Xin Gan (Heart Caloric Disease) is characterized by redness of the face and meridians, high fever with sweating, frequent irritability and fright, teeth grinding, tongue protrusion, dry mouth and thirst, sores on the mouth and tongue, red urine, chest and diaphragm fullness and discomfort, a preference for sleeping in a prone position, anorexia, emaciation, or frequent vomiting and diarrhea. Treatment involves Xie Xin Dao Chi Tang (Drain Heart and Guide Out Redness Decoction) and Zhen Zhu San (Pearl Powder), followed by Fu Shen Tang (Poria Decoction) for regulation to achieve therapeutic success.
[Note] The Heart belongs to Fire in the Five Elements, its color is red, and it governs the blood vessels. Therefore, patients with Xin Gan present with facial redness, redness of the ocular meridians, high fever with sweating, frequent fright and irritability, teeth grinding, tongue protrusion, dry mouth and tongue, sores caused by excessive drinking due to thirst, red urine, chest and diaphragm fullness, a preference for prone sleeping, reduced appetite, emaciation, or symptoms of vomiting or diarrhea. If heat is intense, Xie Xin Dao Chi Tang (Drain Heart and Guide Out Redness Decoction) is the primary formula; if heat is intense accompanied by fright, Zhen Zhu San (Pearl Powder) is used; if the disease has persisted for a long time leading to Heart deficiency, Fu Shen Tang (Poria Decoction) is used for regulation.
Xie Xin Dao Chi Tang (See "Mu She" / Wooden Tongue chapter for the formula).

Consumption of rich, sweet, and fatty foods leads to accumulated heat damaging body fluids, manifesting as extreme thirst with copious drinking, and mental irritability and heat. Quickly use Qing Re Gan Lu Yin (Heat-Clearing Sweet Dew Drink); once heat subsides and fluids regenerate, thirst will naturally cease.
[Note] Gan Ke (Caloric Thirst) is mostly caused by accumulated heat from rich and sweet foods frying and consuming the Spleen and Stomach, resulting in fluid depletion. Thus, there is frequent extreme thirst with desire to drink, and mental irritability and heat. Quickly using Qing Re Gan Lu Yin (Heat-Clearing Sweet Dew Drink) will cure the thirst.
