Ma Lin (Iris lactea) serves as the guiding herb. It is opposed by Crotonis Fructus (Badou, 巴豆), Salviae Miltiorrhizae Radix (Danshen, 丹参), and Azurite (Kongqing, 空青). It is incompatible with Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma (Gancao, 甘草) and Phaseoli Volubilis Flos (Doushua, 豆花).
Pungent in flavor, cold in nature. Toxic. It specifically travels to the lower orifices, reaching directly to the areas of semen and urine excretion, guiding medicinal qi downward, utilizing its toxicity to attack toxicity. It may be temporarily used only for scrofula (Luo Li, 瘰疬) and dog bites; it is strictly contraindicated in all other cases.
Take seven Mylabris (Banmao, 斑蝥), grind into powder, or add four qian of Liu Yi San (Six-to-One Powder), taken with plain boiled water. If urination does not become unobstructed, it may be taken again. This treats rabid dog bites. (There must be two or three red hairs on the vertex of the head, which should be plucked out.) Combine with Menthae Haplocalycis Herba (Bohe, 薄荷), grind together into powder, and form pills with egg white. This can eliminate scrofula.
Harvest from bean leaves in August, dry in the shade, remove the head, legs, and wings, soak and wash in wine, stir-fry with glutinous rice until scorched yellow, remove the rice, and grind for use. There are also methods using only rice, extracting only the qi without the substance.
If processed according to standard methods, the toxicity will manifest upon ingestion. If dysuria with severe pain occurs, guide it out using Akebiae Caulis (Mutong, 木通), Talcum (Huashi, 滑石), and Junci Medulla (Dengxin, 灯心). If abdominal urgency and pain occur after diarrhea, immediately use cold water, Indigo Naturalis juice (Danzhi, 靛汁), Coptidis Rhizoma (Huanglian, 黄连) water, along with Vigna radiata Var. Umbilicalis (Heidou, 黑豆), Allii Fistulosi Bulbus (Congbai, 葱), and tea, consumed frozen to resolve the toxicity. After recovery, avoid all hot-natured foods.
It is opposed by Viticis Fructus (Manjingzi, 蔓荆) and Realgar (Xionghuang, 雄黄).
Slightly cold in nature. Slightly toxic. Treats snake bites, cures warm malaria, stops vomiting, regurgitation, and cholera, and treats abdominal distension resembling Dingxi disease (Abdominal Distension). Combined with Cinnamomi Cortex (Rougui, 肉桂), it treats Hu Shen (Fox Hernia). Combined with Cupri Acetas Viridis (Tonglv, 铜绿), it is applied to treat Zou Ma Gan (Running Horse Gum Disease).
For spider bites causing abdominal distension like pregnancy, drink sheep's milk to resolve the toxin. Apply a mixture of Indigo Naturalis juice, Moschus (Shexiang, 麝香), and Realgar to the bite site.
To treat Hou Bi (Sore Throat) and Ru E (Tonsillitis), use seven Wall Money (Bi Qian, 壁钱) from walls, two of which must be alive. Mash them together, mix with seven fen of Alum (Bai Fan, 白矾) powder, burn the Wall Money with Alum until the essence remains, remove fire toxicity, grind into powder, and blow into the throat with a bamboo tube for immediate cure. Avoid hot meat and hard foods. Combine with Humanis Placenta Ash (Renzhongbai, 人中白) in equal parts, burn and grind, apply to gums for Gang (Gum Disease) with foul odor for immediate cessation.
Ke Mu (Nest Curtain) refers to the white Wall Money nest.
Decoct and sip the juice to treat postpartum cough and counterflow qi. Burn, grind, and blow into the throat to treat Hou Bi and Ru E.
The tail is called Xie Shao (Scorpion Tail Tip).
Pungent in flavor, hot in nature. Toxic. Enters the Foot-Jueyin Liver Meridian. It treats all diseases caused by wind pathogen, including deafness, tremors, vertigo, phlegm-malaria, convulsions, and epilepsy. It guides wind-dispelling herbs to the disease site to eradicate the root; combined with descending herbs, it warms kidney qi to stop pain. Combined with Bai Fu Zi (Aconiti Kusnezoffii Radix Preparata, 白附) and Bombyx Batryticatus (Jiangcan, 僵蚕), it treats convulsions. Combined with Gastrodiae Rhizoma (Tianma, 天麻) and Apis Mellifica (Fengshi, 蜂实) [if Fengshi is unavailable, Beehive may be used].
Wash lightly in wine, remove legs, and bake for use. The tail tip has particularly potent effects. Contraindicated in stroke-like conditions and slow spleen convulsions.
