In spring and summer, decoctions should preferably use Menthae Haplocalycis Herba (Bohe, 薄荷). In autumn and winter, Aucklandiae Radix (Muxiang, 木香) is used. For cough with loud phlegm rattle, add Allii Tuberosi Bulbus (Congbai, 葱白) and Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens (Shengjiang, 生姜). Moschus (Shexiang, 麝香) is excellent for unblocking orifices. Add a small amount of oil to moisturize the skin. Divide the decoction into four parts and six parts, leaving some remainder. (For pediatric massage techniques: although it is said there are three hundred methods for a one-year-old child, the force should be light at four parts and heavy at six parts, to allow for adjustment.) It is not difficult to know how to adjust based on trial symptoms. Thus, efficacy is easier to achieve.
Throughout the four seasons, decoct Allii Tuberosi Bulbus (Congbai, 葱白) and Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens (Shengjiang, 生姜), add a little oil and Moschus (Shexiang, 麝香), and perform massage.
Yin-Yang refers to the area below the palm. The right side is Yin Chi acupoint, and the left side is Yang Chi acupoint. These points are located where the child's four fingers are bent into a fist, which corresponds to the location of Xiao Tian Xin (Little Heavenly Heart) in Kan Gong. Use both thumbs of the practitioner to push apart from Xiao Tian Xin. Since most diseases in children are caused by disharmony of Qi and Blood, all massage methods must begin with separating Yin and Yang. This is the key principle of various symptoms and the precursor to all methods. Pushing this area not only harmonizes Qi and Blood but can also treat conditions such as abdominal distension and diarrhea, deficiency of the five zang and six fu organs, obstruction of urination and defecation, wind-stroke with convulsions, and wheezing due to phlegm. It is particularly suitable for alternating chills and fever. When heat predominates, push Yang heavily; when cold predominates, push Yin heavily. The practitioner must carefully assess the severity and apply the method accordingly. For any condition, this method must be used first. During its application, the physician can observe the complexion and listen to the voice, inquire about the cause, and deliberate on the appropriate technique.
He (Joining) involves bringing the two thumbs together from the Yin-Yang area. This is because when phlegm-saliva surges excessively, one should first pinch the Kidney meridian to obtain cooling (the original text says 'heat', which is likely an error). Then, join Yin and Yang and push vigorously along the River Water channel, causing the phlegm to dissipate.
Because there is a large Tian Xin on the forehead, the area between Yin and Yang is named Xiao Tian Xin (Little Heavenly Heart). It borders Kan Water (Kidney). If urine is red and yellow, kneading this point clears the fire of the Kidney water. If the eyes roll upward, pinching this point is very effective. If rotating around Tian Xin, it is already included within the Yin-Yang separation method.
The Eight Trigrams are located on the palm. Below the base of the middle finger is Li Palace, which belongs to Heart Fire. This palace should not be moved, lest it disturb Heart Fire. To move it, the practitioner must press down with the thumb, then use the tip of the index finger to rotate counter-clockwise from Qian Palace towards Dui Kun (little finger side) to Kan, returning to Qian, constituting one rotation. When reaching Li Palace, pass over the thumbnail. This method opens the chest and resolves phlegm, removing qi stagnation, fullness, and distension. Regarding vomiting of milk and food, there is a method of nine heavy and three light strokes. After separating Yin and Yang, the physician must proceed to this method.
