Wu Neihan's Prescription.
Use five leaves of *Lamu Teng* (likely referring to a specific vine, possibly *Cissus quadrangularis* or similar local herb), chew them with salt, and apply the paste to the affected area. Shen Rui, a physician from Jiang, and Marshal Lü once questioned this method, but it is as miraculous as treating centipede stings. Qian Wenzi also used this method.
Another prescription: Apply raw Long Nao (Borneol) to the affected area; Shen Rui said it was very wonderful!
For cases where the whole body is ulcerated, and the patient cries out in pain almost to death: Boil Qin Pi (Phellodendri Cortex) to make about one dou (approx. 10 liters) of decoction, drink it freely. Symptoms will halve on the first day, and recovery will occur completely within two to three days.
What kind of snake is this? Some say it is the yellow-flowered spider found in grass. When a person is bitten by its venom and then moistened by dew, this disease arises. Shen Cunzhong recorded this in great detail.
To treat all kinds of poisonous insects biting humans, resulting in unrecognizable sores where medical treatment has failed (also recorded in *Qianjin Fang*).
Xiong Huang (Realgar), Sha (Sand/Mineral), Bai Fan (Alum), Tu Feng Ke (Earth Beehive), Lu Feng Fang (Honeycomb).
Take equal parts of the above five ingredients, grind them into fine powder, add a small amount of She Xiang (Musk), and grind together until uniform. Mix with vinegar to form a paste and apply to the sore. For wounds that are difficult to identify, rapid treatment is especially advisable; within three to five days, there is truly a miraculous effect. Prepare this on the Double Fifth Day (Duanwu Festival).
Take seven apricot kernels, make a small hole in each, remove the kernel inside, fill it with real Xiong Huang (Realgar) powder, seal it with beeswax, and place them together in a clay box. The box mouth must be firmly sealed, and buried under a quiet eave facing north. After forty-nine days (7x7), take it out. When needed, open one kernel, mix the Xiong Huang powder with saliva, and apply it to the bite site. Within a short time, the toxic qi will turn into yellow water and dissipate.
Quickly take a toad, crush it thoroughly, and apply it to the painful area for excellent results. Then wrap the medicine gently with silk cloth, and apply Tou Gou (Scalp Scurf/Dandruff) to the injured area.
Find a small bamboo stick or wooden peg on the ground oriented exactly North-South. Hold it and draw a cross on the ground, first from South to North, then from East to West. Then dig a pinch of soil from the center of the cross and apply it to the painful area; the pain stops immediately. I have used this many times and find it inexplicable; sincerity is required for it to work.
Another prescription: Scrape juice from fresh Yu Tou (Taro Rhizome) and apply it to the affected area. Shen Cunzhong once used this, as recorded in *Bi Tan*.
*Youyang Zazu*.
Boil Sang Chai Hui Zhi (Ash Juice from Mulberry Wood Fire) three times, take the juice, mix with Bai Fan (Alum) powder to make a paste, apply to the sore, and it will heal. It also treats snake venom.
