(Siqi Tang in *San Yin Fang*) Treats Qi stagnation due to the Seven Emotions, with accumulation of phlegm and saliva. The patient feels a foreign body sensation in the throat that cannot be coughed out or swallowed down, accompanied by chest fullness and rapid breathing, or coughing, or wheezing, or pain caused by Qi counterflow attacking upwards. (The Seven Emotions refer to Joy, Anger, Worry, Thought, Sorrow, Fear, and Fright. Diseases caused by the Seven Emotions lead to Qi knotting and Phlegm gathering, preventing the ascending and descending of Yin and Yang, thus resulting in syndromes such as stuffiness, fullness, wheezing, coughing, and counterflow attacks.)
Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma), stir-fried with Ginger Juice (5 qian); Houpo (Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex), stir-fried with Ginger Juice (3 qian); Fuling (Poria), 4 qian; Zisu Ye (Perillae Folium), 2 qian. Decoct with added Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens) and Dazao (Jujubae Fructus). When Qi is stagnant, Phlegm gathers; therefore, to dissipate stagnation, promoting Qi movement and resolving Phlegm must be the priority. Banxia is acrid and warm, eliminating Phlegm and opening stagnation. Houpo is bitter and warm, directing Qi downward and dispersing fullness.
If Baishao (Paeoniae Radix Alba), Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium), Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma), and Guixin (Cinnamomi Ramulus) are added, it is also called Qi Qi Tang. (*San Yin Fang*) Treats Qi knotting due to the Seven Emotions, causing reversal of Yin and Yang, simultaneous vomiting and diarrhea, alternating chills and fever, and dizziness.
(Ju Fang, also called Qi Qi Tang) Treats Qi stagnation due to the Seven Emotions, with accumulation of phlegm and saliva. Deficient cold Qi rising upward, or severe colic pain in the heart and abdomen, or abdominal distension and rapid breathing. (*Ling Shu* states: Disharmony of the Stomach collaterals causes wheezing arising from the reversal of Yangming Qi upward; depletion of True Yuan causes wheezing arising from the rushing up of Kidney Qi.)
Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma), Guixin (Cinnamomi Ramulus), Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma, 1 qian), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, 0.5 qian). Decoct with added Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens). If there is heart and abdominal pain, add Yanshusuo (Cyperi Rhizoma). (Yanshusuo can move Qi stagnation in Blood and Blood stagnation in Qi.)
Li Shicai said: Excessive Seven Emotions all damage Qi. Zhu Danxi advocates using Yueju Wan for this, but this formula is unique because prolonged stagnation leads to blockage by turbid Qi... [Text fragment] ...planning and deliberation excess.
Guolao (Old Man, an alias for Gancao/Citizens of the State, here referring to Licorice or related composition).
Treats Dian (Manic-Depressive Disorder) and Kuang (Mania) with loss of mind. Dian syndrome often manifests as excessive laughter while still knowing fear, belonging to deficiency syndromes. Kuang syndrome often manifests as anger and rage, uncontrollable by others, belonging to Yin excess syndromes. This disease is mostly caused by fright and sorrow, leading to Phlegm and Blood stasis blocking the Heart orifices. *Nan Jing* states: Excess of Yang leads to Kuang; Excess of Yin leads to Dian.
Bai Fan (Alumen), 3 liang; Yujin (Curcumae Longae Radix), 7 liang. Make pills with Bohe Hu (Menthae Haplocalycis paste).
Bai Fan is sour and salty, capable of softening stubborn Phlegm. Yujin is bitter and acrid, capable of removing foul Blood. Once Phlegm and Blood stasis are removed, the Heart orifices open, and the disease resolves.
