(Jingyue) In cases of deficiency of true Yin, bleeding due to Spleen deficiency, or even mild loose stools (loose stools), the focus is on the Spleen; hence the name "Wuyin" (Five Yin Decoction). Lubricating agents are contraindicated; this formula is suitable for such conditions.
Shudi (Prepared Rehmanniae Radix) [5-7 qian], Shaoyao (Stir-fried White Peony Root) [fried until yellow], Shanyao (Stir-fried Dioscoreae Rhizoma) [2 qian, stir-fried], Bian Dou (Stir-fried Lablab Seed) [2-3 qian, stir-fried], Fuling (Poria) [1.5 qian], Gancao (Honey-fried Licorice Root) [1-2 qian, honey-fried].
(Shao Yingjie) Treats conditions of insufficient essence and blood, emaciation with generalized bi-syndrome (generalized flaccidity and obstruction), infertility due to Kidney emptiness, Xiao Ke (wasting-thirst syndrome) with dribbling, spermatorrhea, metrorrhagia and leukorrhea, as well as sores, ulcers, and hemorrhoidal swelling. (Note: Zhou Bi refers to generalized flaccidity and obstruction caused by insufficiency of Qi and Blood; infertility is caused by Cold in the Kidney and decline of essence; Xiao Ke with dribbling is caused by Water failing to control Fire; spermatorrhea is caused by non-interaction between Heart and Kidney; metrorrhagia, leukorrhea, sores, and hemorrhoids are caused by disharmony of Ying and Blood.)
Heshouwu (Polygoni Multiflori Radix Praeparata) [large ones], Chi Shao (Red Peony Root) and Bai Shao (White Peony Root) [each 1 jin], peeled and sliced, steamed nine times and sun-dried nine times mixed with Black Soybeans (Glycine Max Seeds), Baifuling (Poria mixed with milk), Niuxi (Achyranthis Bidentatae Radix) [soaked in wine, steamed together with Heshouwu from the 7th to the 9th time], Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix) [washed in wine], Gouqi (Lycii Fructus) [soaked in wine], Tusizi (Cuscutae Semen) [soaked in wine and steamed, each 0.5 jin], Pogu Zhi (Psoraleae Fructus) [stir-fried with Black Sesame Seeds, net weight 4 liang]. Make into honey pills, take with salt water or wine, and avoid iron vessels.
Heshouwu astringes essence and consolidates Qi, tonifies the Liver and strengthens the Kidneys, serving as the Sovereign herb. Fuling facilitates communication between Heart and Kidney and drains dampness from the Spleen; Niuxi strengthens sinews and bones and benefits the Lower Jiao. Danggui is acrid and warm to nourish Blood; Gouqi is sweet and moistening to replenish Yin. Tusizi benefits the Three Yin meridians and strengthens Wei Qi (Defensive Qi); Pogu Zhi assists Mingmen Fire (Gate of Vitality) and warms the Dantian. These are all herbs that consolidate the root, ensuring harmony of Ying and Wei, interaction of Water and Fire, leading to supreme harmony of Qi and Blood, whereby various diseases resolve spontaneously. (Although Heshouwu has been circulated for a long time, few have taken it. During the Jiajing reign of the Ming Dynasty, the alchemist Shao Yingjie presented this formula. Emperor Shizong took it and subsequently fathered multiple princes, causing the formula to become popular.)
(Jingyue) Treats severe depletion of Qi and Blood in men and women, loss of spiritual mastery, and acute conditions. This is the premier formula for reversing critical conditions, supporting transformation, saving the root, and cultivating the origin. It shares mutual usage with the preceding Yougui Yin (Right Restoring Decoction).
Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma) [tonifies Qi and Yang, serves as the main ingredient, use 1-2 qian for small doses, up to 1-2 liang for large doses]. Shudi (Prepared Rehmanniae Radix) [tonifies Essence and Yin, serves as the main ingredient]. If diarrhea is present, remove Shudi. If there is insufficiency of Yuan Yang (Primal Yang) with excessive cold stagnation, it need not be used.
