(See the Harmonizing Section) Add Mangxiao (Natrii Sulfas, 6 liang).

If exterior syndrome is mistakenly treated with purgation, pathogenic heat enters the stomach taking advantage of the deficiency, leading to dysentery. Since symptoms such as fullness, vomiting, and tidal fever persist, Xiaochaihu Tang (Minor Bupleurum Decoction) should first be administered to resolve the exterior, followed by...

(Zhongjing) Treats Taiyang disease presenting with Guizhi Tang syndrome, (manifesting as fever, headache, aversion to wind, and spontaneous sweating.) If the physician erroneously applies purgation, diarrhea will persist incessantly. (This occurs because the pathology was not in the interior, yet purgation was used, damaging the stomach and intestines; the exterior pathogen then penetrates inward due to the deficiency, resulting in persistent diarrhea accompanied by fever.) A rapid pulse indicates that the exterior pathogen has not yet resolved. ("Cu" refers to a rapid pulse with occasional irregular pauses, indicating excessive Yang. Although there is diarrhea, the presence of a Cu pulse confirms that the exterior pathogen remains and previous symptoms persist.) Panting accompanied by sweating: (Sweating is caused by the exuberance of pathogenic factors on the exterior. Panting with sweating is caused by excess in the interior leading to rebellious Qi. This formula primarily disperses exterior pathogens and clears interior heat.) The main herbs are Gegen (Puerariae Radix, 8 lian), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, prepared), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix, 2 liang), and Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma, 3 liang). Boil Gegen first, then add the remaining herbs to decoct, optionally adding Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens) and Dazao (Jujubae Fructus).

When the exterior syndrome persists but the physician erroneously uses purgation, the pathogen enters the Fu organs of the Yangming channel. The sweat escapes outward, Qi rebels upward causing panting, and sinks downward causing diarrhea. Therefore, Guizhi is discarded in favor of Gegen... (Zhongjing) Treats Taiyang disease where erroneous purgation causes the condition to shift to Taiyin, characterized by abdominal fullness, severe excess, and pain.

Guizhi Tang (see Exterior-Resolving Section), plus Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma, 1 liang) and Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix, 3 liang).

If erroneous purgation leads to Jie Xiong (Chest Binding), the pathogen is located superiorly and still belongs to the Taiyang channel. However, if there is abdominal fullness with severe excess and pain, the pathogen has entered the Taiyin channel. The Classics state: All pain is generally due to excess... (Text missing here, likely discussing the rationale for Guizhi Jiada Huang Tang and warming methods).

(Hejian) Treats all conditions caused by external Wind-Cold-Dampness-Heat, improper diet, overwork, and various internal/external pathogens, resulting in stagnation of Qi and Blood, and excess in both the exterior and interior, involving the Triple Burner. Symptoms include severe chills and high fever (pathogen in the exterior), dizziness of head and eyes, red and painful eyes. Wind-Heat attacking upward causes tinnitus, nasal congestion, bitter taste in the mouth, dry tongue, and throat discomfort. Thick sticky nasal discharge, cough with rebellious Qi, constipation (heat binding in the Large Intestine), dark and scanty urination (heat accumulating in the Bladder). Carbuncles, sores, and toxic swellings (Qi stagnation). Traumatic injuries, blood stasis, bloody stool, intestinal wind, and hemorrhoids. Convulsions of hands and feet, fright, mania, and delirium (Liver Wind and Stomach Fire). Erythema, macules, and hives (heat in the Stomach).

Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix), Jingjie (Perillae Folium), Lianqiao (Forsythiae Fructus), Mahuang (Ephedrae Herba), Bohe (Menthae Haplocalycis Herba), Chuanxiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Baishao (Paeoniae Radix Alba, stir-fried), Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma), Shanzhi (Gardeniae Fructus, stir-fried until black), Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma, steamed with wine). Decoct with Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens) and Congbai (Allii Fistulosii Bulbus). If spontaneous diarrhea occurs...

Fangfeng, Jingjie, Bohe, and Mahuang have light and floating properties to release the exterior, allowing Wind-Cold to exit via sweat and disperse from the upper jiao. Dahuang and Mangxiao break stagnation and unblock the bowels; Zhizi and Huashi... (Text missing here, likely discussing clearing heat and promoting diuresis, harmonizing the Stomach).

Moderate and harsh treatments... combined therapy... (Text missing here, likely discussing the principle of simultaneous treatment of exterior and interior or tonification and purging).

Remove Dahuang and Mangxiao, named Shuangjie San (Double Resolution Powder). (Mahuang, Fangfeng, Jingjie, Bohe, Chuanxiong to resolve the exterior; Huangqin, Zhizi, Lianqiao, Shigao, Huashi to resolve the interior.) Further add Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma) to tonify Qi, Shudi (Rehmanniae Radix Preparata) to nourish Blood, Huangbai (Phellodendri Cortex) and Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma) to clear heat, Qianghuo (Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix), Duhuo (Angelicae Pubescentis Radix), Tianma (Gastrodiae Rhizoma), Xixin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma), Quanxie (Scorpio) to dispel Wind. Make into honey pills, size of a bullet. Each...
