Sun Simiao stated: After moxibustion at this acupoint, the body's Yang Qi (vital energy) will become robust. One should regulate diet and lifestyle to nourish oneself, aiming for physical equilibrium. The method of nourishment involves consuming warm, soft soups and rice, avoiding overeating, and refraining from raw, cold, greasy, sticky, or slippery foods such as chicken, pork, fish, shrimp, bamboo shoots, and bracken fern, as well as other foods that may stir Qi or induce wind pathogens. One must also avoid exposure to Wind-Cold, Summerheat, and Dampness. Do not engage in sexual activity merely because Yang Qi temporarily surges. If one feels Qi stagnation, moxibustion can be applied to any one of the four acupoints below the umbilicus: Qihai (Sea of Qi), Dantian (Elixir Field), Guanyuan (Gate of Origin), and Zhongji (Central Pole). Additionally, Zusanli (Leg Three Miles) should be moxibusted to guide Fire Qi downward to fortify the lower body. Depending on the depth of the disease, with time and proper recuperation, recovery can naturally be maintained. Otherwise, it is like relying on a single piece of wood to prop up a collapsing mansion; ultimately, one may perish like Duke Jing of Jin, which is not the fault of moxibustion.
I experienced the chaos of the Jin army invasion in Xuchang, enduring hardship and danger while exposed to cold and heat, fleeing eastward. In the eighth month of the Dingwei year, upon arriving at Sibin, I contracted Malaria (Nue). After reaching Qin Chuan, improper medical treatment depleted my Ying and Wei (Nutritive and Defensive) Qi. By late spring of the following year, I still suffered from edema, abdominal distension, shortness of breath, anorexia, profuse diarrhea, heavy limbs, and lower limb flaccidity requiring a cane to walk. Later, I received the Gao Huang (Bladder俞/Gao Huang) moxibustion prescription from the family tradition of Chen Leweng. From the Dinghai year to the Qisi year, I accumulated 300 moxa cones. The day after moxibustion, my chest Qi became smooth, swelling subsided, diarrhea ceased, and appetite returned. By the Jiawu year, I could travel by sedan chair to visit relatives and friends. Subsequently, another 100 cones were applied. From then on, symptoms gradually diminished until full health was restored. Relatives and friends witnessing this remarkable effect underwent moxibustion together, curing their chronic ailments. Sun Simiao said: "If one diligently seeks the correct acupoints and applies moxibustion, no disease is incurable." This is indeed true. Therefore, I examined discrepancies among medical classics, consulted various schools of thought, and incorporated personal trials. Measuring cun distances and summarizing nourishing methods, I divided them into ten chapters to facilitate understanding and prevent unjust suffering, thereby spreading Sun Simiao's benevolence in seeking acupoints to save others throughout the world. Recorded by Zhuang Chuo on the twelfth day of the second month of the Jianyan era, second year.
