(Zhang Zhongjing) The treated syndrome is the same as mentioned above.
Take one pig gallbladder, extract the juice, and add a small amount of vinegar. Use a bamboo tube three or four cun long; insert half of it into the anus, and instill the bile juice. Bowel movement should occur shortly thereafter.
(If constipation is accompanied by signs of yin-cold, ginger juice and powder of raw Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Preparata) should be added into the anus, or aged pickled ginger can be carved and used as a suppository. This supplements the incompleteness in the works of Changsha [Zhang Zhongjing].)
At the end of the Song Dynasty, Xiong Yancheng, a physician from Raozhou, aged fifty-five, suffered from obstruction of both urination and defecation for five days, with his abdomen distended like a drum. His peers looked on helplessly, unable to apply any treatment.
(The following text contains fragmented characters "wai gao shi yi cun san ren, bu jian yi luo bian" which are unintelligible and omitted.)
In cases of Shanghan (Cold Damage) presenting with Jie Xiong (Chest Binding), if the Middle Qi is deficient and cannot withstand purgative or resolving treatments, this external application method must be used. Then, the stagnation will move and the pathogenic factor will dissipate.
Scallion White (Si Liang / 4 liang) Fresh Ginger (Si Liang / 4 liang) Raw Radish (This ingredient should be doubled; if unavailable, Radish Seed may substitute.) These three ingredients are crushed together, stir-fried... (The text "wu bu shi shi" appears to be an interpolation or error and is omitted).
Another method: Take ten to twenty garlic bulbs, crush them into a paste, spread it thickly on heavy paper or thin silk, and apply it to the distended area. It will dissipate shortly. This treats all types of abdominal distension without fail. (The character "wu" at the end suggests missing text).
When bowel obstruction occurs due to excess accumulation in the anal region preventing passage, boil a pot of Bamboo Leaf over high fire. Pour the boiling liquid into a clean bucket, and sprinkle Tiao Fan (Alum) powder on top... (Text is incomplete here).
Using Radish Greens, following the above method, is also excellent. If Radish Greens are unavailable, Green Vegetables (Qing Cai) can be used.
("Xiao" refers to dispersing accumulation. "Dao" refers to promoting the flow of Qi. When Spleen deficiency leads to poor transportation, Qi fails to circulate. When Qi fails to circulate, it stagnates and forms accumulation.
Therefore... (Text is incomplete here).
(Li Jieggu) Resolves epigastric fullness, eliminates phlegm, strengthens the Spleen, and promotes appetite.
Baizhu (Bupleuri Radix / Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma) (Two Liang, steamed in soil) Zhishi (Immature Bitter Orange / Aurantii Fructus Immaturus) (One Liang, stir-fried with bran) Grind into powder. Wrap in Lotus Leaf with leftover rice, and bake until dry to form pills. Add Chenpi (Tangerine Peel / Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium) for fullness; add [missing ingredient] for Qi stagnation.
Li Dongyuan stated: Baizhu is sweet and warm, tonifying the Yuan Qi of the Spleen and Stomach. Its bitter taste clears damp-heat in the Stomach and benefits blood in the waist and umbilical region. Its efficacy surpasses that of Zhishi, which is a drug that attacks and transforms stagnation... [Fragmented text "zhong kong gan ci yi fu yu zhi yi" omitted] ...It possesses the power to push down walls and overturn battlements. This is actually a formula that combines attack and defense. It is indicated when Spleen Qi is unclear and stagnation prevails. However, if Spleen Qi is already deficient, it is not suitable. People today do not examine this carefully, mistakenly believing it to be a Spleen-tonifying medicine, resulting in morning ingestion and evening vomiting. Some, because children are emaciated, order them to take it regularly, which sufficiently damages their Qi and exacerbates their emaciation. Dosage and usage must be carefully considered.)
Jinkui Yaolue uses seven Zhi Shi fruits and two Liang of Baizhu, decocted as a soup, named Zhiji Zhu Tang (Immature Bitter Orange and Atractylodes Decoction). It treats water-fluid retention under the heart, presenting as hardness and enlargement like a plate, with edges like a rotating disk. ("Under the heart" refers to the epigastrium...) [Fragmented text "zhe shu wan shi xiang" omitted].
Gan Jiang (Dried Ginger / Zingiberis Rhizoma) Seven Qian, named Xiaoyin Wan (Drinking-Dissipating Pill), treats chest fullness and retching caused by retained fluids. Add Jiu Chao Huanglian (Wine-processed Coptidis Rhizoma), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix), Dahuang (Rhubarb Root / Rheomi Radix et Rhizoma), Chao Shenqu (Stir-fried Massa Medicata Fermentata), and Hongchen Pi (Orange Peel / Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium), each One Liang. This is named Sanhuang Zhiji Wan (Three-Yellow Immature Bitter Orange Pill), treating discomfort and fullness caused by consuming meat, damp noodles, and spicy, rich foods. Add Shenqu and Maiya (Barley Sprout / Hordei Fructus Germinatus), each One Liang. This is also named Sanhuang Zhiji Wan (note: original text repeats name), treating internal injury from diet or diarrhea.
