According to *Chao Shi Bing Yuan* (Source of Diseases by Master Chao) regarding the syndrome of infantile cough with reversed qi (Ke Ni): Cough with reversed qi is caused by unregulated breastfeeding, which leads to wind-cold pathogens damaging the Lung. The Lung governs Qi and serves as the uppermost cover for the five Zang organs, located within the chest. When an infant cries, their Qi is unsettled; if breastfeeding occurs immediately, the milk and the rebellious Qi clash. The Qi draws the milk into the Lung, causing coughing and upward reversal of Qi, which is termed "cough with reversed qi." Additionally, cold milk or food damaging the Lung and clashing with Lung Qi can also induce this condition.
*Qian Jin Fang* (Essential Prescriptions Worth a Thousand Gold) formula for treating cough with reversed qi and shortness of breath in infants and adults, characterized by rapid breathing in the chest, coughing up nasal discharge and saliva, and expectorating foul-smelling pus.
