*Lingyuan* records the Longnao Zi Formula for treating epidemic diseases presenting with pea-like sores and red pox that fail to fully erupt, accompanied by mental restlessness, mania, panting, delirious speech, or visual hallucinations of spirits.
The above formula uses one qian of borneol (Bingpian, 冰片), finely ground, then mixed with pig heart blood drop by drop to form pills the size of a cock's head meat. Each dose is one pill, dissolved and taken with a decoction of Arnebiae Radix seu Lithospermi Radix (Zicao, 紫草). Soon after, the mind settles, sleep is achieved, and the pox erupts. Subsequently, maintain peace through routine care. *Huoren Shu* shares this formula, as does *Jifeng Fang* and Qian Yi's formula. Alternatively, take three to five drops of blood from the tip of a young pig's tail, mix with a small amount of raw, ground borneol, and take with newly drawn water; this is named Zhuiwei Gao (Pig Tail Paste). Qian Yi's supplementary formula uses pig heart blood mixed with borneol, taken with newly drawn water. If consciousness is not restored, dissolve in warm wine.
*Tan Shi Shusheng* records the Duoming Gao (Life-Rescuing Paste) for treating pediatric pox where toxic qi fails to disperse and eruption is slow; or when the sores turn black due to taboo.
The above formula uses ripe black bullfruit (Niuzi, 牛李子), harvested within seven to eight days into a basin. Grind to extract juice, filter through raw silk to remove dregs, and store in a silver vessel. Slowly boil down to a paste, store in porcelain, and keep well-ventilated. Each dose is the size of a soap pod, dissolved in apricot gum decoction and taken. After the time it takes a person to walk twenty li, administer another dose. The pox will naturally turn red, and the toxic qi will slowly subside; this medicine is miraculous. It can be used for any pox that fails to erupt quickly. Qian Yi's formula is identical, named Niuzi Gao (Bullfruit Paste) or Bisheng Gao (Certain Victory Paste). It is said that in autumn, the fruit matures into black clusters. If fresh ones are unavailable, buy dried ones from the market, grind to powder, and boil with water as a substitute. Dong Ji treats pediatric pox where malignant signs appear under the skin without erupting, or erupt but do not grow and turn black-purple with sinking; he also uses this medicine. He stated: "In my youth, I suffered from this disease, which was extremely critical. My parents could not bear to watch. Upon meeting Qian Yi, I took this medicine and recovered. I begged for the true formula, which was thus transmitted." However, the timing of collection was unknown, leading to inconsistent efficacy. Now, the collection time is recorded: harvest on the ninth day, grind and filter into paste. For every two liang of paste, add half a qian of high-quality musk (Shexiang, 麝香), store in an airtight container. The *Jiu Weisheng* formula is the same. But it uses half a liang of peach gum and one liang of bullfruit, stir-fried to a coarse powder. Each dose is one qian, boiled in seven parts water until four to five parts remain, strained, and taken warm; the therapeutic effect is the same.
Qian Yi's Baixiang Wan (Hundred-Auspicious Pill) treats pox inversion with black sinking. Also known as Nanyang Wan.
The above formula uses Hongya Daji (Euphorbia humifusa root), regardless of quantity, dried in shade. Boil in starch water until soft, remove the woody core, dry in the sun. Re-boil in the juice until the liquid is exhausted, bake dry, and grind to powder. Make water-honeyed pills the size of millet seeds. Each dose is ten to twenty pills, taken with a decoction of crushed Sesamum indicum (Hongzhima, 黑芝麻). When vomiting and diarrhea cease, it can be taken at any time.
Qian Yi's Lan Gen San (Isatis Root Powder)
Radix Isatidis (Banlangen, 板蓝根) (one liang)
Radix Glycyrrhizae (Gancao, 甘草) (cut, stir-fried, three fen)
Grind both together into fine powder. Each dose is half a qian or one qian, mixed with two or three drops of rooster comb blood and a little warm wine, taken after meals. Do not use these two formulas if the syndrome is absent.
Qian Yi's Supplementary Formula: Sisheng San (Four-Sage Powder) for treating pox that fail to erupt quickly or invert.
Radix Arnebiae seu Lithospermi (Zicao Rong, 紫草茸)
Radix Akebiae (Mutong, 木通) (cut)
Fructus Aurantii (Zhike, 枳壳) (stir-fried with bran, remove pith, weigh)
Radix Astragali (Huangqi, 黄芪) (slice, bake. Equal parts)
Grind all together into a coarse powder. Each dose is one qian, boiled in one zhong of water until eight parts remain. Take warm, at any time.
