<Suib Fang> states: In children, if the Lung organ is obstructed and stagnant, with accumulated heat attacking upwards to the brain, it causes "brain heat." Furthermore, Lung Qi connects to the nose and governs nasal discharge. If there is heat within the viscera, body fluids will dry up, thus leading to a lack of nasal discharge.
Suib Fang Mutong San (Wood Vessel Powder): Treats pediatric brain heat with no nasal discharge, dry mouth, heart restlessness, and disturbed sleep.
Ingredients: Tongcao (Vetiveria Radix, crushed), Ophiopogonis Radix (Ouyangdong, heart removed, dried), Cimicifugae Rhizoma (Chuan Shengma) (each 0.5 liang), Anemarrhenae Rhizoma (Zhimu), Cornu Bubali (Xijiao, in shavings), Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma (Gancao, roasted until slightly red, crushed), Armeniacae Semen Amarum (Xingren, soaked in hot water, skin and tips removed, bran-fried until slightly yellow) (each 1 fen), Gardeniae Fructus (Zhizi, kernel) (3 pieces).
Preparation and Administration: The above herbs are pounded and sifted into a coarse powder. Take 1 qian per dose, add one small cup of water, decoct until reduced to 0.5 cup, strain, and administer warm at any time, adjusting the dosage according to the child's age.
[Zhang Huan] Xijiao Shengma San (Rhinoceros Horn and Cimicifuga Powder): Treats nasal dryness caused by brain heat and Lung obstruction.
Ingredients: Cornu Bubali (Xijiao, in shavings) (1 liang), Cimicifugae Rhizoma (Chuan Shengma), Natrii Sulfas (Maya Xiao), Coptidis Rhizoma (Huanglian) (each 0.5 liang).

Separately process Cinnabar (Zhusha, finely ground and washed with water) (0.5 liang), Bovis Calculus (Niuhuang), and Borneolum Syntheticum (Longnao) (each 1 fen, finely ground). Combine all ingredients, pound, and sift into a fine powder. Take 0.5 qian per dose, mixed with warm honey water, administered after milk or food intake.
Wanquan Fang Maidong Wan (Ophiopogon Pill): Treats pediatric Heart and Lung excess heat, dry brain with no nasal discharge, and occasional irritability.

Qianjin Yifang discusses: Often, people have flesh growing in the nose causing blockage, making sleep and digestion uncomfortable; they can only breathe through the nose for relief. Although many folk remedies exist, none are effective. Only the Ben Cao (Materia Medica) states that Xionghuang (Realgar) treats nasal polyps, which is true. However, contemporary physicians do not know the proper method for using Realgar; they use it raw, leading to patient death. I once treated a patient suffering from nasal obstruction preventing breathing. I used processed Realgar, administered internally daily in a quantity the size of a large date. After ten days, the fleshy growth expelled itself, breathing was immediately restored, and it did not recur. The method for processing Realgar is detailed in the Immortal Elixir formula in Qianjin Yifang; one should seek it out as it yields miraculous results.
Qianjin Fang formula for treating pediatric nasal congestion with polyps:
Ingredients: Tetrapaninis Plastrum (Tongcao), Asari Radix et Rhizoma (Xixin) (each 1 liang).
Preparation and Administration: Pound these two ingredients into powder. Take an amount the size of a bean, wrap in cotton, and insert into the nostril, twice daily.
Qianjin Yifang formula for treating nasal polyps blocking the nose and preventing breathing:
Take Asari Radix et Rhizoma (Xixin), moisten with saliva, curl the head, and insert into the nostril, placing more around the inner sides. Change ten times daily. After twenty days, use: Lepidii Semen (Tingli), Usnea (Songluo) (each 1 liang and 0.5 liang respectively).
Preparation and Administration: Pound and sift these two ingredients. Wrap in cotton, thin as a date pit, and insert into the nostril, changing five to six times daily. After twenty days, take 2 liang of high-quality Wu Bai Fan (Alumen) and Alabaster (Wapi), combine them in a tile vessel, place in a kiln, and fire until the tile is cooked. Remove, pound, and sift. Mix with animal fat (Mianzhi) to form pills the size of a date pit, insert into the nostril, changing five to six times daily. Use up the batch before remaking; do not make too much at once. After twenty days, the condition resolves. Avoid physical exertion, hot foods, garlic, and wheat products for one hundred days.
Qianjin Yifang formula for treating nasal polyps resulting in loss of smell:
Ingredients: Cucumeris Fructus (Gua Di), Asari Radix et Rhizoma (Xixin) (each 0.5 liang).
Preparation and Administration: Make into a powder. Wrap in cotton wadding, the size of a bean, and insert into the nostril. Breathing will clear shortly.
