Mr. Dongfang's Method: All types of consumption diseases (Lao Ji) can affect men, women, boys, and unmarried girls. If a patient has contracted the disease, there is no immediate need to examine the pulse; simply observe the fingernails. The clarity of their beauty or ugliness reveals the specific type of consumption syndrome. When the pathological heat is severe, one should also inspect the toenails, which mirror the condition of the fingernails. Nails that are cyanotic and black indicate *Chuan Shi* (a contagious chronic wasting disease); red and white nails indicate normal healthy qi; yellow and white nails indicate damage from excessive alcohol and sexual activity; red and purple nails indicate *Qi Lao* (consumption due to emotional stagnation). Careful examination will reveal the location of the pathology. Symptoms may include coughing, phlegm obstructing the throat, bone-steaming fever with night sweats, diarrhea, hematemesis, palpitations with nightmares, or menstrual irregularities in women. First, administer vermifuge drugs, then proceed with therapeutic decoctions.
Formula for Vermifuge Pills by Mr. Dongfang
