According to "Chao Shi Bing Yuan" (Source of Diseases by Chao): Infantile abdominal pain is mostly caused by cold or heat pathogenic qi clashing with the internal organ qi, resulting in pain. In cases of heat-induced pain, the face turns red, or there is high fever, restlessness of the four limbs, and heat in the palms and soles; this is heat pain. In cases of cold-induced pain, the complexion may be green or white, and in severe cases, even black, with the lips, mouth, and nails turning blue; this is cold pain.
Master Mao's poem on infantile middle-heat pain:
Redness of the face at inappropriate times, high fever and limb restlessness,
Heat predominates in the palms and soles, burning pain in the heart is hard to bear.
Master Mao's poem on infantile middle-cold pain:
A green or white complexion is acceptable, but if it is black and the nails are also green,
This is cold pain arising from the abdomen; one must use warm medicines to attack it from within.
From "Ying Tong Bao Jian", a song regarding infantile abdominal pain, hypochondriac fullness, and anorexia:
The root cause in the abdomen is originally cold, which leads to pain.
If excess pathogens combine with flourishing heat, there is hypochondriac fullness and low spirit.
Urination and defecation become obstructed, and solid matter stagnates in the abdomen.
The spleen has pre-existing cold, causing the child to refuse food upon smelling it.
Flesh wastes away due to this, with nutritive qi declining and uneven distribution.
If such a condition occurs, do not let it linger long.
From "Ying Tong Bao Jian", a song on infantile abdominal hardness:
During pregnancy, several taboos must be observed first,
Do not allow wind and cold to cause fetal coldness.
After birth, the infant vomits and rejects milk,
Frequent abdominal pain results in a hard abdomen.
From "Ge Shi Zhou Hou", the recluse's effective prescription for infantile night crying, fright, and restlessness, which is caused by abdominal pain, worsening at night, resembling a ghostly affliction.
