[Shi] A miraculous prescription for treating slow convulsion (Man Jing). Use one clove (Dingxiang), one scorpion (Quanxie), one "zi" (approx. 0.3-0.5g) of cinnabar (Chensha), and a drop of human blood. Grind the above ingredients into fine powder. For boys, use blood from the left middle finger; for girls, use blood from the right middle finger. Dip the powder in the blood and rub it on the lips to cure.
[Ben] Xingpi Wan (Spleen-Awakening Pill): Treats pediatric slow spleen wind (Man Pi Feng), characterized by weakness, drowsiness, and impending wind-phlegm seizures following vomiting and diarrhea.
Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex (Noupu), Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma (Baizhu), Sulfur (Liu Huang - boiled in tofu for 3-5 boils), Gastrodiae Rhizoma (Tianma), Scorpio (Quanxie), Saposhnikoviae Radix (Fangfeng), Cinnamomi Cortex (Guangui), Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma (Renshen) (each 1 qian).
Grind into fine powder, moisten with wine and steamed dough pill, size of a corn kernel. Take one pill per dose, crush it, and swallow with warm rice water.
Xie Shao Wan: Treats pediatric fetal deficiency and weak qi, vomiting and diarrhea generating wind, lethargy, or tidal spasms.
Scorpio (Quanxie) (lightly fried), Typhonii Rhizoma (Baifuzi) (roasted until cracked, each 0.5 liang), Sulfur (Liu Huang), Pinelliae Rhizoma (Banxia) (processed with ginger juice, dried, each 1 liang).
Grind into powder, bind with ginger juice paste into pills the size of hemp seeds. Take 30 pills per dose with Schizonepetae Decoction (Jingjie Tang). Adjust dosage according to the child's age.
[Shi] Prescription for pediatric slow convulsion with cold body and spasms:
Gastrodiae Rhizoma (Tianma), Saposhnikoviae Radix (Fangfeng), Aconiti Lateralis Radix Preparata (Chuanwu), Scorpio (Quanxie) (remove wings and feet, stir-fry wrapped in Mentha Haplocalyx leaves), Arisaematis Rhizoma (Nanxing).
Cut into pieces, equal parts, decoct in water and take orally.
Dr. Tang's prescription for slow convulsion:
Real Chuanwu (one piece, peeled, raw), Scorpio (Quanxie) (equal parts).
Cut into pieces. Divide into two doses. Decoct with two cups of water and ten slices of ginger until half a cup remains. Drip slowly into the mouth.
[Wu] Yin epilepsy is synonymous with slow convulsion.
Aconiti Radix (Hei Fuzi) (raw, peel and navel removed), Arisaematis Rhizoma (Nanxing) (raw), Pinelliae Rhizoma (Banxia) (each 2 qian), Typhonii Rhizoma (Baifuzi) (1.5 qian).
Grind finely. Soak in well water for seven days, changing water daily. After soaking, drain, add Cinnabar (Zhusha, 2 qian) and Moschus (Shexiang, 1 qian), grind uniformly. Take one "zi" per dose, mixed with Mint Decoction (Bohe Tang). Adjust dosage based on the child. Another method: Use raw Hei Fuzi, peeled and navels removed, ground to powder. Take 2 qian per dose, decoct with one and a half cups of water and two slices of ginger until half a cup remains. Divide into two doses. Add five cloves (Dingxiang) if vomiting occurs. Take on an empty stomach. Alternatively, soak cooked wheat cake in water, make pills the size of millet grains, take 20 pills with Ginger Decoction.
[Qian] Huisheng San: Treats pediatric vomiting and diarrhea, or slow convulsion caused by spleen deficiency and wind generation due to accidental ingestion of cold medicines. Select large Arisaematis Rhizoma (Nanxing) weighing over 8-9 qian. Dig a pit about three inches deep. Heat five jin of charcoal until red, pour half a cup of good wine into the pit, then place the Nanxing inside. Cover the pit with two or three charcoal sticks. Wait until the Nanxing cracks slightly, remove it, chop it, and stir-fry until evenly cooked and thoroughly done (ensure no rawness remains). Cool down and grind into powder. Take half a qian per dose, mixed with strongly brewed Ginger and Saposhnikoviae Decoction.
Another formula: Zibo San
Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex (Noupu), Pinelliae Rhizoma (Banxia) (boiled water washed seven times, soaked in ginger juice for half a day, dried, 1 qian).
Soak the above in three sheng of rice washing water for 100 ke (ancient time unit). Stop when water is exhausted. If water remains after 100 ke, boil gently to dry. Remove Noupu, grind only Banxia into powder. Take 0.5 qian or one "zi" per dose, mixed with Mint Decoction (Bohe Tang). No specific timing.
Doujuan San: Treats pediatric slow convulsion, often caused by overly warm medicinal properties or heat-clearing treatments that fail to resolve the convulsion but generate heat symptoms, or heat symptoms appearing after recovery, or conversion to acute convulsion. This is common. Inquire about the duration of illness, cause, and previous medications. Antidotal herbs are effective. This formula is suitable.
Sojae Semen Praeparatum (Doujuan - sprouted black soybeans soaked in water, dried), Guzhong, Isatidis Radix (Banlangen), Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma (Gancao) (roasted, each 1 liang).
Grind into powder. Take half a qian per dose, decoct in water. Severe cases take 3 qian, adding a few drops of oil to the decoction. Also treats vomiting worms. Take at any time.
Regarding the above miscellaneous prescriptions for slow convulsion by various authors, the first formula using human blood to apply powder to the lips is very effective. The second formula resolves toxicity from excessive medication, reflecting Qian Yi's profound concern for patients.
Huangqi Yihuang San: Treats wind-heat in the stomach.
Astragali Radix (Huangqi, 2 qian), Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma (Renshen), Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma (Gancao) (half raw, half roasted), Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium (Chenpi) (do not remove white pith, each 1 qian), Paeoniae Radix Alba (Baishaoyao) (0.7 fen), Coptidis Rhizoma (Huanglian) (a small amount), Poria (Fuling) (0.4 fen).
Grind into coarse powder. Take per dose with two cups of water, boil five times, strain, and take warm.
