《圣惠》∶夫小儿肺脏壅滞，有积热上攻于脑，则令脑热也。又肺气通于鼻，主于涕。若其脏有热，则津液
干燥，故令无涕也。
《圣惠》治小儿脑热无涕，口干心躁，眠卧不安，宜服木通散方
木通（锉） 麦门冬（焙，去心） 川升麻（各半两） 知母 犀角（屑） 甘草（炙、微赤，锉） 杏仁（汤浸，
去皮尖、双仁，麸炒微黄。各一分） 栀子仁（三枚）
上件药捣，粗罗为散。每服一钱，以水一小盏，煎至五分，去滓，不计时候。量儿大小，以意加减温服。
《圣惠》治小儿肺壅热，脑干无涕，时有烦躁。牛黄散方
牛黄（细研） 甘草（炙微赤，锉。各一分） 麦门冬（一两，去心，焙） 黄连（去须） 赤茯苓 犀角（屑） 铅
霜朱砂 龙脑（各细研） 川升麻 马牙硝 子芩（各半两）
上件药捣，细罗为散，入研了药，都研令匀。不计时候，用温蜜水调下半钱。量儿大小以意加减。

射干 川升麻 麦门冬（去心，焙） 柴胡（去苗。各半两） 黄连（去须） 犀角（屑） 子芩 甘草（炙微赤，
锉。各一分）
上件药捣，粗罗为散。每服一钱，以水一小盏，煎至五分，去滓。量儿大小，不计时候，加减温服。

《圣惠》治小儿脑热鼻干，宜用贴顶散方
芒硝 黄柏（锉。各一分） 地胆草 地龙粪（各半两）
上件药捣，细罗为散。以猪胆汁和，捏作饼子两枚，更互贴于囟门上。
《圣惠》治小儿脑热无涕吹鼻散方
蟾酥（一小豆大） 硝石 蚺蛇胆（各一分）
上细研如粉。每取少许，吹入鼻中尤良。
《婴孺》治小儿鼻干身热方。
上取韭根杵汁澄之，滴黑豆大内鼻中，立止。不可多用。
张涣犀角升麻散方 治脑热、肺壅鼻干病。
犀角（末，一两） 川升麻 马牙硝 黄连（各半两）
以上捣、罗为细末。次用∶朱砂（细研，水飞，半两） 牛黄 龙脑（各一分。细研）
上件药捣，罗为细末。每服半钱，温蜜汤调下，乳食后。
《万全方》治小儿心肺壅热，脑干无涕，时有烦躁。麦门冬丸
麦门冬（去心，焙，一两） 龙脑（细研，半分） 甘草（炙） 犀角（屑） 粉霜 朱砂 马牙硝（各研） 生
干地黄 子芩（各半两） 黄连 赤茯苓 牛黄（研入。各一分）
上件药捣，罗为末，入研了药都研令匀。每服半钱，以温蜜水调下。
*Shenghui Fang* records: In children, if the Lung organ is obstructed with stagnant Qi and accumulated Heat attacks upward to the brain, it causes Brain Heat. Furthermore, Lung Qi connects to the nose and governs nasal discharge. If there is Heat within the Zang organs, body fluids become dry, thus leading to a lack of nasal discharge.
**Mutong San (Akebia Decoction Powder)** from *Shenghui Fang*, for treating Brain Heat without nasal discharge, dry mouth, restlessness, and disturbed sleep in children:
Mu Tong (Caulis Akebiae, sliced), Maidong (Radix Ophiopogonis, roasted, heart removed), Chuan Shengma (Rhizoma Cimicifugae, each 0.5 liang), Zhimu (Rhizoma Anemarrhenae), Xijiao (Cornu Rhinocerotis, sliced into flakes), Gancao (Radix Glycyrrhizae, honey-fried until slightly red, sliced), Xingren (Semen Armeniacae Amarum, soaked in water, skin and tips removed, double-kernel seeds discarded, stir-fried with bran until slightly yellow, each 1 fen), Zhizi Ren (Semen Gardenolia, 3 pieces).
Crush the above herbs, sift coarsely to make a powder. Take 1 qian per dose, decoct with one small cup of water until reduced to half a cup, strain, and take warm at any time. Adjust dosage according to the child's age.
**Niuhuang San (Calculus Bovis Decoction Powder)** from *Shenghui Fang*, for treating Lung obstruction with Heat, dry brain without nasal discharge, and occasional irritability in children:
Niuhuang (Calculus Bovis, finely ground), Gancao (Radix Glycyrrhizae, honey-fried until slightly red, sliced, each 1 fen), Maidong (Radix Ophiopogonis, 1 liang, heart removed, roasted), Huanglian (Rhizoma Coptidis, whiskers removed), Chifuling (Poria Cum Radix Pini, red variety), Xijiao (Cornu Rhinocerotis, sliced into flakes), Qianshuang (Plumbum Subacetatum), Zhusha (Cinnabaris), Longnao (Borneolum Syntheticum, each finely ground), Chuan Shengma (Rhizoma Cimicifugae), Yaxiaoxiao (Natrii Sulfas Crystallizatus), Ziqin (Radix Scutellariae, each 0.5 liang).
Crush the above herbs, sift finely to make a powder, add the pre-ground ingredients, and grind uniformly. Take 0.5 qian per dose mixed with warm honey water at any time. Adjust dosage according to the child's age.
