[Tongyu Decoction] Treats women with Qi stagnation and blood accumulation, resulting in unfavorable menstruation. It addresses severe pain that refuses pressure, postpartum real pain caused by blood stasis, as well as various syndromes of blood rebellion and blood knotting in both men and women.
(Usage: Hawthorn Fructus [Shanzha] 15-20g) Hawthorn Fructus (Shanzha), Cyperi Rhizoma (Xiangfu), Carthamus Flos (Honghua - use fresh ones stir-fried until yellow, 6g), Aucklandiae Radix (Muxiang - 2g), Linderae Radix (Wuyao) 3-6g, Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium (Qingpi), Alismatis Rhizoma (Zexie) 5g. Decoct in water. Add 1-2 small cups of wine. For cases complicated by cold stagnation, add Cinnamomi Cortex (Rougui) 3g, or Evodiae Fructus (Wuzhuyu) 1.5g. For cases with excessive fire, internal heat, and dry blood causing obstruction, add Gardeniae Fructus (Zhizi) stir-fried 3-6g. For cases with slight heat and blood deficiency, add Paeoniae Radix Alba (Shaoyao) 6g. For blood deficiency causing astringency and stagnation, add Achyranthis Bidentatae Radix (Niuxi). For blood stasis causing obstruction, add Persicae Semen (Taoren) 20 grains. (Remove skin and tips.) Alternatively, add Sappan Lignum (Sumu) or Corydalis Rhizoma (Yanhusuo). For extreme blood stasis accompanied by dry and hard stool, add Rheii Radix et Rhizoma (Dahuang) 3-9g, or Natrii Sulfas (Piaoxiao) and Curcumae Zedoariae Rhizoma (Pengzhu) are also acceptable.
(Zhu Danxi) Treats delayed menstruation where the blood is purple-black and forms clots. (Purple indicates blood heat. Black indicates severe heat. Delayed onset with clot formation suggests Qi stagnation or invasion of wind-cold. If pale white, it indicates deficiency, or mixing with phlegm-fluid retention. Turbid and muddy like smoke dust, bean juice, or roof leak water indicates damp-phlegm.)
Siwu Tang (See Blood Section) added with Cyperi Rhizoma (Xiangfu) and Scutellariae Radix (Huanglian). (Siwu Tang nourishes Yin and benefits blood; Huanglian clears blood heat; Xiangfu moves Qi and resolves depression.)
Siwu Tang plus Huangqin and Baizhu Decoction. (Also known as Wenliuhe Pill.) Treats menorrhagia. (Scutellariae Radix suppresses Yang heat. Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma tonifies Spleen Qi. The Spleen controls blood.)
Siwu Tang plus Huangqin and Huanglian Decoction. Treats amenorrhea just after cessation, with five-palm heat, dark menstrual blood, or blood resembling bean juice. (Resembling bean juice indicates heat combined with dampness.)
Treats obstructed meridians, rebellious and unregulated Qi, characterized by frequent pain and excess syndromes.
Angelicae Sinensis Radix (Danggui) 15-20g, Achyranthis Bidentatae Radix (Niuxi), Hawthorn Fructus (Shanzha) 6g, Cyperi Rhizoma (Xiangfu), Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium (Qingpi), Poria (Fuling) 5g. If due to failure to avoid raw and cold foods leading to cold stagnation... [Text incomplete] ...medicine 3g. Or...
(Xue Ji, *Ganzhu Ji*) Treats all kinds of Qi disorders. Qi rushing up to the heart and chest, pounding sensations in the chest and hypochondrium, stabbing pain in the ribs, and irregular menstruation. (Women often suffer from Qi disorders due to worry and overthinking. Qi is the commander of blood; when Qi stagnates, blood cannot flow smoothly, hence irregular menstruation.)
Cyperi Rhizoma (Xiangfu) 24g, Linderae Radix (Wuyao) 6g, Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium (Chenpi), Perillae Folium (Suye) 3g, Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens (Ganjiang) 1.5g. Decoct 15-20g per dose.
Linderae Radix and Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium specifically enter the Qi level to regulate Qi. Cyperi Rhizoma and Perillae Folium can enter the Blood level to move Qi. Using Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens as a guiding herb allows the medicine to enter the Qi level and simultaneously the Blood level.
