Why does an infant suffer from incessant vomiting? It is caused by the retention of foul substances in the stomach. This may stem from congenital endowment resulting in fetal cold or heat, or from contracting wind-cold at birth. For vomiting due to retained foulness, Yi Nian Jin San (One-Pinch Gold Powder) is used; for external contraction of wind-cold, Xiang Su Yin (Fragrant Perilla Decoction) is used to warm and disperse; for phlegm-heat manifesting as sour, sticky saliva, Er Chen Tang (Two-Aged Decoction) with Huang Lian (Coptis Rhizome) is employed; for cold vomiting with clear, thin froth, Li Zhong Tang (Regulate the Middle Decoction) is indicated.
[Note] After leaving the womb, if an infant suffers from constipation and incomplete evacuation of intestinal waste, leading to abdominal distension and incessant vomiting, Yi Nian Jin (One-Pinch Pill) is the primary treatment. If cold pathogens were contracted during delivery and invaded the interior affecting the Stomach, causing the infant to cry with a curved waist and vomit froth incessantly, Xiang Su Yin (Fragrant Perilla Decoction) is used to warm and disperse. Additionally, if heat was accumulated prenatally, presenting with a yellow-red complexion, warm hands and feet, and vomiting of yellow, sour, sticky saliva, Er Chen Tang (Two-Aged Decoction) added with Huang Lian (Coptis Rhizome) is prescribed. If cold was accumulated prenatally, presenting with a cyan-white complexion, cold limbs, and vomiting of clear, thin white froth, Li Zhong Tang (Regulate the Middle Decoction) is prescribed.

Urination obstruction is due to fetal heat stagnation; follow the principles of Dao Chi San (Guide Out Red Powder) and Ba Zheng San (Eight-Upright Powder). Externally, apply Dou Chi Paste (Fermented Soybean Paste) to the umbilicus; urination will naturally flow shortly.
[Note] Newborns who do not urinate initially do so because fetal heat flows downward. Dao Chi San (Guide Out Red Powder) is appropriate. If heat is severe, Ba Zheng San (Eight-Upright Powder) is the primary treatment. Applying Dou Chi Gao (Fermented Soybean Paste) externally to the umbilicus allows urination to flow naturally.
Dao Chi San (Guide Out Red Powder)
