Wen Zhuang (Warm Febrile Condition) and Zhuang Re (High Febrile Condition) are similar but have slight differences. Continuous high fever without abatement is Zhuang Re; whereas a mild, low-grade warmth that is not intense is Wen Zhuang. If the stool is foul-smelling and yellow, this indicates latent heat (Fu Re, hidden pathogenic heat) in the abdomen, which should be treated with Sishun Yinzi (Four Compliance Decoction). If the stool is white and sour-smelling, it indicates indigestion of retained food, and Zishuang Wan (Purple Frost Pill) should be administered. For mild cases, take a small dose; for severe cases, restrict milk feeding, increase the dosage of the pill, and aim for a mild laxative effect.
Chailing Tang (Bupleurum and Poria Decoction) treats Wen Zhuang in children and the fluctuating nature of latent heat.
Chai Hu (Bupleuri Radix, 3 qian 1/2), Maidong (Ophiopogonis Radix, heart removed), Renshen (Ginseng Radix, radix removed), Chifuling (Red Poria), Gancao (Licorice Root, each 2 qian 1/2), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix, 5 qian).
Crush into coarse powder. Decoct in water, adding twenty grains of wheat and three leaves of bamboo leaf.
Erhuang Xijiao San (Two Yellows and Rhinoceros Horn Powder) treats Wen Zhuang accompanied by heart heat, mental restlessness, and constipation.

Grind into fine powder. Take 5 fen per dose, mixed with hot water, adjusting the amount according to the child's age.
Niuhuang San (Calculus Bovis Powder) treats Wen Zhuang characterized by persistent fever or alternating chills and fever (Hanre Wanglai).
Niuhuang (Calculus Bovis, ground), Gancao (Licorice Root, each half liang), Chai Hu (Bupleuri Radix), Zhizi (Gardeniae Fructus, wine-fried), Longdancao (Gentianae Radix, wine-fried), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix, stir-fried, each 2 qian 1/2).

Jing Re (Heat due to Fright) presents as generalized fever, or mild fever, cyanotic complexion, spontaneous sweating, fright dreams during sleep, sudden screaming, and confusion. Some fevers arise from fright, while some fright arises from fever. Qian Shi’s Daochi San (Guide Out Redness Powder), Liangjing Wan (Cooling Fright Pill), Anshen San (Calm Spirit Powder), and similar formulas are treatments for this condition.
Tianzhuhuang San (Hyriana Cum Scuta Powder) treats pediatric wind-heat due to fright.
Tianzhuhuang (Hyriana Cum Scuta, ground), Chuan Yujin (Curcumae Radix), Shanzhizi (Gardeniae Fructus), Baijiangcan (Bombyx Batryticatus, stir-fried, silk mouth removed), Chanqiao (Cicadae Periostracum, cleaned), Gancao (Licorice Root, equal parts).
Grind into fine powder. For a one-year-old child, take half a qian, taken with boiled water or mint decoction at any time.
Ganlu San (Sweet Dew Powder) treats pediatric heat due to fright, promoting urination through the small intestine, removing phlegm-saliva due to fright, clearing the heart fu, and relieving irritability and thirst. Adding Cinnabar to calm the spirit and stabilize sleep creates Jia Zhu Ganlu San (Sweet Dew Powder with Added Cinnabar).
Hanshuishi (Aragonitum, ground, soft, slightly green, with fine veins is authentic), Shigao (Gypsum Fibrosum, ground, two liang each, hard, white, with layered structure; if unavailable, substitute with Calcitum), Sheng Gancao Mo (Raw Licorice Root Powder, one liang).
Mix and grind into uniform powder. Based on the child's size, take one qian or half a qian. In summer, take cold; in winter, take warm. Mix with mint decoction or Naidengxin Tang (Juncus Decoction). It can be taken for anxiety and restlessness due to fright and heat. If urine is blocked, use Maidong Dengxin Tang (Ophiopogon and Juncus Decoction). For heat due to fright, add a little Cinnabar and take at any time. Another prescription includes one liang of Chifuling. The *Su Shen Fang* uses Huashi (Talcum) instead of Shigao. Qian Shi named this Yulu San (Jade Dew Powder); take one zi, half a qian, or one qian after meals, mixed with warm plain water.
