The Five Channels refer to the meridians located at the tips of the five fingers. The Heart Channel is located on the ring finger (Jiang Zhi). The Liver Channel is located on the index finger. The Spleen Channel is located on the thumb. The Lung Channel is located on the ring finger. The Kidney Channel is located on the little finger. The "Yun" (Circular Motion) technique involves using the practitioner's index finger to perform circular motions on the fleshy pads of the child's five fingertips. This method can treat constipation and urinary retention, relieve stuffiness in the throat and chest/diaphragm, as well as symptoms such as abdominal borborygmus, abdominal distension, wheezing, and diarrhea. This is because the Qi of the Five Viscera can be unblocked and facilitated through movement.
Here, "Earth" refers to Stomach Earth. It is located above the Men point, belonging to the Gen Palace (a Bagua direction). "Water" refers to Kidney Water. It is located slightly on the outer side of the little finger. The "Yun" technique involves using the practitioner's thumb to push from the tip of the child's little finger towards the Kan Palace and Gen Palace. This method can treat constipation and urinary retention, physical weakness with visible green veins on the abdomen, dysentery, and various diarrheal diseases. This is because when Kidney Water is excessive and Spleen/Stomach Earth is dry, the Yun technique moistens it. Frequent movement of urination yields significant effects.
Here, "Earth" refers to Spleen Earth. It is located on the thumb. "Water" refers to Kan Water (Kidney Water). It is located above the Xiaotianxin point. The "Yun" technique pushes from the thumb upwards towards the Kan Palace. This is indicated for cases of distension in the Dantian and open eyes (possibly indicating convulsions or restlessness), which belong to the pattern of Excessive Spleen Earth and Dry Kidney Water; the Yun technique nourishes the Kidney Water. It is highly effective for severe constipation.
The Large Intestine point is located on the outer side of the child's index finger. The Hukou point is located in the webbing between the thumb and index finger. The "Side Push" technique involves the practitioner using their thumb to push from the lateral side of the child's index finger tip towards the Hukou point. This is because red-and-white dysentery and watery diarrhea are all diseases of the Large Intestine; this point must be pushed to stop diarrhea and tonify the Large Intestine. It also clears Fire from the Liver and Gallbladder. This technique requires considerable effort. If the condition is constipation due to Large Intestine Fire, pushing the Liuzu (Six Fu) points is sufficient, and pushing the Large Intestine point is unnecessary.
The Spleen Earth point is located on the whorl of the thumb. For boys, rotating counter-clockwise is the Tonification method; for girls, rotating clockwise is the Tonification method. However, Cheng Gongquan stated that it is better to flex the child's thumb and push inward for Tonification, and push outward straight for Clearing. This is because children with physical weakness and poor milk/food intake benefit significantly from this technique. For conditions involving phlegm and food stagnation, one must first Clear and then Tonify. In summary, the human body relies primarily on Spleen Earth. Pushing Spleen Earth focuses mainly on Tonification. Clearing helps restore consciousness, while Tonification promotes dietary intake. All things grow from the earth; Spleen Earth is the root of the body and a crucial aspect of treating disease.
