Emergency Formula: Grind high-quality Hang powder (Hangfen, 杭粉) into a fine powder, mix with good quality head oil (Touyou, 头油) used by women, and apply to the affected area. If unavailable, Bi Zi You (Cupressus Semen Oil) can also be used. (From *Shen Shi Jing Yan Fang*)
Another formula: Slice fresh Da Huang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma), dry in the sun, grind into a fine powder. Keep away from fire. Mix with tender Tong You (Verniciae Fructus Oil) and apply; it will heal immediately. (Ibid.)
Another formula: Mash Li Zi (Pyrus Sinensis) and apply to the site. It relieves pain and prevents putrefaction, with miraculous effects. (From *Guang Li Fang*)
Severe Pain from Scalds and Burns: Take one bowl of Cai You (Brassicae Chinensis Seed Oil) and soak the wound for one quarter-hour (Ke). The pain will cease immediately, and the skin will peel off within two or three days. If soaking is inconvenient, apply frequently. For all scalds and burns, absolutely do not stimulate the wound with cold water, cold objects, well mud, or urine mud. When heat meets cold, the pathogenic factor penetrates deeper. Mild cases may result in muscle spasms/contractions; severe cases may lead to Fire Toxin attacking the Heart, causing rapid death. (From *Mi Fang Ji Xiao*)
Scalds/Burns Exposing Bone: Bai Cao Shuang (Soot from Chimney), 3 qian; Qing Fen (Calomel), 1.5 qian. Grind together into a powder, mix with Ma You (Sesamum Indicum Seed Oil) and apply. Effective. (From *Dan Fang Zhai Yao*)
Scalds/Burns with Burning Sensation: Crush porcelain from Jingdezhen, bury it in a stove, cover with charcoal fire, leave overnight. Remove, eliminate "fire toxicity," grind into powder, add a small amount of Huang Dan (Lithargyrum), and apply for immediate healing. (From *Huo You Kou Yi*)
Another formula: Use Bi Ren (Cacumen Ricini) and Ge Fen (Margarita), equal parts. Grind into a paste. For scalds, mix with oil; for burns, mix with water. Apply. (From *Gu Jin Lu Yan*)
Scalds/Burns: Jiao Su Mi (Charred Millet), i.e., charred millet juice obtained by soaking charred millet in water and clarifying. Boil until thick like sugar. Apply frequently to relieve pain and prevent scars. Alternatively, use half-raw, half-roasted millet ground into powder, mixed with wine for application. (From *Cui Xing Gong Zuan Yao*)
Another formula: Store Ma You (Sesamum Indicum Seed Oil) in a bottle. Use chopsticks to pick yellow Hua Kui (Hibiscus Mutabilis Flower) from trees into the bottle. Avoid human contact. Seal tightly for storage. When injury occurs, apply this oil. Very effective. (From *Jing Yan Mi Fang*)
Scald/Burn Sores: Redness, swelling, pain, toxin corruption leading to pus. Fry Dang Gui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix) (1 liang) in Ma You (4 liang) until charred. Strain, add Huang La (Beeswax) (1 liang), stir until melted, cool, spread on silk cloth, and apply. Relieves pain, draws out Heat Toxin, contracts sores. Miraculous effect. (From *Yi Lin Ji Yao*)
Another formula: Use Dao Cao Hui (Straw Ash). Wash seven times with cold water. Spread containing stone particles on the wound; replace when dry. If the sore is wet, roast dry first, then apply oil twice or thrice to heal. (From *Wei Sheng Yi Jian Fang*)
Scalds and Burns: Place a large freshwater clam in a porcelain basin, mouth upward, in an unmanned place. Wait for the mouth to open. Pre-grind Bing Pian (Borneolum Syntheticum) and She Xiang (Moschus) (each 2-3 fen) into fine powder. Scoop 2-3 fen into the clam's mouth. The mouth closes, and the clam meat liquefies. Add a little more Bing Pian and She Xiang. Use a chicken feather to sweep the mixture onto the wound, starting from the periphery and moving inward layer by layer. Pain naturally decreases. Small clams can be used if large ones are unavailable. This is the most effective emergency first aid formula. Once the fire heat subsides, burn the lower part of the clam shell to preserve its nature, grind into powder, add a little Bing Pian and She Xiang, and sweep from the perimeter. In areas without clams, grinding Bing Pian from the four sides toward the center is also effective, leading to gradual recovery. (From *Jiangsu Hu Nie Tai Kan Chuan Fang*)
Scalds: Cook egg yolks until hard, fry to extract oil (one zhong). Mix with Da Huang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma) powder for application. (From *Ji Jian Fang*)
Scalds and Burns: Clean Da Mai (Hordei Fructus Germinatus), stir-fry in a clay pot until pitch black. Remove, spread on paper on the ground to dissipate fire heat, then grind into powder. For ulcerated wounds, sprinkle dry powder. For intact skin, mix with Xiang You (Sesame Oil) or Tong You (Verniciae Fructus Oil) for application. Relieves pain and heals immediately. (From *Qi Fang Lei Bian*)
Another formula: Roast human feces on tiles until charred black, grind into powder, mix with Xiang You (Sesame Oil) and apply. Also effective. (Ibid.)
Scalds and Burns: Use old, dry, white Luo Si Ke (Concha Cipreae). Calcine in fire into powder. If the sore is broken, sprinkle dry powder. If unbroken, mix with clear oil for application. (From *Qian Kun Mi Yun*)
Another formula: Grind animal skulls from ancient temples into powder, mix with Xiang You (Sesame Oil) and apply. (From *Qi Fang Zuan Yao*)
Burns from Fire Disaster: Apply Da Huang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma) powder mixed with Tong You (Verniciae Fructus Oil). Alternatively, some say to apply Di Yu (Sanguisorbae Radix) and Hua Shi (Talcum) powder. This not only relieves pain but also prevents ulceration and leaves no scars after healing. (From *Hui Di Bian*)
Another formula: Take a small piece of Duan Shi (Calcined Gypsum). Dissolve in well water, evaporate the water completely, mix with Ma You (Sesamum Indicum Seed Oil), and apply to the wound. Also excellent. (Ibid.)
Smoke and Fire Injury: Han Shui Shi (Gypsum Fibrosum), Da Huang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma), Huang Bo (Phellodendri Cortex), equal parts. Grind into powder, mix with honey for application. Cold water must be strictly avoided. Exercise caution if the wound extends to bone/tendon. (From *Sheng Sheng Bian*)
Pain from Hot Oil: Apply Bai Mi (White Honey) to the affected area. (From *Lu Shi Ji De Sai Fang*)
