Nature is cold. It treats febrile diseases, resolves dysentery toxins, eliminates infantile malnutrition accumulation (Ganji), promotes appetite, and dissolves dry fecal impaction.
It should be washed clean, dried in the sun, and used after stir-frying.
To treat entropion with curled eyelashes, grind the dried flies hibernating in the twelfth lunar month into powder, and frequently instill it into the nose for immediate cure.
To treat inverted or depressed smallpox lesions. (Use seven specimens each time, grind into powder, and take with wine. In winter, they inhabit the ears of dogs, from which they can be collected.)
(Ten species in the "Hua Sheng" [Spontaneously Generated] category)
Blatta orientalis (Cockroach) serves as an assistant drug. It is incompatible with Aconitum carmichaelii lateral root prepared (Fuzi).
Slightly warm, toxic. It treats traumatic injuries where evil blood stagnates under the hypochondrium, causing hardness and fullness.
This refers to the insect found within the stalks of Xanthium sibiricum (Cang'er).
It specifically treats all types of Ding sores, malignant ulcers, and unnameable swellings and toxins. Burn until carbonized but retaining its nature, grind into powder, mix with oil, and apply topically. Alternatively, drown them in sesame oil, store, and use one or two specimens crushed for topical application; the toxin disperses immediately with great efficacy. Combine with white plum flesh, crush, and apply to malignant ulcers. Combine with Bombyx batryticatus (Bai Jiangcan) and Jiang tea, grind into equal parts powder, mix with honey, and apply to swellings and toxins. Add a small amount of arsenic trioxide (Pi), crush, and apply to Ding toxins. (Puncture the sore to break the skin, apply for a short while, then pinch out the root of the Ding with fingers for cure.)
This refers to the insect found between the nodes of Artemisia annua (Qinghao).
It specifically treats acute and chronic convulsive disorders (Jing Feng). Crush the insect and mix with Cinnabaris (Zhusha) and Calomelas (Qingfen), each 5 fen, to make pills. One pill per year of age, administered by dissolving in human milk.
Salty, cold. Enters the Hand Taiyin Lung Meridian. It dispels wind-heat, induces eruption of smallpox/rash, expels retained placenta, promotes lactation, kills parasites causing Gan disease, and treats urticaria. Combined with Cinnabar (Zhusha), it stops night crying in infants. Combined with Mentha haplocalyx (Bohe), it treats itching caused by wind-heat. Mixed with onion juice, it is applied to tetanus (Po Shang Feng). Combined with sheep liver, it treats corneal opacity (Yi) following smallpox. When combined with cold-natured herbs, it reaches the Lung meridian directly, clears heat, and relieves thirst.
Wash clean, remove wings and legs, boil in starch water, and use after drying. When entering the Zang-Fu organs and meridians, use the body part. Overconsumption depletes primordial Qi.
It fears Gypsum Fibrosum (Shigao), Ovis/Aries cornu (Yangjiao), and mutton.
Salty, cold. Toxic. Enters the Foot Jueyin Liver Meridian. It treats convulsions and epilepsy, dissipates wind-heat, treats dysentery, breaks up stagnant blood, applies to Ding toxins, and reduces macroglossia (Chong She). Combined with Crotonis fructus (Badou), stir-fried and applied to arrowheads embedded in bone; wait until extreme itching occurs, then extract the arrowhead.
Steam or stir-fry, remove legs and wings before use. Do not place in water, as it may induce vomiting. Its nature is fierce and rapid, most easily damaging the Spleen; do not use lightly.
Commonly called "Pushcart Guest." It wraps feces in soil, rolling them into pellets, and is abundant on mountains.
