Treats Phlegm-Heat (Excess Qi transforms into Fire, Excess Fluids gather into Phlegm; Phlegm ascends and descends following the Fire. Therefore, to treat Phlegm, one must subdue the Fire and regulate the Qi.)
Banxia (Ginger-processed Pinellia Rhizome) Danshen (Arisaema cum Bile) Juhong (Exocarpium Citri Reticulatae) Zhishi (Bran-fried Immature Bitter Orange) Xingren (Skin and tip removed Apricot Seed) Gualouren (Oil removed Trichosanthis Semen) Huangqin (Wine-fried Scutellaria Root)
This is a general formula for treating Phlegm-Fire. Banxia and Nanxing dry dampness; Huangqin and Gualou calm heat. Chenpi regulates internal Qi, Xingren descends rebellious Qi... (Original text has omissions/disorder here, logically completing: Xingren to descend Qi's rebellion... Qi acts as...)
(Jufang) Subjugates Rising Deficient Yang, where Qi does not ascend or descend. Upper Excess and Lower Deficiency, with abundant Phlegm-Saliva, wheezing, coughing, vomiting blood, or constipation. (Qi is the master; Fire rises and overacts on Lung, causing high Qi and surging Phlegm, leading to wheezing or coughing, even vomiting blood. Fire flares, fluids dry up, there is only ascending without descending, hence constipation. There are also cases of Qi-pain and constipation where purgatives fail to relieve and even worsen the condition, so temporary relief leads back to constipation. If this leads to lower bleeding, one should also regulate Qi; when Qi is smooth, bleeding stops, seeking warm-natured formulas is appropriate.)
Suzi (Perilla Fruit) Banxia (Pinellia Rhizome) Qianhu (Peucedani Radix) Houpo (Ginger-processed Magnolia Bark) Juhong (Exocarpium Citri Reticulatae) Danggui (Angelica Sinensis Root, 1 qian) Gancao (Honey-fried Licorice Root) Rougui (Cinnamon Bark, 5 fen) Add fresh ginger and decoct. One dose...
Suzi, Qianhu, Houpo, Juhong, Banxia all can descend rebellious Qi and eliminate Phlegm; when Qi moves, Phlegm moves. These herbs can also release the exterior... (Original text has omissions/disorder here, logically completing: Since it treats... Upper Excess... Upper Excess... Jiao ge... formula)
Treats Lung Deficiency with Cold invasion, rebellious Qi and Diaphragm Heat causing asthma. (There is tenacious Phlegm in the Diaphragm, and external atypical pathogenic factors cause asthma. Pathogens bind the exterior, Yang Qi merges into the Diaphragm, unable to vent. Thus Diaphragm Heat and rebellious Qi arise. Rough voice indicates Xiao (wheezing), which is excess from external pathogens. Shortness of breath indicates Chuan (panting), which is deficiency of Lung.)
Baiguo (Thirty pieces, stir-fried until yellow, shell removed) Mahuang (Ginger-processed Ephedra Herb) Kuandonghua (Fritillaria Flower) Sangbaipi (Honey-fried Mulberry Root Bark) Suzi (Perilla Fruit, 2 qian) Xingren (Apricot Seed, ...)
Exterior Cold should be dispersed; Mahuang, Xingren, Sangbaipi, Gancao are pungent and sweet, dispersing outward, draining Lung and releasing the exterior. Interior Heat should be cleared; Kuandonghua is warm and moistening, Baiguo is astringent... (Original text has omissions/disorder here, logically completing: Efficacy...)
