Pediatric patients suffering from Gan disease (nutritional impairment) present with body fever; the severity and deficiency-excess nature must be differentiated. Qinghao Yin (Artemisia Annua Decoction) is suitable for the initial stage, while Biejia San (Turtle Shell Powder) is most effective for prolonged illness.
[Note] The syndrome of Gan disease often involves body fever. Practitioners should treat based on differentiation of severity and deficiency-excess patterns. Early-stage cases, mostly excess in nature, are primarily treated with Biejia Qinghao Yin (Turtle Shell and Artemisia Annua Decoction); long-standing cases, mostly deficiency in nature, are primarily treated with Biejia San (Turtle Shell Powder).

Nao Gan (Brain Gan) often arises from contracting wind-heat pathogens, compounded by improper breastfeeding or feeding regulation. Symptoms include shiny and tight scalp with "pancake sores" (bi chuang), hot head with dry, matted hair resembling grain ears, dry nose, irritability, swelling of cheeks and fontanelles, fatigue, dim vision, sweating, and body heat. Long Dan Wan (Gentian Pill) and Long Nao Wan (Borneol Pill) are highly effective; blowing Long Nao San (Borneol Powder) into the nose yields rapid results.
[Note] Nao Gan occurs because the child has previously been affected by wind-heat, combined with irregular feeding, leading to this syndrome. Manifestations include shiny and tight scalp, pancake sores on the brain/head area, hot head with dry hair, hair matted like tufts, dry nose, irritability, hardness and swelling of cheeks and fontanelles, fatigue, dim eyes, spontaneous sweating, and body heat. For brain heat causing sores, Long Dan Wan is indicated; for irritability, fever, and emaciation, Long Nao Wan is indicated. Externally, apply Long Nao San via nasal insufflation, and the condition will resolve spontaneously.
