Prescription submitted by Fan Luo, Magistrate of Jinzhou.
Gentianae Radix et Rhizoma (Qin Jiao) (remove rhizome base), Cinnamomi Cortex (Gui Xin), Eucommiae Cortex (Du Zhong) (remove coarse bark, stir-fry until fibers break), Saposhnikoviae Radix (Fang Feng), Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex (Nong Pu) (remove coarse bark, each 3 fen), Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata (Fu Zi) (remove skin and umbilicus, half liang), Ginseng Radix (Renshen) (remove rhizome base, half liang). [Note: The original text mentions "fourteen flavors" but lists fewer explicitly here; translation follows visible text.]
All fourteen ingredients are used raw. They must be weighed and carefully selected, then ground together into a fine powder. Form pills with refined honey, sized like Sophora japonica seeds. Take 30 pills per dose, before meals on an empty stomach, with warm water.
Treats women suffering from restlessness of the heart-mind, insomnia, and abnormal speech due to excessive bleeding. This is a prescription from the Teng Shengse family, which is highly effective.
Cinnabar (Chen Sha), Ziziphi Spinosae Semen (Suan Zao Ren), Ginseng Radix (Renshen), Poria Cum Radix Xylom (Fushen) (remove wood), Succinum (Hupo) (each 1 fen), Olibanum (Ding Ru Xiang) (1 qian, separately ground).
Grind all into a fine powder and mix evenly. Take 1 qian per dose, mixed with a strong decoction of Juncus effusus (Deng Xin Cao) and Ziziphus jujuba (Zao).
Also suitable for women who are qi-deficient after blood loss or suffer from emaciation and weakness postpartum.
Prepared Rehmanniae Radix (Shu Di Huang), Raw Rehmanniae Radix (Sheng Di Huang), Angelicae Sinensis Radix (Chuan Dang Gui), Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma (Chuan Xiong), Paeoniae Radix Alba (Bai Shao Yao), Ginseng Radix (Renshen) (each 1 liang).
Grind all into a fine powder. Add natural juice of fresh lotus root, natural juice of fresh ginger, and honey (one cup of each). Boil together briefly until fragrant and cooked. Mix with the herbal powder to form a paste. Store in a clay vessel. Take one spoonful per dose, dissolved in a decoction of Juncus effusus (Deng Xin Cao) and Ziziphus jujuba (Zao).
For those in their prime whose vital qi is still weak, this is due to innate constitutional deficiency, not senile decline. Drying and heating herbs should be strictly avoided. Do not assume that cold limbs indicate excess yin; treating thus will not cure the disease but may cause serious illness to arise. While there are many tonifying prescriptions, their effects may be slow to manifest. By consolidating primordial qi, allowing kidney water to ascend and heart fire to descend, the five zang organs will harmonize naturally, and hundred diseases will vanish. This prescription governs such conditions. According to Sun's prescription from Xingzai, Chancellor Ge found it effective when taken by women in their youth!
Deer Antler Glue (Lu Rong Su) (roasted, remove hair and skin), Corni Fructus (Shan Zhu Yu) (fresh, high quality, fleshy, reddish-brown), Angelicae Sinensis Radix (Chuan Dang Gui) (wash to remove soil, each 4 liang), Moschus (She Xiang) (half liang, separately ground).
Grind the first three ingredients into powder, mix with Moschus. Decoct in wine, use wheat starch paste to form pills, sized like Sophora japonica seeds. Take 50-100 pills per dose, with warm wine or salted water.
