Take one jin of oak root bark, decoct it strongly, add a handful of salt, and soak the affected area.
The *Qianjin Fang* treats swelling caused by broken injury wind.
Apply thick almond paste to the lesion, ignite hemp candles, and moxa at a distance.
The *Qianjin Fang* states that all cases of pain and swelling due to sores are caused by water poisoning and wind-cold invasion; if the swelling enters the abdomen, it is fatal. The treatment formula is as follows.
Soak in warm ash lye from mulberry branches, reheat when cold, keeping it constantly hot. This method is mysterious and effective.
The *Qianjin Fang* treats edema from water poisoning in sores.
Mix charcoal white ash and lead carbonate (Hu Fen) in equal parts, blend with fat, and apply to the sore opening. Pain ceases when fluid drains out.
(Regarding splinters and insect venom) There are seventeen categories in total.
(Bamboo/wood splinters, fox urine splinters, and formulas for splinters causing wind-water invasion)
The *Qianjin Fang* treats malignant splinters.
Cut open a bitter gourd (or bottle gourd), inject infant urine, boil for two or three boils, and soak the affected area.
The *Qianjin Fang*, another formula.

The *Qianjin Fang* states that severe pain and swelling from sores lasting several days can be fatal. If caused by wind-cold, water poisoning, or fox urine splinters, use this treatment:
Burn millet straw, ox/horse manure, or fresh mulberry branches, selecting materials that produce abundant smoke to fumigate the area. Healing occurs when sweat or toxins discharge.
The *Qianjin Fang*, another formula.
Insert hot wax into the sore; even new sores will heal.
The *Qianjin Fang*, another formula.
Harvest the white latex from dandelion roots and stems, apply generously to the lesion until healed. In the fifth year of Zhenguan, on the night of July 15th, I touched a tree in the courtyard with the back of my left middle finger. By dawn, unbearable pain set in. After ten days, the pain deepened, the sore swelled higher, and the color resembled ripe small beans. Having heard elders discuss this remedy, I tried it again. It worked immediately: pain vanished, the sore healed, and within ten days I recovered fully. This is highly effective, so I record it. In Shu, it is called Erban Cai; in Guanzhong, Gou Ru (pronounced 'nu'). Additionally, the *Qianjin Yi Fang* (Supplement to Essential Prescriptions) states: During midsummer, mantises and similar insects often lay eggs on various objects, secreting fluids. When these fluids dry, they become toxic. Human contact leads to illness within a short time, known as Fox Urine Splinter. It causes day-and-night stinging pain, insomnia, and resists many treatments. Qu氏 took dandelion stems and leaves, broke the root to extract white latex, applied it thickly (about one fen), and cured it instantly. Extremely reliable.
The *Qianjin Fang* treats wind-water invasion after splinter injury.
Scrape powder from the base of arrow feathers, mix, and apply.

Take one liang of wax, heat and iron-wrap the area to induce fluid discharge for healing.
The *Qianjin Fang* states that splinters to hands/feet in August/September causing swelling from evil menses/toxins are life-threatening and must not be ignored. Treatment:
Take three fresh mulberry branches, rub them in ashes until extremely hot, chop them off, and press one end directly onto the sore. Replace when cool. After three branches, the sore will naturally rot. Then crush scallion whites, wrap in cotton, heat in ashes until very hot, remove cotton, apply thin layer to sore, and bind tightly with cloth. Make this if swelling is present; scallion white is best.
The *Qianjin Fang* treats bamboo/wood splinters stuck in skin.
Burn dry sheep dung to ash, mix with pig fat, apply to splinter. If it doesn't come out, reapply until sensation of the splinter disappears and it exits. Alternatively, use dry sheep dung powder.

If no vomit, drink more warm wine until vomiting occurs; adjust wine amount to tolerance. If still stuck, take another piece; it will always work.
