[Diagram of the Ding Chou Year's Climate and Qi]

Taiyin Damp-Soil governs the Heaven (upper half of the year), Taiyang Cold-Water governs the Earth (lower half of the year), and the middle reveals Shaoyue Wood movement. The Wood Qi of the year is insufficient, causing the Qi transformation and operational movement to lag behind the seasonal timing. This is the era of Weihe (the period of deficient Wood).

Regarding "Above":
The Qi of Heaven and Earth: Above manifests as Taiyin Damp-Soil. The left intercalary Qi is Shaoyang Minister-Fire, and the right intercalary Qi is Shaoyin Sovereign-Fire. Therefore, the Earth Qi ascends, and its administration is solemn/restrictive. Below manifests as Taiyang Cold-Water. The left intercalary Qi is Jueyin Wind-Wood.

Heavenly administration spreads, Dampness descends, Earth Qi ascends, rain falls at proper times, and Cold follows. Contracting Cold-Dampness causes the people to suffer from heavy body and edema, fullness in the chest and abdomen. It is appropriate to treat the Taiyin Guest Qi, using Sweet flavor to tonify, Bitter flavor to drain, and Sweet flavor to relax. Annual grains should be... causing harm.