Qian Yi's Supplementary Formula for treating pox inversion with black sinking.
Human teeth (Ren Ya, 人牙) calcined to retain nature, ground with a small amount of musk (Shexiang, 麝香). Each dose is three qian, taken with a little warm wine, at any time.
Zhang Huan's Shentong San (Spirit-Penetrating Powder) for treating pox with weak toxic qi, normal urination and defecation, and inverted failure to erupt.
Radix Rehmanniae Preparata (Shengsheng Dihuang, 生干地黄) (dry-fried)
Earthworm (Dilong, 地龙) (tight and solid, remove soil, slightly fried. One liang each)
Crush and sieve into fine powder. Next, use good Cinnabar (Zhusha, 朱砂) (one liang, finely ground, levigated with water).
Mix all ingredients evenly. Each dose is one zi, taken with a little decoction of Coriandri Fructus (Huisu Jiu, 胡荽酒) and warm water.
Zhang Huan's Shanzhi Tang (Gardenia Decoction) for treating bran-rash and macular toxins, resembling mosquito or flea bites. If toxic heat is severe and color is black, also take the following Xuan Du Gao.
Fructus Gardeniae (Shanzhizi Ren, 山栀子仁)
Cortex Dictamni (Baixianpi, 白鲜皮)
Radix Paeoniae Rubra (Chishaoyao, 赤芍药)
Radix Cimicifugae (Chuan Shengma, 川升麻) (one liang each)
Lapis Calcitae (Hanshuishi, 寒水石)
Radix Glycyrrhizae (Gancao, 甘草) (honey-fried. Half a liang each)
Crush and sieve into fine powder. Each dose is one qian, boiled in eight-tenths of a zhan of water with a little Radix Arnebiae seu Lithospermi (Zicao, 紫草) and Folium Menthae (Bohe, 薄荷) until five parts remain. Strain, let cool to warm, and take.
Zhang Huan's Xuandu Gao (Toxin-Releasing Paste) for treating severe toxic qi, pox that fail to erupt quickly or invert; take urgently. This has been highly effective.
Pig blood (taken from the tail on the eighth day of the twelfth lunar month, one sheng, stored in a new clay basin)
Good Cinnabar (Zhusha, 朱砂) (finely ground, levigated)
Selected Frankincense (Ruxiang, 乳香) (finely ground. One liang each)
Radix Glycyrrhizae (Gancao, 甘草) (powder)
Natrii Sulfas (Mayaxiao, 马牙硝) (half a liang each)
Borneol and Musk (Naoshé, 脑麝) (finely ground, one fen each)
Mix all ingredients thoroughly with pig blood. Place in a wide, old bamboo tube, leaving one node at the bottom. Put all medicines into the tube, seal with multiple layers of honey-paper, and hang from the beam over a cesspit. On Qingming Festival, take out and dry in the sun. Add one qian each of borneol and musk, grind finely, mix with water to make pills the size of a soap pod. Dissolve in Ginseng Decoction (Renshen Tang, 人参汤) and take. If taken for severe toxicity, black inverted sores, the pox will become red and lively again. Miraculous.
*Rhen Dou Lun* Huadu San (Toxin-Transforming Powder)
Curcumae Radix (Yujin, 郁金) (one piece)
Radix Glycyrrhizae (Gancao, 甘草) (honey-fried, one fen)
Boil with half a bowl of water until dry. Remove Gancao, slice Yujin, dry, and grind to powder. Add half a qian of raw borneol, grind evenly. Mix with raw pig blood to form a thin paste. Dissolve one qian in Mint Decoction (Bohe Tang, 薄荷汤) and take. Within two doses, toxic qi will exit through the palms and soles, and the disease will heal. This is a prognosis of one survivor out of five deaths. If there is bloody stool or necrotic sores without pus, ten out of ten die. Another method: use half a qian of Cicada Slough (Chantui, 蝉蜕) powder, a soap-sized piece of good borneol, and a soap-sized piece of pig heart blood, made into a paste. Take with hot wine-infused Zicao (Arnebiae Radix seu Lithospermi Radix) warmed. After some time, the body will develop high fever, and toxin-sores will erupt suddenly. Then treat according to the syndrome.
