Patient Pan (28 years old): Previously suffered from lung disease caused by coughing. Recently, external exposure to cool wind led to qi obstruction and loss of voice. Observation of the tongue shows crimson edges with a yellow coating, indicating that cold has transformed into heat.
Adopt the Yuebi Decoction method (Yuebi Tang, a formula for releasing the exterior and clearing heat) with added Coicis Semen (Yi Yi Ren) and Poria (Fu Ling).
Patient Qian (20 years old): The pulse on the left is twice as strong as that on the right, with yin fire boiling. This stems from unfulfilled sexual desires. Stomach qi being robust can clear yin fire (Robust stomach refers to sufficient and vigorous stomach yin).
Prescription: Rehmanniae Radix Preparata (Sheng Di Huang), Asparagi Rhizoma (Tian Dong), Scrophulariae Radix (Yuan Shen), Anemarrhenae Rhizoma (Zhi Mu), Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma Recens (Sheng Gan Cao), Ophiopogonis Radix (Mai Dong), Fritillariae Thunbergii Bulbus (Chuan Bei Mu).
Patient Zhu (Dai Cheng Qiao, 23 years old): Stomach pain due to yang deficiency was effective with acrid-warm herbs. However, inhaling foul air while moving through streets entered internally and injured yang, causing pain to recur. First, expel the turbid foulness (A novel approach; this new foulness triggered the chronic disease).
Patient Yao (23 years old): Damage to essence and blood led to bone flaccidity. Quack doctors treated it with pungent-bitter medicinal wines, which failed to cure the disease and instead affected the stomach region. There is no shortcut to curing diseases; regulating the stomach qi is prioritized.
Patient Xu (39 years old): Physical exertion injured yang, leading to hemorrhage.
Prescription: Xiaojianzhong Decoction (Xiao Jian Zhong Tang) without Ginger (Gan Jiang).
Patient Wang (45 years old): Summer-heat wind steams heat but cannot resolve it, indicating heat damaging the qi level. Incompetent physicians used nourishing blood medications, having not studied collections on summer-heat diseases.
Prescription: Mung Bean Skin (Lv Dou Pi), Junci Medulla (Deng Cao Xin), Phellodendri Cortex Recens (Xian Gu Pi), Bamboo Leaf Heart (Zhu Ye Xin), Mulberry Leaf after Frost (Jing Shuang Sang Ye).
Patient Wang (58 years old): Onset due to anger; liver wood invades stomach earth, causing stomach qi to rebel and vomit food. The saliva/phlegm expelled is transformed body fluid steamed by heat. Following Zhang Zhongjing’s principle: "When the stomach is deficient, guest qi rebels upward."
Patient Liu (40 years old): Hernia masses (Shan Jia) are caused by pathogenic factors condensing in the meridians. Use sharp, penetrating toxic drugs that move without staying, allowing qi and blood to circulate freely to resolve the condition.
Patient Wang: Alcohol-induced damp-heat flows downward, steaming blood into pus. Ulceration has persisted for half a year, damaging both qi and blood. Numbness and insensitivity indicate deficiency; therefore, tonify both qi and blood simultaneously. Do not use warm-drying methods (Masterful technique).
Patient Chen: Palpation of the anterior part of the right Guan position reveals a wiry and moving pulse. The patient reports a sensation of distension and discomfort under the right hypochondrium and scapula. It is hypothesized that Shaoyang Yang Wood must invade Yin Earth. With wood stagnating in earth, simple warming and opening is ineffective. Proposal: Resolve stagnation and calm the middle jiao (Formula is pure and authentic).
Prescription: Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma (Ren Shen), Poria (Fu Ling), Bupleuri Radix (Chai Hu), Paeoniae Radix Alba (Bai Shao), Massae Fermentatae Medicinalis (Shen Qu), Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens (Sheng Jiang).
Patient Li (Bu Qian, 36 years old): Claims to have been healthy before, but fell ill after drinking medicinal wine. Random treatments with various cold, cool, warm, and hot substances severely damaged the stomach qi. Recently suffered the loss of a son, resulting in blurred vision and drooping eyelids. No specific treatment method available at present.
