*Testudinis Carapax et Plastrum Praeparatum* (prepared with butter), *Longgu* (processed by boiling overnight inside a chicken abdomen after being ground into powder), *Yuanzhi*, *Jiuji Changpu*. Grind all ingredients into equal parts of fine powder. Take one qian per dose, mixed with wine, twice daily.

(Zhu Danxi) Treats tinnitus and deafness due to Kidney Water deficiency and flaming Fire, cough with counterflow qi, and deficiency heat. (The ear is the orifice of the Kidney; tinnitus and deafness both belong to Kidney deficiency. When Kidney Water cannot control Fire, it results in cough with counterflow qi and deficiency heat.) For patients with a flooding Ren Mai pulse who cannot tolerate harsh tonification.
*Huangbai* (stir-fried with salt and wine), *Zhimu* (stir-fried with salt water, four liang), *Shudi*, *Testudinis Carapax et Plastrum Praeparatum* (prepared with butter, six liang). Mix with pig spinal cord and honey to make pills. Take with salt water decoction.
These four herbs are all medicines for nourishing Yin and tonifying the Kidney. Nourishing Water serves to descend Fire, which is what is meant by "Strengthening the Master of Water to restrain the Solar Flare." Adding spinal cord is because it can... connect to the Kidney...
