Also treats long-standing malignant sores where other medicines have failed. Transmitted by Zhang Youwen, County Magistrate (courtesy name Shouyue). Take pig manure in any quantity, place it on a new tile, and burn it in the fire until it turns bright red. Remove it and place it inside a bottle or jar to seal and calcine into charcoal, preserving its medicinal properties. Grind into a fine powder. For each use, take five qian of this powder, add two and a half qian of finely ground *Barnshells* (*Longgu*, fossil bone), two and a half qian of *Calomel* (*Qingfen*, mercurous chloride), and one qian of *Areca Seed* (*Binglang*) powder. Mix thoroughly. First, rinse the sore with pickled vegetable water held in the mouth or warm salt water, cleaning the wound until healthy flesh is visible. Then, mix the medicine with pure sesame oil and apply according to the size of the sore. If not healed, reapply. It will stabilize and heal within three to five days. When Shouyue’s uncle, Zhongji, served as the magistrate of Guiping County, he obtained this prescription from a prisoner.
*Binglang* (Areca Seed) (half liang), *Longgu* (Fossil Bone) (one fen), *Shuiyin Fen* (Mercury Powder/Calomel) (a small amount), *Gan Zhu Fen* (Dry Pig Manure) (half liang, calcined to preserve nature).
Grind the above three ingredients into a fine powder. Add *Shuiyin Fen* and grind evenly. First wash the sore with salt water, dry with cooked silk cloth, mix the medicine with raw sesame oil to form a paste, and apply to the sore.
Some versions record a prescription very similar to this one.
Inspector Shi Jian cites the prescription of Zhong Hua.
Apply *Huashi* (Talcum Powder) externally.
*Hezi* (Chebula Fruit) (calcined to preserve nature, apply the ash).
This prescription was transmitted by Hu Shangshe Ming Geng; his family has used it successfully on multiple occasions.
*Xuan Huanglian* (Sichuan Coptis Rhizome) (ground fine), *Mituo Seng* (Litharge/Garlic Lead Oxide) (ground separately).
Mix equal parts of the above two ingredients. Before each use, first wash the sore with decoction of scallion and salt, then apply the medicine. If the sore is dry, mix with a little clear sesame oil for application; this is particularly effective for treating sores!
Another prescription: *Mituo Seng* (Litharge), *Huangdan* (Red Lead).
Grind equal parts finely and apply.
Transmitted by Zhu Zixuan, Tigan (Official Title).
*Wubeizi* (Chinese Gallnut) (finely ground and dusted on the lesion).
Qian Jizhi, Judicial Officer, suffered from sores on his body. Initially like millet grains, they gradually enlarged to bean size. Unremitting scratching led to large sores. Multiple treatments failed. Later, he obtained this prescription: boil *Shiliu Pi* (Pomegranate Peel) to extract a concentrated juice, let it cool, and apply to the sore. It feels cold as ice, immediately forms a scab, and heals. It is said to be from Wang Xuan...
*Gan Yanzhi* (Dried Carmine/Cochineal), *Qingfen* (Calomel) (a small amount).
Grind the above two ingredients extremely fine. First wash the sore with warm water, dry with a piece of silk, and apply. For deep sores, fill them completely until level. Continue until healed.
Another prescription, provided by Pan Zhongshi, Censor.
Take *Xuejie* (Dragon's Blood) alone, grind into fine powder, and dust onto the sore until dry.
Another prescription: *Digupi* (Root Bark of Ground Cherry Tree). Remove the coarse bark, scrape off the powder using a bamboo knife, bake dry, grind into fine powder, and apply.
Another prescription: Crush old *Zhuche Wan* (Stop-Running Pill from previous year) into powder and apply; this is excellent. If unavailable, newly made pills may also be used.
Another prescription: Zhan Wuzi suffered from this condition at age thirty. Using this prescription brought immediate relief, and it proved effective repeatedly later!
*Huangbai* (Phellodendron Bark), *Baiji* (Bletilla Rhizome), *Bailian* (Ampelopsis Rhizome), *Huangdan* (Red Lead) (ground separately).
Take equal parts of the above, grind into an extremely fine powder, mix with *Huangdan*, and add an appropriate amount of *Qingfen*. Mix with honey to a slightly thin consistency, shape into cakes, and apply to the sore. Fill deep sores completely, wrap with silk strips, change once daily. As the sore dries or cracks, simply dust with dry powder. Continue until healed.
Another prescription: Qian Wenzi claims frequent efficacy.
Take sheep dung that does not stick together, calcine to ash preserving nature, grind into powder, and apply. Adding *Qingfen* is even better.
Another prescription: Use mud from the bottom of wine jars and black soil from fields as the best material; mountain soil should not be used. Burn over fire until bright red, cool down, remove "fire toxicity," grind extremely fine. Mix with sesame oil to form a paste. Cut two pieces of leaves used to wrap wine jars to match the sore size. Spread the medicine on the back of one leaf piece, cover with the second piece, place the shiny side up on the sore, and bind securely with silk. Ensure the medicine does not touch healthy skin to avoid damaging it. This serves as the base for dressing. Feng Anshi reported Chen Zhongshan saying: There is no need to burn; simply dry-grind fine, store in a bottle, and use as described above; this is also excellent. He often treated several people with this method.
Another prescription: In the household of Chen Zhongshan, Tingcheng (Official Title), there is an old woman over ninety years old who uses this medicine to treat others with universal success, according to Zhonggu.
Old straw sandals from the left foot are named "Thousand-Li Horse." Do not touch with hands; use a stick to retrieve them. Wash thoroughly by beating in water, sun-dry, burn to black ash, grind fine. Add a little *Qingfen*. First wash the sore with salt brine, dry, then apply. For dry sores, mix with raw oil; for wet sores, apply dry powder to form a scab. Very effective!
Gu Yi (Doctor Gu), named Yu, said: On Dragon Boat Festival day, hold the old straw sandal from the left foot with the left hand and burn it for use. It also treats soft carbuncles. His son personally verified its efficacy!
