Treating deficiency-cold of the Spleen and Kidney with severe sliding and uncontrolled discharge, or dysentery and diarrhea that cannot be stopped, or sinking of Qi and Blood. For cases where bleeding from the two yin openings (anterior and posterior orifices) is unremitting, there is no formula better than this one.
Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma, 1 liang), Gan Jiang (Dried Ginger, stir-fried until yellow), Zhi Fu Zi (Prepared Aconite Lateralis Radix, 2 qian), Zhi Gan Cao (Honey-fried Licorice Root, 1-2 qian), Wu Mei (Mume Fruit, 5 fen or 1 qian, adjusted according to the condition). Pound the herbs into a coarse powder, sift it finely. Take 3 qian each time, mix with warm water, and take before meals.
(Zhu Danxi) Treating hernia pain.
Wu Zhu Yu (Evodiae Fructus), Zhi Ke (Aurantii Fructus Immaturus), Zhi Zi (Gardeniae Fructus), Tang Qiu Zi (Crataegi Fructus, specifically smaller hawthorns, all stir-fried), Li Zhi He (Litchi Seed). Divide equally into powder. Take on an empty stomach, washed down with flowing water.
(Zhu Danxi) This approach originates from dampness causing disease. Zhi Zi is used for clearing heat; if it is a deficiency pattern, it manifests; for excess patterns, blackened Zhi Zi is used to bind cold.
Treating Yin deficiency in the lower jiao with Yang repelling in the upper jiao, leading to the loss of control over True Yang, with blood following upwards and overflowing, resulting in massive hematemesis (vomiting blood) and epistaxis (nosebleed), fine and faint pulse at all six positions, cold extremities, with life hanging by a thread. For cases where hemorrhage cannot be stopped, use this formula immediately to provide a return for the lone Yang, so that the blood will naturally settle. If treating throat bi (sore throat with obstruction) caused by Yang repelling, take this decoction cold.
Shu Di Huang (Prepared Rehmanniae Radix, 1-2 liang), Niu Xi (Achyranthis Bidentatae Radix, 2 qian), Zhi Gan Cao (Honey-fried Licorice Root, 1 qian), Ze Xie (Alismatis Rhizoma, 1.5 qian), Rou Gui (Cinnamon Bark, 1-2 qian), Zhi Fu Zi (Prepared Aconite Lateralis Radix, 1-2 qian). Rapidly add extra Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma).
(Jisheng Tang Formula) Treating four types of hernia. (Swelling and hardness of the scrotum and testicles, without pain or itching, is called hernia; some also have twisting pain radiating to the umbilicus and abdomen. The four types are Chang Hernia [Intestinal], Luan Hernia [Testicular], Shui Hernia [Hydrocele], and Qi Hernia [Gas], all caused by cold-dampness.)
Ju He (Tangerine Seed), Chuan Lian Zi (Toosendan Fructus), Hai Zao (Sargassum Herba), Hai Dai (Kelp), Kun Bu (Eckloniae Thallus), Tao Ren (Persicae Semen, 2 liang), Yan Hu Suo (Corydalis Rhizoma), Nong Po (Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex), Zhi Shi (Aurantii Fructus Immaturus), Mu Tong (Akebiae Caulis), Gui Xin (Cinnamomi Ramulus), Mu Xiang (Aucklandiae Radix). Take with salt water or wine.
Ju He and Mu Xiang can enter the Qi aspect of the Jueyin channel to move Qi. Tao Ren and Yan Hu Suo can enter the Blood aspect of the Jueyin channel to invigorate Blood. Chuan Lian Zi and Mu Tong can guide pathogens from the Small Intestine and Bladder downwards. Together, they form a formula for reducing swelling and eliminating hardness. (Zhu Danxi said: For hernias without pain, abstinence from sexual intercourse and avoiding rich, greasy foods are indispensable. Cang Zhu, Shen Qu, Shan Zha, Bai Zhi, Chuan Xiong, Zhi Shi, and Ban Xia are essential herbs, and adjustments should be made according to seasonal cold and heat. Add Zhi Zi for heat, add Po Xiao for hardness, and add Wu Zhu Yu in autumn and winter.)
