qi circulation, bow the head and lean against a wall, hold the breath twelve times, and use intention to guide the expulsion; phlegm-fluids and retained food will exit from the lower part. Those skilled in Qi circulation place the body at the curve of the neck, allowing Qi to descend downward; one session can cure retained food. Over time, it will naturally exit without needing to block the nostrils.
The *Yangsheng Fang* states: Do not drink water immediately upon waking; sleeping again after drinking may cause Shuipi (water癖, a condition characterized by fluid accumulation forming masses).
It also states: Swallowing water suddenly and hurriedly may, over time, lead to Shuipi.
It also states: Raise both knees to clamp the sides of the cheeks, support the body with hands on the ground in a squatting position; long-term practice can cure Fuliang (a disease characterized by masses in the abdomen). Fuliang refers to retained food that fails to digest and forms masses, feeling like cups or plates in the abdomen. Suyong (old abscesses) refers to old fluids and Qi, where masses repeatedly generate sores. Long-term practice can transform intestines into sinews and bones into solidity.
The *Yangsheng Fang Daoyin Fa* states: Tilt the body, move both hands to one side, exert force to stretch the body, head, and hands together, pulling against each other gradually until maximum effort is reached in one go; Qi and strength should be harmonious. The same applies to movements to the left and right, performed thirty-seven times each. Slowly stretch the hands at the two corners of the front and back of the neck, as if pulling outward. Indulge the mind and body to shake thirty-seven times. Dunhu (a specific guiding-invincorating movement) is done similarly. This removes disharmony in Tai Cang (the Stomach), alleviating emptiness and stuffiness in the arms and waist.
The *Yangsheng Fang* states: Do not eat ginger in the eighth month. Some say do not eat melons that have been frosted. In winter, this may trigger chills and fever, warm diseases, loss of appetite with nausea, or retained fluid in the heart region that fails to dissipate, or even fanwei (regurgitation/vomiting of undigested food).
The *Yangsheng Fang Daoyin Fa* states: Sit upright, grasp wrists with both hands behind the back, push against the mat with maximum effort, tighten the abdomen and move up and down seven times. Switching left and right is done similarly. This eliminates coldness in the abdomen, accumulation of wind and old Qi, cold stomach, difficulty in eating and drinking, and vomiting with inability to keep food down.
It also states: Lie supine, extend calves and hands, lift the left foot to address swelling in both feet, inhale through the nose, reach maximum effort for seven breaths, eliminating pain and bitterness in the lower back.
It also states: Sit straight, extend both legs, grasp both feet with both hands, reach maximum effort for twelve cycles to cure gastrointestinal inability to accept food and vomiting. Cross both hands directly under the soles of both feet, relieve pain in both feet, rest the head on the knees, reach maximum effort for twelve cycles to cure gastrointestinal inability to accept food and vomiting.
