If the Zang-Fu organs are weak, or if one consumes sweet and fatty foods, it will cause roundworms to move. Once the roundworms move, abdominal pain occurs, with masses that gather and disperse intermittently, moving up and down, with unceasing pain. If the worms attack upward to the heart causing heart pain, and the mouth frequently spits saliva and clear fluid, death ensues if the worms penetrate the heart. In cases of abdominal pain, the pulse should typically be deep, weak, and wiry. Now, if it is instead surging and large, this indicates roundworm disease. Zhang Zhongjing used Wumei Wan (Mume Pill) to treat it. Various anti-worm medications can be used for treatment, with Shijunzi (Quisqualis Fructus) being particularly effective. For roundworms clustering together, Wu Zhu Yu Gen (Evodiae Radix) is especially superior.
An eighteen-year-old person, who had a slightly yellow complexion since childhood, suffered from severe abdominal pain in May. The physician first prescribed Xiao Jianzhong Tang (Minor Construct the Middle Decoction) with added Dingxiang (Caryophylli Flos), taken for two doses, but without effect; vomiting of clear juice ensued. Then, Shiba Wei Dingxiang Touge Tang (Eighteen-Ingredient Clove Penetrating Diaphragm Decoction) was given for two doses; food intake ceased completely, and the pain did not cease, lasting thus for five or six days. Subsequently, Awei Wan (Ferula Pill) was administered, over a hundred pills; at night, fever developed and sleep was impossible, yet there was no thirst. The pulse on the left side, both positions, was deep, wiry, rapid, and excess, and the painful area could not be pressed. Therefore, Daxiehu Tang (Major Bupleurum Decoction) with added Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radia et Rhizoma) was given for four doses to purge downward. Although pain and vomiting decreased, food intake remained absent. Then, Xiaochaihu Tang (Minor Bupleurum Decoction) was prescribed, removing Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix) and Renshen (Ginseng Radix), adding Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix), Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium), Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma), and raw Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radia et Rhizoma). After twenty doses, the patient recovered.
A seventeen-year-old person, poor and overworked, fell ill in November with aversion to cold and hematemesis for two or three days. The six pulses were tight and choppy. One month later, appetite decreased and epigastric fullness occurred. The physician administered Wendan Tang (Warm Gallbladder Decoction) and Zhike Tang (Citri Reticulatae Fructus Decoction). Three days later, fever developed, dry mouth without desire to drink, and phlegm in the mouth appeared. I said: This is due to contracting cold. Upon inquiry, it was found that eight days prior, the patient had crossed water in frost three or four times, had experienced sorrowful weeping in the heart, and the abdomen was hungry. Thus, Xiao Jianzhong Tang (Minor Construct the Middle Decoction) with Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix) removed, and Jiegeng (Platycodonis Radix), Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium), and Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma) added, was given for four doses, resulting in recovery.
This refers to Danliu (Dan Tumor) mentioned in the *Neijing* (*Inner Canon*), named so because it flows and moves like cinnabar. What ancient formulas call Chiyouzhong (Red Roaming Swelling) arises because the muscles are deficient, allowing wind-toxic heat qi to invade and contend with blood and qi, causing the skin and flesh to become red and swollen. The wind follows the movement of qi and is不定 (uncertain), hence the name. Chiyouzhong is commonly called Liū (Tumor) by laypeople. It originates from wind-heat triggering Dan (cinnabar-like eruption), which flows through meridians and spreads on the body surface, appearing red like cinnabar and burning like fire. If the whole body erupts in redness, it belongs to categories such as Tianhuodan (Heaven Fire Cinnabar), with over thirty entries. The treatment method involves using Bianlian (stone lancet) according to the location to drain toxic qi; otherwise, Dan toxin enters the abdomen, and if near the heart, it causes death. However, if heart pain is present at the initial onset, Bianlian must not be used! For medication, internal drinking and external application each have their formulas, generally aiming to dissipate wind-heat, harmonize Qi, invigorate blood, and cool the muscle tissue. The *Yuanbing Shi* (*Original Treatise on Disease Causes*) also states: Chi liu (Red Flow) is heat overcoming Qi; red is the color of Fire, governed by Xianghuo (Ministerial Fire). Youzhong (Roaming Swelling) and Chi liu (Red Flow) are the same thing.
