If a child vomits without external signs of heat or thirst, with a pale face and lips, listless spirit, and timid breath, this is cold-type vomiting. Treatment: Take a large piece of Shengjiang (Fresh Ginger), slice it straight into thin slices without breaking them. Layer the slices with salt, bind tightly with hemp rope, wrap in seven layers of straw paper, wet the paper, and slow-roast until cooked. Remove, discard the rope and paper, mash the ginger, and decoct with early rice to make a soup. Drink immediately to stop vomiting.
If a child suddenly vomits continuously: Treatment: Extract natural juice from Shengjiang (Fresh Ginger), one cup, boil and set aside; refine Si Mi (Honey), four liang, and set aside. For each dose, mix one spoonful of ginger juice with two spoonfuls of honey, take with warm water. Repeat five to six times daily for effectiveness.
If a child suffers from vomiting due to Stomach heat, manifested by a red face, restlessness, body heat with thirst, and heat in the palms and soles, this is heat-type vomiting. Treatment: Huanglian (Coptis Rhizome, 1 qian, stir-fried with Ginger Juice) and Shu Shigao (Prepared Gypsum Fibrosum, 1 qian) are ground into a fine powder. Take 1 qian per dose, mixed with warm water. After vomiting stops, continue medication. Additionally, roast Pi Pa Ye (Loquat Leaf) over fire, brush off hairs, use three leaves per dose, decoct in water, and take hot to stop vomiting immediately.
Dry heaving in children is an extremely difficult condition. Treatment: Prepare juice from Gan Zhe (Sugarcane) and juice from Shengjiang (Fresh Ginger). Before administration, mix six spoonfuls of sugarcane juice with two spoonfuls of ginger juice, warm and take evenly. Do not dilute with water.
In cases where vomiting patients cannot retain medicine, it is often because Ascaris (roundworms) are present in the diaphragm area. The worms move upon smelling the medicine, causing the medicine to be expelled while the worms remain. Simply add fourteen grains of Chuanjiao (Sichuan Pepper) to the anti-emetic medicine, and vomiting will cease, as the worms subside upon encountering pepper.
To treat all types of regurgitation and vomiting in children, regardless of cold or heat, and for chronic vomiting unresponsive to various medicines: Treatment: Mix Liu Huang (Sulfur, 5 qian) and Shui Yin (Mercury, 1 qian), grinding together until no silver specks are visible. Form pills using Ginger Juice and rice paste, sized like small beans. Children aged three take three pills; adults take thirty to forty pills. Wash down with Yin-Yang Water (a mixture of fresh and boiled water). If these two ingredients are increased in proportion, sealed in a Yangcheng jar, and refined over charcoal fire, they become Lingsha (Spirit Sand), a substance used by Daoist immortals. It can best regulate the ascending and descending of Yin and Yang, harmonizing Water and Fire, serving as a miraculous elixir to rescue critical conditions.