**Tianmendong San (Asparagi Radix Decoction Powder)** from *Shenghui Fang*, for treating Lung obstruction with Brain Heat, dry nose without nasal discharge, constipation, and restless sleep in children:
Tianmendong (Radix Asparagi, heart removed, roasted), Chuan Dahuang (Radix et Rhizoma Rhei, sliced, lightly stir-fried, each 0.5 liang), Sanggenbaipi (Cortex Mor radicis), Chuan Shengma (Rhizoma Cimicifugae), Zhike (Fructus Aurantii, stir-fried with bran until slightly yellow, pith removed), Gancao (Radix Glycyrrhizae, honey-fried until slightly red, sliced, each 1 fen).
Crush the above herbs, sift coarsely to make a powder. Take 1 qian per dose, decoct with one small cup of water until reduced to half a cup, strain, and take warm at any time. Reduce the dose according to the child's age.
**Shegan San (Belamcandae Rhizoma Decoction Powder)** from *Shenghui Fang*, for treating Lung and Heart obstruction with Heat, dry nose without nasal discharge, throat discomfort, and poor appetite in children:
Shegan (Rhizoma Belamcandae), Chuan Shengma (Rhizoma Cimicifugae), Maidong (Radix Ophiopogonis, heart removed, roasted), Chaihu (Radix Bupleuri, roots removed, each 0.5 liang), Huanglian (Rhizoma Coptidis, whiskers removed), Xijiao (Cornu Rhinocerotis, sliced into flakes), Ziqin (Radix Scutellariae), Gancao (Radix Glycyrrhizae, honey-fried until slightly red, sliced, each 1 fen).
Crush the above herbs, sift coarsely to make a powder. Take 1 qian per dose, decoct with one small cup of water until reduced to half a cup, strain. Take warm at any time, adjusting dosage according to the child's age.
**Xijiao San (Cornu Rhinocerotis Decoction Powder)** from *Shenghui Fang*, for treating Lung Qi obstruction, Brain Heat with dry nose, mental irritability, and dysfunction of the Large and Small Intestines in children:
Xijiao (Cornu Rhinocerotis, sliced into flakes), Maidong (Radix Ophiopogonis, heart removed, roasted), Chuan Dahuang (Radix et Rhizoma Rhei, sliced, lightly stir-fried), Huangqi (Radix Astragali, sliced, each 0.5 liang), Chi Shaoyao (Radix Paeoniae Rubra), Mutong (Caulis Akebiae, sliced), Zhike (Fructus Aurantii, stir-fried with bran until slightly yellow, pith removed), Gancao (Radix Glycyrrhizae, honey-fried until slightly red, sliced, each 1 fen).
Crush the above herbs, sift coarsely to make a powder. Take 1 qian per dose, decoct with one small cup of water until reduced to half a cup, strain. Take warm at any time, adjusting dosage according to the child's age.
**Tieding San (Scalp-Adhesion Powder)** from *Shenghui Fang*, for treating Brain Heat with dry nose in children:
Mangxiao (Natrii Sulfas), Huangbai (Cortex Phellodendri, sliced, each 1 fen), Dichangcao (Herba Oldenlandiae), Dilongfen (Excrement of Earthworm, each 0.5 liang).
Crush the above herbs, sift finely to make a powder. Mix with pig bile to form two cakes, and apply alternately to the fontanelle.
**Chuibi San (Nose-Blowing Powder)** from *Shenghui Fang*, for treating Brain Heat without nasal discharge in children:
Chansu (Venenum Bufonis, size of a small bean), Xiaoshi (Nitrums), Ranshedan (Gall of Python, each 1 fen).
Grind finely into powder. Blow a small amount into the nose; this is highly effective.
**Recipe for Dry Nose and Fever in Children** from *Yingru Shu*:
Take juice from Chinese Leek roots, crush and clarify it. Instill a drop the size of a black soybean into the nostril; symptoms stop immediately. Do not use too much.
**Xijiao Shengma San (Cornu Rhinocerotis and Cimicifugae Decoction Powder)** by Zhang Huan, for treating Brain Heat, Lung obstruction, and dry nose:
Xijiao (Cornu Rhinocerotis, powdered, 1 liang), Chuan Shengma (Rhizoma Cimicifugae), Yaxiaoxiao (Natrii Sulfas Crystallizatus), Huanglian (Rhizoma Coptidis, each 0.5 liang).
Crush and sift the above into fine powder. Then add: Zhusha (Cinnabaris, finely ground, washed with water, 0.5 liang), Niuhuang (Calculus Bovis), Longnao (Borneolum Syntheticum, each 1 fen, finely ground).
Grind all together into fine powder. Take 0.5 qian after milk or food, mixed with warm honey water.
**Maidong Wan (Ophiopogon Pill)** from *Wanquan Fang*, for treating Lung and Heart obstruction with Heat, dry brain without nasal discharge, and occasional irritability in children:
Maidong (Radix Ophiopogonis, heart removed, roasted, 1 liang), Longnao (Borneolum Syntheticum, finely ground, 0.5 fen), Gancao (Radix Glycyrrhizae, honey-fried), Xijiao (Cornu Rhinocerotis, sliced into flakes), Fenshuang (Hydrargyri Oxydum Rubrum), Zhusha (Cinnabaris), Yaxiaoxiao (Natrii Sulfas Crystallizatus, each ground), Sheng Dihuang (Radix Rehmanniae Recens), Ziqin (Radix Scutellariae, each 0.5 liang), Huanglian (Rhizoma Coptidis), Chifuling (Poria Cum Radix Pini, red variety), Niuhuang (Calculus Bovis, added after grinding, each 1 fen).
Grind all into powder, mix thoroughly with the pre-ground ingredients. Take 0.5 qian per dose, mixed with warm honey water.
