Treating Kidney Deficiency with Long-standing Cold in the Water Organ (from *Zisheng Jing*). Acupoint: Shenshu (BL23, Kidney Shu).
Treating Xiao Ke (Wasting and Thirsting Syndrome) caused by Kidney Deficiency. Acupoints: Zhonglv (BL27, Middle Spine), Shenshu (BL23, Kidney Shu).
Regulating Kidney Qi. Acupoint: Yangqiao (likely referring to a point on the Yang Qiao Mai vessel, though specific point name is not explicitly stated as a standard acupoint code here, context implies stimulation of the vessel or related point).
Treating insufficiency of Small Intestine Qi, manifested as lackluster complexion. Acupoint: Xialian (ST39, Lower Ridge).
Treating Small Intestine Qi disorder. When Pi Qi (abdominal mass/pain syndrome) attacks, abdominal pain is severe like knife stabbing, unbearable, and also for women’s internal organ Qi and Blood stagnation moving around causing stabbing pain, or inability to sit or lie down comfortably, or obstruction of urination and defecation, and loss of appetite (another version states it treats Han Shan/Cold Hernia, where Small Intestine Qi attack radiates to the external kidneys [scrotum/testes] with severe pain, swelling, and hardness like stone). Moxibustion should be applied at the crease of the first joint of the second toe on both left and right feet, ten moxa cones (zhuang), with moxa cone size similar to a red bean. This is highly effective.
*Zisheng Jing* states that there are many prescriptions for treating Small Intestine Qi disorders, but not all are effective. Cheng Fang’s Duoming San (Life-Extending Powder) and Liang Fang’s Cangcu San (Hasty Powder) have been tested and proven effective. A soldier once suffered from Small Intestine Qi; according to this prescription, he received five moxa cones below the second toe, which provided slight relief, but the condition recurred. It is likely that the number of moxa cones was insufficient. I once administered ten pills of Zhenling Dan (Spirit-Calming Pill) to him, instructing him to take five pills morning and evening, after which he recovered. Moxibustion is indeed superior to herbs, but if the acupoints are not selected accurately, its speed of effect is inferior to appropriate herbal medicine. Combining moxibustion and herbal medicine is the most appropriate approach. Recently, a prescription called Yili Sheng San (One-Pill Holy Powder) has circulated, using seven dried whole Scorpion (Scorpio, Quanxie), fourteen Amomum fruit (Cardamom, Suanshen), and one qian of stir-fried Fennel seed (Xianghui), ground into powder. Divide into three doses. Mix with hot wine and swallow, including the dregs, on an empty stomach. This disease arises from heat accumulating in the Small Intestine, failing to dissipate, and forming pathology over time. Taking this prescription yields immediate results. Although I have not personally tested it, I find the theory reasonable, so I append it here. A young scholar sought moxibustion treatment for nocturnal emission. I treated him by moxibusting Shenshu (BL23, Kidney Shu), and he recovered. This indicates that regardless of age, the Kidneys are prone to deficiency. The ancients said, "All diseases arise from the Heart," and also, "All diseases arise from the Kidney." Heart labor causes all diseases, which everyone knows. However, Kidney deficiency also causes all diseases, which few people know. Heaven generates Water with One, Earth generates Fire with Two. If Kidney Water does not ascend, Heart Fire cannot descend. This is the origin of such diseases. People must nourish the Heart and protect the Kidneys.
