This is caused by irregular diet, which damages the Spleen and Stomach, leading to the depletion of Yuan Qi (Original Qi). Symptoms include dizziness and weak legs, fatigue in the four limbs, fullness and oppression below the heart, and afternoon fever. This occurs because Yuan Qi sinks into the Yin aspect. Taking Quanzhen Dan (Complete True Pill) and Bidengqie San (Picrasma Fructus Powder) can lead to recovery within three months. If cooling herbs that nourish Yin and descend Fire are taken, the condition will worsen. If quacks use purgatives, the condition becomes critical with deep and fine pulses throughout all six positions. At this point, moxibustion at Zhongwan (CV12) for 50 moxa cones and Guanyuan (CV4) for 100 moxa cones can preserve life; delay leads to the collapse of Spleen Qi and death. (Quacks, not understanding this syndrome, have unknowingly killed countless people, especially children. Afternoon fever is often misdiagnosed as Yin deficiency rather than tidal fever; epigastric fullness is attributed to retained phlegm rather than food stagnation. They indiscriminately use cold-natured herbs and aggressively employ draining methods, causing adults to suffer from deficiency collapse and children to develop Spleen Wind. Yet they claim wind-heat is hard to clear and phlegm-heat is harmful. Only when death is imminent do doctors admit exhaustion of effort and families accept fate, dying without realization, which is truly pitiable.)
Irregular diet or cold substances injuring the Spleen may result in the Stomach receiving food but the Spleen failing to transform and transport it, causing vomiting. Ersheng San (Two Sage Powder), Caoshen Dan (Grass Spirit Pill), or Jin Ye Dan (Golden Fluid Pill) are appropriate. If the injury is severe, compounded by damage from desires and emotions, fluids accumulate in the Middle Jiao, causing morning intake to be vomited in the evening, known as Fan Wei (Reverse Stomach/Regurgitation). This is due to extreme Spleen Qi deficiency and failure of healthy transformation. Delayed treatment harms the patient. Using attacking and draining methods severely injures Yuan Qi and causes immediate death. One must perform 200 moxa cones on Zuomingguan (Left Life Gate, likely referring to a specific external point or variant of Pishu/Baimen area in Song dynasty context, often associated with Spleen regulation) and take Caoshen Dan for recovery; other medications will fail. (For vomiting, one must first examine the cause. Mild cases can be resolved with one dose of Erchen Tang (Two Aged Herbs Decoction), Pingwei San (Stomach-Pacifying Powder), or Huoxiang Zhengqi San (Agastache Powder Regulating the Qi). Deficiency cases respond easily to Liujunzi Tang (Six Gentlemen Decoction) or Lizhong Tang (Regulate the Middle Decoction). Severe cases involve sudden violent vomiting, cold extremities, and sweating; slight negligence leads to restlessness, collapse, and death, so this must be known. Although Fan Wei is a chronic condition, treatment is difficult. It requires careful medical attention and strict patient self-care. Treatment with pills and moxibustion offers the best chance of survival; otherwise, few survive.)
