According to *Chao Shi Bing Yuan* (Source of Diseases by Chao): In infants, hiccups occur because the milk fed is cold; cold qi enters the stomach and rebels against the Stomach Qi. The cold obstructs the Stomach Qi, preventing it from flowing smoothly, thus causing hiccups.
According to *Qian Jin Yi Fang* (Supplement to the Essential Prescriptions Worth a Thousand Gold): If there is deficiency-cold in the Stomach, and the person cannot eat, drinking water will induce hiccups.
*Qian Jin Fang* (Essential Prescriptions Worth a Thousand Gold) treats infant hiccups with the following formula:
Fresh Ginger Juice (Shengjiang Zhi), Cow's Milk (Niurou) (each 5 he).
Decoct the above two ingredients to obtain 5 he. Divide into two doses. *Tai Ping Sheng Hui Fang* (Holy Grace Formulas of the Taiping Era) uses the same method: 2 he of Cow's Milk and 1 he of Ginger Juice, boiled once in a silver vessel. A one-year-old infant drinks half a he.
Another formula from *Qian Jin Fang*:
Take 1 sheng of Cow's Milk, decoct to obtain 5 he, and divide into five doses. *Wai Tai Mi Yao* (Secret Essentials of the Outer Cabinet) uses Sheep's Milk for decoction; if unavailable, substitute with Cow's Milk. *Tai Ping Sheng Hui Fang* is similar, but only boils for two or three times.
*Gu Jin Lu Yan* (Verified Records of Past and Present) treats infant hiccups with the following formula:
Deer Horn Powder (Lujiao Fen), Soybean (Dadou, ground).
Mix equal parts of the above. Blend with breast milk, apply to the nipple, and let the infant suckle.
*Tai Ping Sheng Hui Fang* treats persistent infant hiccups with Dingxiang San (Clove Powder):

Pulverize the above herbs and sieve to make a powder. For children aged three to four years, administer 1 qian per dose. Add a small amount of fresh ginger to 1 xiao zhan (small cup) of water, decoct until reduced to 0.5 zhan, strain, and take warm at any time. Adjust dosage according to the child's size.
*Tai Ping Sheng Hui Fang* treats persistent infant hiccups accompanied by mental restlessness with Renshen San (Ginseng Powder):
