Jishi Li (Chicken Dropping Sweet Wine) [from *Suwen*]: Treats distension with damp-heat stagnation and accumulation within. The patient can eat in the morning but not in the evening.
Take the white part of the droppings from a castrated chicken (ensure the chicken is fed only aged rice and no other food, so that the droppings are dry and contain white parts).
Take eight *he* of the above, stir-fry lightly. Add three *sheng* of unadulterated wine, boil until one *sheng* five *he* remains. Take hot in the early morning hours (Wu Geng). (If unavailable, take the dried gall-bladder lining of a chicken gizzard that has never touched falling water, roast it, grind into powder, wrap aged rice in lotus leaves to form pills. Take two or three *qian* per dose, swallow with warm wine on an empty stomach.) This formula originates from the *Huangdi Neijing*.
It is a major error for later versions to add Dahuang (Rhubarb Root and Rhizome) and Taoren (Peach Seed).
Qijun Tang: Treats deficiency of both Spleen and Kidney, abdominal distension, and poor appetite.
Renshen (Ginseng Root), Huangqi (Astragalus Root), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma) [stir-fried until yellowed, 1.5 qian each], Chenpi (Tangerine Peel, 0.8 qian), Gancao (Licorice Root) [roasted, 0.5 qian], Rougui (Cinnamon Bark, 0.5 qian), Fuling (Poria, 1.5 qian), Jiangjiang (Dried Ginger) [processed, 0.4 qian], Roudoukou (Nutmeg), Chenxiang (Agarwood) [0.8 qian each], Fuzi (Aconite Lateralis Radix Praeparata) [processed, 1.5 qian].
Decoct in water, take warm. If there is Qi stagnation causing hardness and fullness, remove Huangqi and add Houpo (Magnolia Bark). This formula comes from *Yilin Cuoyao*; formulas by Qidong are rare; this "Kui" formula is unique.
Sanxue Xiaozhang Tang: Treats blood distension, characterized by polyuria and loose, black, shiny stools.
Dangguiwei (Tail of Angelicae Sinensis Radix, 1.5 qian), Wulingzhi (Trogopteri Dung), Guigui (Cassiae Ramulus), Wuyao (Linderae Radix), Gancao (Licorice Root) [roasted], Muxiang (Aucklandiae Radix) [0.6 qian each], Chuanxiong (Ligusticum Chuanxiong Rhizoma, 1.2 qian), Banxia (Pinelliae Tuber), Pengzhu (Curcumae Rhizoma) [baked, 0.8 qian each], Zisu (Perilla Leaf, 0.3 qian), Sharen (Amomi Fructus Rotundus) [1 qian, stir-fried], Shengjiang (Fresh Ginger) [5 slices].
Decoct in water, take warm before meals.
Hupo Renshen Wan: Treats blood gu (parasitic infestation manifesting as mass/distension).
Renshen (Ginseng Root), Wulingzhi (Trogopteri Dung) [1 liang each], Hupo (Fossilized Wood Resin), Rougui (Cinnamon Bark), Fuzi (Aconite Lateralis Radix Praeparata) [raw, 5 qian each], Chi Fuling (Red Poria), Chuanxiong (Ligusticum Chuanxiong Rhizoma), Chenxiang (Agarwood), Shanjiajia (Pangolin Scale) [processed, 3 qian each].
Grind into powder, use concentrated decoction of Sumu (Sappan Wood) to form pills. Take 2 qian per dose, once in the morning and once in the evening, with warm wine. The combination of Renshen and Wulingzhi is most effective for dredging blood; this is the specific formula for treating blood gu.