*Liang Fang* treats pox about to erupt or already erupted but sunk/inverted; all should be treated promptly. Otherwise, toxin entering the zang organs will cause distress. Take this. (Modifications from *Lingyuan*.)
Take pig blood from the twelfth lunar month, store in a bottle, hang in the wind to dry. Use a piece the size of half a date, add borneol the size of a soybean, dissolve in warm wine and take. Physician Shen adds mung bean pod powder the size of half a date, grinds together; mild cases resolve immediately, severe cases erupt and heal. My young daughter had Shanghan (Cold Damage), severe abdominal pain, crying day and night, cold limbs for several days, gradually becoming confused and lethargic, with very severe symptoms. At that time, pox were expected to erupt. I suspected doctors had suppressed it with medicine. Having not stocked this remedy, I urgently bought a little raw pig blood from a butcher. It was midsummer, and the blood had spoiled and smelled foul. Helplessly, I mixed it with much borneol and forced it down. One dose allowed slight sleep. Soon, her whole body broke out in spots, and she stabilized. Otherwise, she would likely have died.
*Huoren Shu* Wubi San (Peerless Powder) for treating malignant pox signs, slow eruption, black sores, and all malignant conditions.
Cinnabar (Zhusha, 朱砂) (one liang, first ground like powder)
Calculus Bovis (Niuhuang, 牛黄)
Borneol and Musk (Naoshé, 脑麝)
Nifen (Mafen, 腻粉 - Calomel) (one fen each, finely ground)
Grind all together finely. For patients, children take one zi, adults take half a qian. Mix with a little mercury, three to two drops of blood from a young pig's tail, and a little newly drawn water. Take. First, ensure calm sleep, then induce reversal. Passing foul-smelling saliva and evil matter like rotten fish intestines or grape clusters indicates recovery. For children, dripping milk juice is especially excellent.
*Jiu Weisheng* Beijin San (Double-Gold Powder) for treating pediatric pox inversion with black color.
Qiongzhei Zi (Stemona tuberosa seed? Note: Text says 'Qiong Zei Zi', likely a specific local herb or typo for something else, kept as transliteration/phonetic if unsure, but context implies a bitter/cold herb. Given "Qiong Zei", possibly *Stemona* or similar. Let's stick to literal extraction if uncertain, but standard TCM often uses *Stemona*. However, "Qiong Zei" might be a typo for *Qian Niu Zi* or similar. Without external verification, I will list the term as is or note uncertainty. Actually, looking at similar texts, it might be *Qian Niu Zi* or *Tuo Lu Zi*. But strictly extracting: "Qiongzhei Zi". Wait, "Qiong Zei" sounds like "Qian Niu" dialectally? Or maybe *Xiao Bei*? Let's assume it's a specific herb name provided. I will extract "Qiongzhei Zi".) (stir-fried, two liang)
Medicated Leaven (Shenqu, 神曲) (stir-fried, half a liang)
Jianzhang Hua (Unknown flower, likely local)
Shanguozi (Mountain fruit, with kernel. One liang each)
Grind all into a coarse powder. Each dose is one qian, boiled in eight parts water with seven spikes of Schizonepeta (Jingjie, 荆芥) and ten roots of Arnebiae Radix seu Lithospermi Radix (Zicao, 紫草) until four parts remain. Strain and take warm.
*Jubao Fang* Dingming Zhusha San (Life-Determining Cinnabar Powder) for treating pediatric pox where toxic qi does not exit, or turns dry/black after eruption. This medicine releases toxic qi, causing fine red sores to emerge.
Cinnabar (Zhusha, 朱砂) (half a liang)
Raw Borneol (Longnao, 龙脑)
Dripping Frankincense (Di Ruxiang, 滴乳香)
Natrii Sulfas (Mayaxiao, 马牙硝) (These four are ground separately)
Radix Glycyrrhizae (Gancao, 甘草) (powder. One qian each)
Grind the five ingredients evenly. Mix with half a sheng of fresh pig blood from the twelfth lunar month. Take a green bamboo tube two chi long, keeping nodes at both ends, open one end to create an aperture, pour medicine in, seal with yellow wax, wrap tightly with oiled silk to prevent air leakage. Bury in a pit for 105 days, then take out, wash, and hang in the wind. After 49 days, split open, retrieve medicine, grind to fine powder. Each dose is half a qian, taken with newly drawn water.
*Jubao Fang* Disheng Wan (Sage-Attaining Pill) for treating pediatric macular sores that fail to erupt and instead sink inward.
Take the left wing of an old crow from the twelfth lunar month, dry in the wind, burn to ash on a Chen day. Mix with blood pricked from the mouth of a medium-sized pig to form pills the size of a cock's head. Each dose is one pill, taken with a little blood from a young pig's tail and warm water. If ineffective, take another dose after two or three hours.
Dong Ji's Jiusheng San (Life-Saving Powder) for pediatric pox with pustules, malignant signs, critical condition, and black sinking.
Pig blood (stored in a new clay jar in the twelfth lunar month, hung in the shade on the east side of the house to dry, then powdered)
Natrii Sulfas (Mayaxiao, 马牙硝) (ground. One liang each)
Borax (Pengsha, 硼砂)
Cinnabar (Zhusha, 朱砂)
Calculus Bovis (Niuhuang, 牛黄)
Borneol and Musk (Naoshé, 脑麝) (one qian each)
Grind all extremely fine. For every two years of age, take one qian, dissolved in newly drawn water. Pass foul matter in stool; stop when sores turn red. No more than two doses; extremely effective.
Dong Ji's Dai Mao San (Horned Turtle Powder) for pediatric pox with internal attack of heat-toxin, purple-black color, and slow eruption.
Use raw Horned Turtle Shell (Daimao, 玳瑁) ground in water to extract thick juice, one he. Take one pig heart, extract central blood the size of a soap pod, grind together. Mix with strong decoction of Arnebiae Radix seu Lithospermi Radix (Zicao, 紫草) and take as one dose.
*Zhang Shi Jia Chuan* Wei Ai San (Stomach-Loving Powder) for regulating pediatric spleen deficiency with vomiting and diarrhea. If macular sores fail to erupt, and physicians do not recognize the signs, using cold medicines may freeze the sores, causing them to sink and not erupt. Regulate with this Wei Ai San. If the body sweats, do not use Kongxin San (Heart-Controlling Powder) to induce sweat. If no sweat, use Kongxin San to induce sweat, then administer Qianghuo San (Notopterygium Powder) and Wei Ai San. (See Qianghuo San and Kongxin San formulas in the section on pox already erupted but not yet fully opened.)
Glutinous Rice (Nuomi, 糯米) (one liang)
Dried Papaya (Gan Dan Mugua, 干淡木瓜) (three fen)
Radix Glycyrrhizae (Gancao, 甘草) (one fen)
Caryophylli Flos (Dingxiang, 丁香) (25 buds. Stir-fry these four ingredients together until golden brown)
Vetiveria Rhizoma (Huoxiang, 藿香 - Text says Huoxiang Cai)
Perillae Folium (Zisu Ye, 紫苏叶) (one fen each)
Dry all ingredients together, grind to fine powder. Each dose is one qian or half a qian, taken with a decoction of millet and jujube.
*Zhang Shi Jia Chuan* Tuoke San (Shell-Shedding Powder)
Take eggshells from hatched chickens, bake on new tiles until dry, remove membrane, crush and grind to powder. For pediatric macular sores that invert and fail to erupt, or black fecal blood/feces, head sores, lethargy and unconsciousness, mix one zi with wine, apply to child's lips, let child lick. Or mix with wine and apply to Fengchi (GB20), back, and anterior chest. This is named Tuoke San. Alternatively, mix one zi with hot water and ingest.
*Zhang Shi Jia Chuan* Another Formula: Huaban San (Macule-Transforming Powder)
Gypsum Fibrosum (Shigao, 石膏) (calcined in fire, or wrapped in wet paper and roasted until penetrating, then ground; or baked in mud ball, take out, remove fire toxicity, grind to fine powder)
Anemarrhenae Rhizoma (Zhimu, 知母) (slice, bake dry, grind to fine powder)
Equal parts. Mix with cooked water, take one zi, or mix with wine and apply to lips. Relieves headache and clears confusion, promotes eruption of sores. This is named Gaomu Huaban San. Treats pediatric macular sores. These two formulas are excellent. The subsequent formula may be too cold.
*Zhang Shi Jia Chuan* Zicao Tang (Arnebia Decoction) for treating pediatric rash/pox turning black. (Formula seen in section on pox failing to erupt. Same as *Yangsheng Biyong Fang*.)
*Zhuang Shi Jia Chuan*: Pediatric pox that invert and fail to erupt.

*Zhuang Shi Jia Chuan* Another Formula
Red Horse Manure (Chimafen, 赤马粪) (dried)
